When sending a doc to print it reboots the computer

If printer is in Power Saver mode - clicking on Go will turn off the computer to a Restart mode. Same if sending a doc to print will cause the the computer to restart while the the printer will blink until manually clicking on Go.

Hi,
There could be lot of reasons for this to happen.
First, It could be because of faulty/corrupted Cable if you are connecting your printer to PC with USB Cable.
Secondly, it could be because of Driver mismatch, you need to uninstall and reinstall the printer software/drivers
Or it could be problem with Printer spooler.

Try the steps below

Go to Start / Run and type in "services.msc" without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK.

(If you are using Windows Vista/Win 7, You need to click on START button and under search program and files - Enter the Services.msc and click the same program from Program list that appear )

In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right

Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties".

Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service".

Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them.

Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go.

Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.

The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic

Regards,
Sean

SOURCE: Lexmark X 1270 Can not Print

I may be a bit late with this but it worked for me. Uninstall your antivirus, remove any parental controls and disable your firewall. Then, reinstall the printer and download a 2008 version of your anti virus and re-enable your firewall. I haven't reactivated the parental controls just in case it all goes pear shaped.

SOURCE: Printer won't print until I restart my computer.

After you have this problem again. Go to Control panel and look for administrative tools. Click on services and scroll down until you see the print spooler service.. Right click on this and select restart. Let me know if the printer then functions after this.

SOURCE: lexmark x1270 printer power button blinking won't print

I had the same issue with my Lexmark X1290, I solved it by opening up the device, so the ink cartridges should pop, they didn't so I pressed the power button to switch it off, and then switched it back on (with the device open!) and all the paper flowed out, the flashing stopped and it could print again. Good Luck!

Disable power saving mode

Sorry, but you will NOT be able to DISABLE the power saver mode on this printer. The printer will still go into "power saver mode", but it takes longer to do so, if you set diffrent as default time delay [ Two power saver modes: (1) print to standby mode 35 Watt, user-definable 1-30 minutes, default 3 minutes ; (2) print to powersaver mode 4 Watt, user-definable 5-60 minutes, default 10 minutes ].

My lexmark will only print from Wi-Fi . When we try to print from my main computer it wont print unless you restart the computer and then it prints.

If the communication problem happens when the printer is on power saver mode, a firmware update should help fix the problem. A firmware update for your model addresses the problem where the printer is having trouble waking up from sleep mode. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install update at http://bit.ly/p905fw. Please make sure the printer is awake and the USB cable is connected from the printer to your computer when updating.

Why is light blinking on on-off button?

The blinking light indicates that the printer is on power saver mode. The Power Saver Mode saves energy by lowering power consumption during extended periods of inactivity. However, if you try to print from your computer when the printer is on power saver mode, the printer should automatically wake up and prints the job. You can also manually wake it up by just pressing and releasing the power button. Thanks.

Word doc takes ages to open and print

How long has it been since you defragmented your hard drive?

Start - My Computer - then Right-Click on your C drive and click on Properties.

Click on the Tools tab. I suggest you click on Check Now, then click both boxes and click "OK". It should tell you it cannot complete the task, tell it to check the next time you reboot.

Then reboot and let it scan your hard drive. It will reboot when it is done.

Then back into Start - My Computer - Right-Click on C, click on Properties. Then on the Tool tab, click on Defragment Now and let it finish.

Then try opening a Word DOC and see if it is any better. You may want to reboot again.

You should have about a half a gig (512MB) of RAM in XP, or 1Gig in Vista. And at least 10 times that free in your hard drive.

What version of Windows, how much RAM, and how much free hard drive space is there?

How to turn off the cleaning page feature in Xerox Phaser 8500

Actually what is happening is your machine is going into the power save mode and staying there for a long time.
What happens then is you get a full warmup. When the machine warms up, it will turn on the compressor and drain the resivour because Xerox wants a "fresh": supply of ink in the print head.
Its excruciatingly expensive and wasteful.
Here is something that can help. I am not sure you can completely disable the energy save mode. Thanks Al Gore...
NOTE: To save energy, the printer enters a power saver, low-energy consumption mode after a predefined period of time since its last activity. In this mode, most printer electrical systems are shut down. When a print job is sent to the printer, the printer enters the Warm-up Mode. You can also warm up the printer by pressing the [OK] button on the Control Panel.
If the printer is going into Power Saver mode too often and you do not want to wait while the printer warms up, increase the length of time before the printer goes into the Power Saver mode.
Modify the timeout value:
  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Printer Setup] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Printer Controls], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Power Saver Timeout], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select the required timeout value (30 - 240 minutes), and then press the [OK] button.

NOTE: Select a larger timeout value to extend the length of time before the printer goes into the Power Saver mode.

  5. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Exit], and then press the [OK] button to return to the Main screen

HP OFFICEJET PRO K5400 - COMMISSIONED FRIDAY OCTOBER 17 1) TODAY OCT 21 PRINTING PDF DOCS TEXT WITH COLOUR PICS, PRINTED SEVERAL COPIES OK, PRINTER STOPPED PRINTING THE PICTURES. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS...

Try this !
in the software application you are printing from
Open the document that you want to print.
2. On the File menu, click Print, and then click Setup, Properties, or Preferences.

Look for a Best Mode Setting
this printer has several modes one being draft mode, another one best mode
in best mode the printer uses memory to render the photo you are trying to print.
Note that in this mode, printing takes
longer and more memory is required from your computer.
from page 17 of the hp k5400 user manual

Also you may have to increase the virtual memory of the windows pc to allow the computers hard drive to allocate more hard drive memory to the memory swap file if the computer's ram is not enough to print the photo.
It is a setting in the control panel under system - performance.
