Hard Drive switching

Can I switch a hard drive from one computer to another? I nave a HP NC 4000 and a Compaq nx9005 and I want to trade the hard drives from one to the other to save having to reload everything. Is it possible? If so what would have to be done?

You have to check the physical dimensions first, as most of the spares are tailor made for a particular model and cannot be used for other models. The easier way to transfer data would be to connect a data cable or network cable, create a network between both the PCs and transfer the data.

Compaq 6715b not finding hard drive

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Can I install the hard drive of my old hp 8510p in my hp presario cq 42? will it run the old windows vista? My new hp presario cq 42 is running the new windows 7?

If the hard drive is compatible with your presario cq 41 then it will work. The operating system does not matter if you're switching hard drives.

If you want to update the operating system on the old hard drive, you will need to have the software for Windows 7.

Hi there,

Go into the BIOS setup (press f10 during boot process), then SYSTEM CONFIGURATION and disable SATA NATIVE SUPPORT. Try installing XP again and it should see your hard drive.

Harddisk is not getting detected

You computer cannot find your hard disk. The hard drive could be faulty or the hard disk controller has failed.
Reseat the hard drive (remove it and install it again), this may fix your problem with the connector on the motherboard.
If reseating doesn't work, the hard drive may be faulty, remove the drive and insert it into a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port, if this computer see your hard disk as an external drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive then it is OK and the fault most likely is the controler in the laptop.
If you cannot see the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty. To get your laptop operational again, you need a new hard disk and need to install Windows on the new hard disk together with your
