Question about Garmin nuvi 200W GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Repair site? What happened to your repair site? I've sent a few people over there for broken screens, etc but your site now gives "Internal Error"??? I'm TOLady on the fixya.com.

Actually, that was supposed to be an email to one of the fellow helpers here who has a website, he repairs broken NUVI's. His site is down but he can still be reached at KS3R@sharc.net

Our site host is upgrading their system, so the server is not working properly. We can be reached at sharcnet-usa@sharc.net

    Hi TOLady,

My hosting provider has a problem with their server. I am told they are working on it. Feel free to pass along my email address as my email is unaffected.

Hi TOLady,

I was just on the Garmin site this a.m. and had no problem accessing it. Maybe the site was down when you're referrals went there. If I can help with anything, just let me know.

I have a 2595, when pluged in the screen comes on for a few seconds then goes to black. What is wrong?

Major problem with the Nuvi 25xx series is a loose/broken USB jack in the back which is preventing power from remaining constant into the unit. This will also prevent the internal battery from being charged. We can repair this issue and reinforce the jack. Please see this link for more information:

My Garmin 1490 LMT goes to white screen with "press dot" only its not to calibrate it bc no matter how many times you push it it wont go, it wont get out of that screen so I can't do...

The white screen indicates are internal error. It keeps telling the unit to go into calibration mode. The item will need to be sent to garmin for repair. 1-800-800-1020. If your unit was purchased recently (less than a year) it is covered under Garmins limited Warranty.

Frozen screen cant turn on or off.

Hi! I've just finishing dealing with this on my Go720.
Symptoms - freezes during startup and can not turn off.
Tried resetting - but this only turns the unit off. When it tries to restart it still freezes during startup sequence.
So - connected to PC and ran TomTom HOME2. I had backed the unit up only a few month previous, so I tried to do this. However, it threw an error on this procedure. I then thought that perhaps I could erase the memory contents and reinstall the contents of my backup folder. However, playing safe, I first wanted to do a dump of all my files on the units internal memory. Halfway through this I had an error message saying that one file was corrupt and could not be read. The file was clmdata. So ... after more researching the web I read that the file clmdata has been blamed for this freezing problem. I examined my Go720 internal memory and tried to overwrite the corrupt clmdata with the one from my backup set. That failed as the file was corrupt. In windows explorer then deleted the clmdata file but all this did was generate a file of 0 bytes with the original name. However, I now tried again to restore the unit with TomTom HOME, and this time it worked. Unit is fine now! From what I've read, you may not need to use the restore function, but just delete (or try to delete) the clmdata file, and the unit recreates it when it restarts. Best of luck!

All of a sudden, my Go 920 screen calibration is way out of sync, enough so that I can't select any buttons accurately. I have restored, reformatted, etc, but I can't even select the language...

Well, I can say this from a guy that has had several gps, in most cases Tom Tom is considered the low budget of the gps devices out there. If your lucky when you buy them and they work, feel lucky. They are considered disposable gps systems. I went through a few myself, until I ended up getting a megellian and works perfect, mor goodies, and never a problem in the last 4 years I h?ve had it. My advice, don't bother trying to fix it, because in a few months will happen again. Thanks Mike ( x truck driver)

Nuvi 710 will not start up and is stuck on the Garmin page. I have tried the reset procedure - thumb on lower right hand corner of the screen etc. etc. but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

This is a rare glitch ive come across with some different Garmin GPS's. I just had to send it out to Garmin by calling them up at 1-800-800-1020 tell them your problem, give them the serial number on the GPS i believe is on the bottom or back of the GPS. They will give you all the information needed to get your Nuvi sent to them and have them repair/ replace the faulty unit. The whole process took me about 2-3 days from sending it out to getting my replacement.

My Tom Tom 920 will not stay on the map screen for more than a few seconds.

Its sounds like a problem with the screen then. If it is still under warranty, return it

Broken touch screen

if it is cracked then most likely it will need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repairs. If its not working correctly you could always try to do a screen calibration.

We are NOT garmin, we are a help site for various products. You'd be best to write Garmin with all the details of your unit ID, date sent, etc.
