Question about Whirlpool LER5636P Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer will not start

I have a Whirlpool Ler5636eq3. It started squealing the other night. Last night after load of wash finished I put a new load in and pushed the start button. It will not start or turn. It just makes a motor noise and a burning smell. The Blets are secure. Any ideas?

My dryer problem is similar to Jessie_lee_8's. When I press the start button, there is a loud buzzing noise and it sounds like the motor will not engage. Prior to this happening, the dryer was making sort of an intermitant squealing/squeaking noise and only did this for a day or two before progressing to the stage it's in now. Haven't noticed a burning smell, however.

IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH YOUR MOTOR HAS LOCKED UP AND FAILED. THE BURNING SMELL IS THE VARNISH FROM THE WINDINGS OF THE MOTOR. REPLACE THE MOTOR. THEY CAN BE HAD FOR AROUND EIGHTY DOLLARS

I have a whirlpool dryer model #LER5636EQ3 which the power cord was missing upon aquiring it, the wall socket in my laundry room is a 50amp, so I need to know if a 50amp power cord would be a proper...

The recommended power cord is a 30 amp 3- or 4- wire cable. A 50 A cord could cause a problem by allowing a surge to the dryer motor and damage the dryer or start a fire. There are 30A to 50A adapters (see RV and boat supply vendors). The installation instructions for the LER5636EQ3 are available here: https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Installation%20Instructions%20-%203397618.pdf . See page 5 of the PDF.

Note: the 50A outlet has a 50A circuit breaker protecting it. If you swap the outlet to a 30A outlet, you will also need to replace the breaker with a 30A one.

I hope this helps.

Loud squealing sound when the basket first spins up this is a Kenmore stacked set, washer on the bottom, and dryer on top

Your problem could be a bad bearing...The drum rides in a bearing at the rear middle of unit..Its basically a plastic insert...When the dryer is first started the bearing will squeal until the plastic warms up..Normally you will hear the squeal at the back middle of dryer...Your problem may also be the belt tensioner...Again a plastic wheel with a metal bearing inside...Normally this squeal will be from start to finish..

Dryer ran fine. Next load it would not start. It is a 220V, 5 cycle-3 temperature unit. Model # LER5636EQ3 TYPE: 178-00

Check your door switch to make sure its ok. Whirlpool has a fuse on the back of the machine inside. Fuse will be white in color. If that is open, check for a clogged vent or ck your hi-limit thermostat. If everything else is ok you have a bad timer.

During washing the kenmore 70 series washer squeals

Re-check the motor coupler.
If it was not seated flush on both post it will bind and squeal.

check and see if belt is broke you have to lift the top and then remove the front with two screws on each side on the inside pull out and up. after you lift the top you will see the tub and a belt should be on it if so lift up on the belt it should be snug if it comes off in your hand bingo there is your culprit remove front and install new belt
