Please make a detailed explain of the roblem ...the only way of the avg to interfere with the connection is if it has settings for this ...like it own firewall ( I mean avg firewall) this is not available in any of the free avg ..so ..the problem is a different kind... go to bios at the features setup ...and look if it detects your LAN ..or modem ( in case) ..the last one needs to be enabled if ya are on this kind of connection .if you use a LAN connection ..and you can not find it into your bios...than try to remove cmos battery to reset and it will see it again ...if you do that dont forget to re set the time and date ..cause it would not start windows without ..it will prompt you to do that first ...

Do i need to install anything before using my notebook on the net

Yes, you should have firewall and antivirus programs installed to protect your notebook from the myriad of malware threats that exist on the internet.

If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 3, Vista or 7, then you have a built in Windows Firewall which should be enabled if no other firewall program is installed.

There are a variety of both free and commercial security products available which will offer good protection for connecting to the internet.

AntiVirus tools
Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials
AVG Anti-Virus Free 2012 http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage
Avira Free Antivirus http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus
Avast! Free Antivirus http://www.avast.com/en-gb/index
Integrated Security Suites
Comodo Internet Security Free http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php
Outpost Free Security Suite http://free.agnitum.com/

Of the above I have been using Comodo Internet Security for some years and find it very good.

Important Note: Do not install more than one AntiVirus program as this will cause problems. Windows Firewall can be enabled when another firewall program is installed but isn't necessary and most firewall programs will automatically disable Windows Firewall when installed.

Dell Inspiron 6000 will not connect to internet

It is still possible that it is infected

whilst AVG and S&D are good I dont know of any security product that "does it all"

I would reccomend "superantispyware" and "malwareantibytes"

http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

download them to a usb drive and install them to the affected computer and run them

Set any setting to scan as deep and as many items as possible

It is also concievable that a virus or trojan has taken over some of the network settings and possibly the "HOSTS" file

Another program to download and run would be "hijackthis"

http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html

That program can save a log file which can be posted to particular web sites. On these sites are people who know how to disect that log and tell you what to remove and how.

Hi , sounds like you either got a virus(s) or spyware problem,

download AVG from

http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-10044820&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11014801

right first make sure your firewall is enabled, uninstall current anti virus software.

Ok reboot,

install avg, this is now done online so a it downloads then installs

let it update and then run,

let it do a full scan.

Update an antivirus

Sometimes AVG is unable to update due to their servers being updated. Verify that you can go to free.avg.com. If you can go there and your program still refuses to update, re download a new installation package, run it, and do a repair installation on AVG. That should fix the issue. If it doesn't, uninstall AVG completely and then reinstall after you reboot 2x.

AVG Free dnload messed up IP protocol configuration...no internet

Having experienced the same problem, and not having the luxury of reformatting the HD, the solution presented itself quite by chance. Having uninstalled both AVG 8.0 and Vista SP1 (which can also cause the problem), there was an entry for AVG Filter still in the network connection properties. Uninstalling that entry solved the connection issue. Re-installing both SP1 and AVG 8.0 did not cause the problem to reappear (nor did the AVG Filter entry come back). If you have uninstalled SP1, you may have to uninstall then re-install your wireless adapter from Device Manager (Search for Hardware Changes) - another minor snag experienced during the battle.

Norton or avg free edition?

Both AVG and nod32 are quite good against viruses, but being only antivirus, and not a complete security suite, are both weak against other malaware threats.

If you do not want to buy a complete security suite like Nornon internet security, or Macafee security sute you can buy either AVG or nod32. Install a firewall like Zonealarm or similar to integrate the antivirus protection. AVG takes less RAM than nod 32, otherwise performances are similar.

If you are really worried about additional threats, you can integrate a free antivirus with a firewall and a good antimalaware like Spybot-S&D. This may slow down the computer a bit.
