Picture is closing in from sides

Picture is not clear, fuzzy, colors are brighter than normal with shades of red more prominent throughout picture, and it is closing in from the sides to the middle of the screen. It will turn on and off. The remote still works fine and the channel selector works.

    Should I replace the

The picture is closing in from the right and left sides. What can I do about the horizontal side, the vertical is fine.

I cannot adjust the convergence on this set because it is digital and not manual.

    The model is 46UX25K.

Should I replace the horizonal output transistor?

    Thanks for any help.

I don't know any part numbers.
My user manual doesn't list any of those.

Do you sell a service manual for this model?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your described problem could indicate a pincushion or a convergence problem; both of which are hardware related. They further indicate that some components have failed or about to fail.

This of course would require opening the unit, perform voltage measurements, determine faulty component and subsequent part(s) replacement. Further, a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would be required. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Closing in from the sides is the hour glass effect, it is a pincushion problem. Although that it would seem to be a horizontal issue, it is likely that the convergence circuitry is at fault and loading the horizontal secondary.

If the horizontal output transistor is defective, there would be no High Voltage and therefore no picture.

It Sounds mostly like a convergence problem.
First try using your set's user convergence mode.

Also chance of bad solder on red driver transistor on red picture tube.

I own a 3 year old Panasonic TH-50px77u. The picture has changed and no longer shows and red color in the picture. This seemed to change when I plugged in an XBOX video game 3 night s ago.

If I understand this correctly, since you connected one of the HDMI inputs to an X-box, you do not see any red in any picture from any source, not even the SD Photo display input. White areas in the picture are cyan colored; other areas are various shades of blue-green. Red areas are black. This is the worst case; it is not clear from your description whether this is what you see or if the red areas are just not red enough.

Try going to the Picture menu and changing Picture Mode to "Normal", and Normal to "set". Turn Color mgmt. off. Refer to pages 26-27 of your owner's manual (download here). If this doesn't help, try selecting different Color temp settings. Make a note of which combinations of settings are giving you good results and which are giving you poor results.

If you cannot get close to factory default color, download the service manual and post back so we can take a look at the numbers in the video processor's EEPROM (data memory). We can continue diagnostics from that point if necessary. You may want to compare the EEPROM numbers for the settings that give bad results with the nominal values given in the service manual - if one of the numbers for red is way off, that could be the problem. Please post back before trying to change any numbers in the EEPROM - we don't want to make a bigger mess, and it would be a good idea to figure out what is going on first.

I've had this problem with my projection TV recently. I would say your lens/lamp is to blame. It might be time to change it, depends on the last time it was changed, most of the time, the TV will tell you that it needs to be changed, but not always. I think your best bet is the TV lamp.

Just purchased tv and the quality of the picture is still fuzzy tried to mess around with the resolution but it still isnt very sharp at all

Hi,
The TVs produce picture using entirely different methods. Usually the colors and especially level of black color are better on plasma, LCD will have some trouble various shades of gray and black especially shading on peoples faces etc.. This is not a defect in the LCD just a limitation in current technology.

Screen is all Shades of Red....

You need to remove the front tv panel, search for the screws right behind the screen and speaker area on the sides of tv. Should be four of them, carefully remove the lower have/quarter and you will find a control box, 6 knobs. Try adjusting them to clear the problem, each color has its own knob, be sure to mark their original position befor adjusting. When you find the red adjustment knob, you should be able to turn it down enough so that it doesnt overpower the rest of the colors. Good luck.
