Lap top wont start up

There is power to the laptop, however it does not start up just a blank black screen, after appoximatly 5 seconds the is one long beep followed by 2 short beeps. i checked with online support and the said it is possibly the memory, opened it up checked and reseated the memoory cards. still does the same now i have heard it could be the video card which is connected to the mother board. i have a HP Pavilion dv6000, what do you think,
also its warrently has run out.

Just to help, I had a similar problem and it was the fan for the Processor that went out. I doubt you have a memory problem or a software problem. It in my case was a hardware problem and it was the cooling fan.
Hope it helps Samuel

1 long and 2 short beeps is always vga (graphics/display card)
either not seated properly,no firmware for it (or drivers) or damaged.
BUT pc's have a nasty habit of telling you this when sometimes you have bad sectors on hd.
because sys cant locate info on device it will assume it is missing or faulty.
before you try to remove vga first check for bad sectors..you need a hd recovery bootdisk to do this (not os recovery disk)
if you cant find such software or dont know what to look for send ur email and I'll send you my link to download one.
spotmau does a good job and has other useful utlities paragon hdd recovery disk is just for hd's but the best I've used for that job.

ok lee this software will check ur hd from a type of dos platform it will run direct from cd and execute many of its programs ....

thus being able to perform many operations.

if it detects bad sectors it will repair them then you can format drive then install os .if there are no bad sectors to repair it will analize system and recover/repair it to be able to boot and run.

there are many things the spotmau disk does ...checkn it out when u receive it ..you need winrar to unpack it.unpack contents..drag and drop the iso into a folder or on desktop and write the iso to cd .if you have nero just double click on the iso and everything will be auto(apart from pressing burn of course).

for the others I'll need emails...lee urs is sent

The power lights on the lap top are blinking every 5 seconds and the screen is blank

lights blinking means your laptop is restarting after every 5 seconds. Your lappy might have gpu( graphics processing unit ) dry solder connection problem. I would get it looked at because it could also be a heat problem

When i turn on my notebook it is just black..the screen is blank i cant see anything on my desktop

How I tackle laptop screen stay blank after turning on the power switch?
1. Make sure the power is off.
2. Make sure the lap top is not plugged in (charging cord is not plugged in).
3. Remove the battery from the bottom.
4. Hold the power button for 30 to 60 seconds.
5. Plug in the power cord.
6. Turn it on as usual.
If the above instructions doesn't work, try removing and reseating the RAM sticks in the Notebook by following the guides available from page number in the Manual of the Notebook. Try starting the Notebook with one RAM module inserted and do try by inserting one RAM stick in another.
BTW, If not, you can try to buy a Laptop LCD Screen Replacement ( one of my friend got it for replacement in Papatek)

My problem started out pretty confusing. One day I turned my lap top on and the screen, after about five to ten seconds of being on, went black. I could see things loading up sort of but the screen was too...

Darkened screen as you describe indicates a failing inverter. You can test this easily by plugging the laptop into an external monitor, if this works ok, then the inverter needs replaced, If it does not work, the problem is with the graphics chip / motherboard

Dropped lap top now wont boot up

press the fn key on laptop hold it down and then press the power key on the laptop. once u see any display on the screen you will get some tests running on the screen. The system will show you the error message which u need to note down. else you can do a Flea Power on your laptop. Remove the adapter and the battery and then press the power button and hold it down for 30 seconds then connect the battery and adapter back and try to turn on the laptop. See if the magic works for you

Computer won't start

When the screen is black, try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del; a soft reset should kick it back into gear. Did the laptop shut down unexpectedly due to power loss/overheating/etc..?
