Question about Brother MFC-9420CN All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Brother MFC-9420CN printing & copying very faint

Thought the problem might be the OPC belt, but fixed that with the 1&7 trick.
Seems I have 0% life on the PF Kit 2. whatever that is - is it relevant?

Thanks for the feedback - how does the paperfeed kit affect the faintness of the printing? Could it be anything else?

  • justin289 Jan 29, 2009

OK, thanks. I'm getting the technician to replace the PF Kit & I'll let you know the result.

Since the paper is not feeding properly the colors are off a little bit.
    This affects the printing .

Check to make certain that the OPC belt is both seated correctly and that it is not damaged as even though it may have what you consider to be sufficient life left in it, if damaged, it needs to be replaced.

OPC Belt needs replacing

Try pressing 1 and 7 at the same time
The LCD will show "OPC belt 1. Reset 2. Exit
Select 1 to reset the life counter.

This is supposed to be done when replacing the drum unit...but I've found that I can get 1.5 to 2 lifespans from a single unit.

NO OPC BELT on MFC-9420cn

The opc sensor is not sensing the belt. Open the front cover and remove all the toner trays. You will see the green OPC and the sensor is located in the left upper corner. Also open the top cover and remove the OPC. Clean the sensor with a soft bristle brush. Also make sure the OPC left side is free of toner deposits. This may incorrectly trigger the OPC position sensor. Hope this helps.

Loud and Grinding noise

I had the same problem, except my 9420cn is just over 1 year old. The parts life section says everything has atleast 75% of it's life left. I checked the toner cartridges and found the gear on the cyan cartridge was jammed.

I replaced it and no more noise....

As far as the OPC belt - don't replace it until you start seeing ghosts and image defects! Reset it by:
