IXD 420U projector takes a long time to project and has pink ima

If possible, try to replace the VGA cable between the projector and the computer. A bent or broken pin, or a damaged wire, can prevent the blue or green (or both) portions of the picture from being displayed. The result is a reddish/pinkish picture.

As for the long time to project an image, this could be an extended warm-up time. How old is the bulb in the projector? Does the projector have an option to display the hours used and/or remaining on the bulb? Bulbs do have a finite life, and when they near the end of their service life, they can become more difficult to start.

Hope this helps!

The colors are faded on the left side of the screen, does that mean I need to replace the bulb?

it just needs a cleaning. blow the dust out of it with canned air. also check the colorwheel for caked-on dust. you can see the colorwheel if you remove the lamp. there will be a small opening with colored class behind it. if it's clear, it's ok. if it's milky, replace the colorwheel. you can try to clean it with a microfiber cloth, but be gentle and don't use solvents. just to be sure, check the lamp for bulges, black spots, and fogging. if it has any one of those, replace the lamp.

Sometimes the NP50 lamp will come on, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it seems like the color out-put isn't sharp or correct, like a faded picture. It's like something is wrong with the color. So it seems...

projectors really don't like hot and humid. they love cool and dry. if the colorwheel is failing, the lamp wouldn't come on. humidity+dust+intense lamp heat=coated components. such as the colorwheel glass, which is clear and coloered. fried dust will cause dimness. you'd have to send it in to nec.
