Question about Uniden Radio Communications

1 Answer

No sound when turned on

I have had this handheld CB radio for about 3 years, it hasn't been used for a year and after turning it on nothing happened. I replaced the batteries and am now able to turn it on as it makes a "beep" noise as it is turned on and the screen lights up. But there is no sound, the screen remains on. Has anyone else had this issue? or any ideas on how to fix it? The Model number is UH720SX.

The manual may be viewed here.

Have a look at the video below for a quick rundown of features and use.
If you're in the US, this is NOT a "CB" radio. It is a UHF radio operating between 476.425 Mhz and 477.400 Mhz that seems to be popular in Australia. Transmitting on this radio in the US and quite possibly a number of other countries, too) will result in violation of FCC rules & other laws; as the frequencies it works on are not available for the general public. You will likely be interfering with other users / agencies that have paid large sums of money for licenses to use these frequencies.

Check with your country's communications laws before attempting to transmit - even if in Australia - as there may be laws governing their use there, too.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I have a Uniden UHF CB Handheld Model # UH076SX-NB. Have had it for 3 years and only used a dozen times. Now I can receive but unable to transmit. Any solutions please?

How do you know that the radio does not transmit? The batteries need to be fully charged, or new to transmit. The radio is old, and the cost to repair it may be close to how much a new CB radio is.

Good luck.

Facts about Cb radio.

a Cb(Citizens Band) radio usually only broadcast on frequencies 26.965 to 27.405 megahertz. It is for mostly short range use 3 to 20 miles range. It comes with legal power of 4 watts. Ranges average about 5 miles. Don't expect big results off this little low-power Am transmitter. A basic 40 channel radio, Microphone, and "Magnet Mount" antenna plus 12 volt Dc 5A power supply will suffice. Place the Magnet mount on a metal file cabinet inside your house. hook up the Radio Shack 12 volt 3-5 Amp power supply to your 40 channel radio, Say Uniden pro510xl or Cobra 19 plus mini compact about $39 for these types. A $20 Radio Shack magnet mount. Turn on radio an talk. If you live in the city near lots of friends who have one too. You can talk on a private channel like Ch#40 and talk all night. The waves get quieter at night and extend farther into the Ionesphere;conditions are favorable 8pm to 12am. You should talk loudly within 5-7 miles easy. I like friends nearby; who live within 3 miles of me. Don't expect Long Distance with these radios. Unless you buy a big 1000 Watt Rf Linear an Tower 100 ft. with big Antennas costing $10,000. But remember the FCC will knock on your door and may give you 5 years $10,000 fines for anything of Linear amps 1000Watts. Just stick with basic tune and adjust, power mics(Cobra sells best). Talk with friends about fishing, hunting, gardens, tools, cars, women etc. Have Fun!!!

Handheld Radio Shack CB radio TRC-230 I can hear people but no one can hear me

First, lets make sure that the unit does transmit. Get a power meter and see how much power it transmits. If no power is being radiated, you need to have a technician check out the unit.
If you have power then pick a less crowded time to test out if anyone can hear you. Other people with more powerful equipments can only be a problem when you are transmitting on the same channel and both of you happen to transmit at the same time all the time. Chances are remote that this is your problem. Good luck. es

  • Sounds like you had a problem with the antenna set up or the corresponding connectors. If not done and checked right you will get an SWR through the roof. When the SWR is high the heat is returned back down the coax to the back of radio and right to the final transistor and smokes it.

  • Your radio being in a box for 3 years should not have really had any effect on its performance. There could have been some dust collect in there. You might have had the power turned up to high. Pop the covers off and see if anything is burnt. That's the first step.

  • Hope this helps.

I have a RCI 2950 comes on keyed up and stays keyed untill you turn it off. I have replaced the auto amp, all voltage regulators and the black diode with yellow strip below mic plug with no change. I need...

i have the same radio rci 2950. Ive had the same problem with mine, turns out with mine the processor would lock up,turning the radio off & on repeadly would clear the problem and the radio would work fine x-mit & recieve. the solution to fixing the problem is to replace the memory backup battery this battery works similar to a computer motherboard cmos battery when this battery goes dead all sorts of strange things happen to the radio wont transmit wont recieve or like your problem transmits continiously. the problem with replacing this battery is finding out what year & model your ranger 2950 is. the internet says only first generation ranger 2950s use the battery second genration & third generation do not use the battery. but the internet could be wrong. so i suggest getting a hold of (usa & give them a phone call or email and ask them about the year your radio was made. they may even service it for you or if you are electronic savvy you can do it yourself. the battery is located close to the main cpu on the front panel if yours uses a battery.

I have a Midland 1001Z (in use about a year) that draws power when it is off. This happened when the unit was not in use and drained the car's battery. On the bench I checked and there's about 500...

it shouldn't be drawing. if there was a real problem with the radio it shouldn't even turn o..,off.clicked is switch power the juice.pulling actually is it if see actually to meter clamp a need would you resistance will have nothing to do with power drawing. you will alwayssee zme sort of resistance. on. I have left a cb on in my vehicle for over a week and it did not kill the battery. I think what ever drained your battery has little or nothing to do with your b radio. ohms is resistance. it is not a measurement of current. this does not tell our it is drawing anything

I am to trasmitt and receive while ignition key is off but when i turn key on i still am able to transmitt but i receive a lot of stastic. I have replaced the antenna and co ax and redone the ground.

Hi, my name is John. That noise you hear is probably coming from switch, such as ,seat belt warning, door, light, key switch , exc. Try running your CB wire strait to the battery, and see if it stops. If not, Radio Shack sells a noise limiter that goes in line with your connection, don't know how much. Do you have your noise limiter or noise blanker switch on the radio?...hope this was very helpful....

Change frequency coverage

It would cost about 3 times as much as the radio IF it could be done. I myslef don't believe it can be, techs can't even turn up the wattage in those things.
