Question about Acer Aspire 5000 Notebook

1 Answer

Area wireless connections will not appear

Seems that there is a switch that has been turned off but
have been unable to determine what and where it is. I was
going to bring up the internet using another wireless connection
and I thought I just highlighted the one that I had been using
and entered. At that point it came up with a message that said
it could not connect to any connections.
Everything else seems to be on and enabled.

Cannot connect my acer 5600 wirelessly. WIFI is not lighted on. It says to turn on wireless switch.

The wireless switch is on the front edge of the laptop. With the lid closed, its position on the front edge is just under the right latch of the lid. Turn on by sliding the switch to the right momentarily. You should see Wireless LAN Enabled in large green letters appear briefly at the bottom of the screen. A single screen icon should appear in the desktop's Toolbar at the bottom right of the screen. If the icon doesn't appear, then likely the Wireless Network Connection is disabled. To enable do the following steps....
1. click start button at bottom right of screen
2. click Control Panel
3. in the Control Panel window, click Network Connections
4. right click Wireless Network Connection
5. on the drop-down menu click enable
If there is no Wireless Network Connection in the Control Panel's Network Connection, then the setting up of the Wireless Network Connection was skipped when the laptop was first unpacked and setup. In Control Panel, click on the Wireless Network Setup Wizard to setup the Wireless Network Connection.

How to turn on wireless switch on a Toshiba 5205-S505?

First - Determine if your Toshiba Satellite has built-in Wi-Fi. Open the Start menu in the lower left corner of the desktop. Choose "Control Panel" and select "Performance and Maintenance." Click on the "System" icon and click on the "Hardware" tab in the System Properties window. Click on the "Device Manager" button. Click on the plus sign next to "Network adapters." Look for a device that has "Wireless" or "WLAN" in the name. If you see this device listed, then you have built-in wireless.

Next - Turn on the wireless by holding down the "Fn" key on the keyboard and then pressing "F8" at the top of the keyboard. Press this combination until the window indicates that Wi-Fi is on. Some Toshiba notebooks have a switch on the front left side of the laptop that will turn the Wi-Fi on. Many Toshiba Satellites have an LED indicator light on the right front edge of the notebook that will turn on when the Wi-Fi is on.

Finally - Click on the Start menu in the lower left corner of the desktop. Select "My Network Places" and click on "View network connections" in the menu on the left side of the window. Double click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon. This will open a window that lists available wireless networks. Click on the name of the network you wish to connect to and click on the "Connect" button at the bottom. Type in the password if required and connect to to the network. Open a web browser to test the connection.

Basic troubleshootingTo troubleshoot wireless network connections in Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. Check the Windows Catalog at http://www.windowsmarketplace.com to determine if there is a Windows XP-compatible driver that is available for your wireless adapter.
    • If there is a compatible driver, install the updated driver before you perform any additional troubleshooting procedures.
    • If there is not a compatible driver, you may be able to use the network adapter, but its configuration and functionality may be very limited.
  2. Determine if the driver that you are using recognizes the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration service. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. in the right pane, click Network and Internet Connections.
    3. In the right pane, click Network Connections.
    4. Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
    5. View the available options:
      • If you do not see the Wireless Network Connection icon in the Network Connections folder, or if you cannot view the properties, there is a problem with the driver for the wireless network adapter. To troubleshoot this problem, see the Driver installation issuessection.
      • If you can view the properties for the Wireless Network Connection icon, but you do not see a Wireless Networks tab, see the Drivers that do not support the Wireless Zero Configuration service section to continue troubleshooting.
      • If you can view the properties, and you can see and use the Wireless Networks tab, see the Drivers that support the Wireless Zero Configuration service section to continue troubleshooting.
      • If the Authentication tab is missing in the Wireless Network Connection properties, make sure that the Wireless Zero Configuration service is running.

Wireless switch

Although the wireless switch on your Acer does turn on/off your wireless card, you will also need to make sure that your operating system (Windows) has the wireless card enabled.

Do the following:
  1. Go to Control Panel (Start -> Control Panel)
  2. Double-click Network Connections
  3. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection / WLAN (you can tell it is disabled if the icon is greyed)
    3dce7ab.jpg
  4. Click on "Enable" (if you see Disable, your network is already enabled)
You should check the bottom-right-hand area of your screen (in the menu bar) for your wireless icon. If this is not appearing, you'll have to go into Network Connections again and do the following:
  1. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection (your wireless network adapter)
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click the checkbox that says "Show icon in notification area when connected"
    685e49b.jpg
  4. Now click on the Wireless Networks tab (at the top of this dialogue box)
  5. Scan for a network and connect to it.

Wireless not functioning

reinstall it clean or reinstall wireless drivers..after that just unplug the router and let it reconfigure ..this will get the wireless network in sight again ..sometimes it just stops transmitting or makes issues like that ..but if the wireless card is fine ..than all it may be wrong is the router ..In worse case just reset the router and configure it again .. but I think it will be enoug to unplug it for 30 seconds..

Wireless not functioning

HI there,

Check the hardware. Most network problems stem from improper software and hardware settings, but occasionally hardware failures are responsible. If a shared Internet connection seems to be down, try to watch a cable television channel if you have a cable modem or use the phone if you have DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) to see if the entire service is down. If it is, contact your ISP to see if there is a problem in your area. Check all cable connections and consider replacing Ethernet cables if the problem seems to be confined to a particular computer or device.
Click on the HERE..

Thank you & post back how things get done..
