Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

Harmon kardon hkts 5 subwoofer pops, has static sound.

As stated, subwoofer pops and has a static noise as soon as you turn it on. The speaker is jumping too, like you are putting actual voltage on it instead of watts. after about 4-5 minutes it calms down, but has very little volume, even with a cd player connected strait to it. can barely hear it. took the amplifier out and there is a blackened area on the board with the heat sink, but nothing appears to be bad. it is black at location r146, to c117, to d109, to r111, to r149 all around the area on the board where those components are located. please help? thank you

Ok, I found some loose connections on the main pcb, after re soldering them, the sub now just makes one small pop when power is turned on, will not come out of stand by mode. I can hear it clicking on and when its turned off, right before the red light goes off, it turns green for just a split second.

SOURCE: 4 ohm and 8 ohm speakers

You can plug in higher ohm speakers , the higher the ohm the higher the resistance is, it is a danger when you plug lower ohm speakers into a higer ohm Amp , at a high volume that will cause them to blow , the center speaker would be fine to use a higer ohm speaker , your best choice is to buy a Active Subwoofer, which means the sub has it's own power supply , and u can blast the thing as much as u like , thn u can turn the bass down on all the other speaker's so u can play it louder , and have the sub turned up has high as u like , this is the best way to get great sound with high volume , buy a Active sub woofer , any active subwoofer is ok , a active sub woofer has its own volume and inputs on the speaker ,

SOURCE: Cerwin Vega ve-28s subwoofer and new Cervin Vega 2-way satellites

I bought my VE-28s and it did exactly that crackled, cerwin replaced part in amp but few months later problem persisted. they then replaced entire amp assembly and its been fine. i really push it to and its been fine. to test it, unplug the connection from amp/ reciever and see if it persists. if so its the sub, if not its the amp/ reciever. dont dump it, these subs really crank and can put out some deep loud bass.

SOURCE: I believe an amplifier problem

I had a problem with no audio and I recently found the fix. When thesub still worked and you turn it on you hear one relay click and thenabout 5 seconds later a second relay clicks and the audio comes on. Theproblem I had lies with that second relay. When you take the case apartthere are 4 circuit boards. The big board with the two big bluecapacitors is the main board. Well next to the two blue capacitors is ablue relay. That relay had a pin that came un-soldered from the circuitboard. I re-soldered that pin and the sub works just like new. If yougo here http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/20627/sony_sawm500.htmlyou can find a free service manual that has the wiring schematics forthe amp. Hope this helps!

WHY is my harman kardon HKTS 15 subwoofwer is making a booming sound

Disconnect the cable and check the impedance/ohms with a meter. If rated at 4 ohms then it should read near that value. For 8 ohms also the reading should be near that value. You can buy a cheap Volt ohm meter for under ten dollars. After taking the ohm reading,it will be easier to diagnose................

It is either blown or you are overloading it and it is close to blowing. Check your wiring and make sure your amp is matched properly with how you have it wired.

My hkts 15 subwoofer sounds blown. Ive tested the speaker and its not. I sent it in for repair and they could not find anything. Now I thinking its the amp? One day it started working fine and then sounded...

It could be either bad parts or bad solder connections or both but I agree with you if did what you said. Amp will have to be run for a while to know if it or something else.

A scope monitoring the line with the issue will be able to see when it fails.

I am getting no sound from sub. The turns on, but so sound. I have connected to two different receivers to verify it isn't the receiver sub output.

Bear with me on this.

Just because two systems don't light this sub up doesn't prove the amps are faultless unless they work with other subs. Can you assert that?

How are you driving the sub - Speaker or Line Level?

My HKTS 7 Sub woofer makes no noise, the led burns from amber to blue as normal, and every so often i hear a low rumble noise. The Sub is powered and has 1 cable to the receiver, the fuse is also good.

Subwoofer is center speaker from A+B speaker signals. first check your wire to the receiver. Otherwise you need electronics service on the amplifier inside the speaker.

Subwoofer buzz & rattels & won't play music have to turn up to highest volume then sound comes out very low & still buzz & rattels off & on

That might be the woofer itself in the subwoofer, or the ampliifer.

5 year warranty on the woofer, one year on the electronics.

The woofer can be removed and checked; it should be about 3.4 ohms DCR.

Other wise,

I moved from one apartment to another and when I plug my sub woofer in now it is distorted even without connection to the reciever. What coukld it be ?

There is a possibility that you might have damaged the diaphragm in the process of moving which would create the same noise as you described.
