Question about Telex 3280 Caramate 80 Slides Rotary Carousel Slide Projector

1 Answer

Slide/tray advancement My Telex Caramate 3270, ser. no. 151508 (maybe 25 years old) is sporadic in advancing the slide tray. I disconnect the remote control and it does the same with the buttons on the projector. I turn it on and off and then it works for a few slides. Anything to help is most appreciated. I really need this projector this week in teaching my classes.

This link talks specifically about a Kodak slide projector. However the faulty mechanism in your Telex works in a similar way if you feel up to taking it apart. If you do, mark every screw and piece you remove, in a diagram. Though your symptom is sporadic advancing and the other link is continuous advancing, it's essentially the same cause, as sticking trigger mechanism in the clutch release.

Projector turns itself off and on

Caramates have a Thermal Breaker built into their electrical circuits, which will "open" if the internal temperature gets too high for safety. When the internal temperature drops to an acceptable level, the breaker "re-sets" and the projector will come back on. You will need to check for any obstructions to air flow first. Next, make sure the exhaust fan is running at the proper speed. Once those items are checked, if the problem still exists, you will need to locate a circuit diagram and the appropriate thermal breaker for replacement. Good Luck!! Jim

Can I advance my slide tray manually?

A Kodak Carousel 600 has no Forward/Reverse buttons for tray movement. The only way to advance the tray with the slide change mechanism is by LIGHTLY depressing the SELECT bar. To manually advance the tray, push and hold the SELECT bar down fully. While holding the SELECT bar, you should be able to rotate the tray by hand. Good Luck!! Jim

On my kadak 4400 I placed a slide tray with 35mm slides in. After turning the power on I attempted to advance the first slide. Nothing happened with the slide. I turned it off reset the tray and tried. ...

Try turning your projector on without a slide tray. Cycle it 2 or 3 cycles in reverse. Place the tray back on the projector and cycle forward. By cycling it a few times in reverse, it re-sets the cycling mechanism.

I have an OLD telex projector. Looks like a box with a tv screen on one side and carousel on top. have no idea how to use it. maybe bulb needs replacing

Telex called those "CaraMate XXXX" (XXXX usually relating to model number ). The old ones projected on the internal screen. Newer models could project both on the internal screen and (by sliding a door on the top panel) on a projection screen for larger audiences.
If it needs a lamp, check with: www.bulbman.com But you may have to search - - it's been a long time since they were manufactured!
Good Luck !!

I have an old Kodak Caromate 3300 slide projector. Can I get a manual for this? I cant get it working properly, ie carousel will not move forward and slide cannot be viewed.

Is it a Kodak AudioViewer or a Caramate 3300?? hard to tell from the problem description.
If it is a Kodak branded unit, I know Kodak doesn't have the manuals any more, so my advice is to contact a factory-trained service dealer to see if they still have a service manual!
If it is Caramate branded, I'm really not sure where to send you. There were subtle design differences between the 2 brands!!
Good Luck !!

My carousel tray will not advance. I was looking at slides (the unit has not been used in 10 yrs) and everything was working fine. Then the unit stopped advancing the slide tray. I have lost the owners...

I'm assuming you are talking about a Kodak Slide Projector. If this is so, and it hasn't been used in at least 10 years, then it is probably an earlier-produced model. If the fan & lamp work and just the slides don't advance, then chances are you have a broken solenoid "link". This "link" joins the Cycle Solenoid and the Slide Change Mechanism together. As the projector ages, the link (made of plastic) gets hard, brittle & cracks. This will, in literally one slide change, make the projector go from working to not working.
Parts are still available (www.micro-tools.com), but this repair should not be tackled by the untrained. I recommend you contact a factory-trained dealer to make the repair.

Will Not advance or go back with remote

If you have another Slide Tray (preferably an 80-slide tray), try that. If it exhibits the same failure with another tray, then you have one of 2 problems: either a mechanical problem that is preventing the direction lever to advance or reverse the tray; OR you have an electrical problem - the low voltage that controls the advance circuitry is either too low or not present. Either way, you need an KODAK Authorized Repair Dealer to help you sort this out.

We have a Kodak Carousel 650A projector. (140 slide carousel) Cannot advance the slides using the remote or the select bar. Putting in the individual slides with the carousel off the select bar will eject...

The purpose of the "SELECT BAR" on a Carousel 650H is to eject the slide. If you press & hold the select bar it allows you to rotate the tray to the slide you want (or Zero & remove the tray). If you can not advance or reverse the slide tray using either the remote buttons or the buttons on the side of the projector, then chances are you have a broken part in the slide change mechanism. The possibilities are numerous, and really requires a trained tech to analyze your specific failure. Sorry the news isn't better (or simpler!).
