Turn the filter CCW and pull out. (water can stay on) remove knob from filter and put it on the new one. Insert the filter and turn CW to lock in place.

Whirlpool Gold Side by Side refrigerator GSS26C4XX, how to force the defrost?

With the bottom kick panel removed, look for a defrost timer. It will look like a small motor and have a slotted fitting on the end of the shaft - usually you can turn it only one way. With the unit running, slowly rotate the timer shaft 'till the compressor stops. That's the beginning of the defrost cycle, which will end when the timer makes a full revolution. It's usually 12 or 24 hours between defrost cycles.
If the box is completely electronically controlled (electronic logic board), you may not find a mechanical defrost timer.

From investigation, I would open the control panel (make sure the power is turned off first!) Look for a ribbon cable that goes to the Touch Pad and Control pad module. It should be able to be removed from the control board. Pull out the ribbon cable, and put the ribbon cable back into the connector. Be careful with the cable as they can be broken easily. Once you have everything back together, turn the power back on and test the pad. If it still doesn't work, the control board may be bad.

Ice maker not working

try manually filling it with 4 ounces with a cup or baster of water through the front door straight into the ice maker mold, sometimes they will take off on their own,if not remove rear cover behind the refrige where the water fill valve is located, check resistance of water valve to i/m,if ok,then burnish solenoid water valve terminal connections, sometimes they get corroded, just moving this connection will help too

if compressor isn't running you could have a bad start device, unplug the machine, pull it away from the wall, remove the back bottom panel, look at the compressor, you'll see the start device on the side of the compressor, pop off the metal clip and slide back the device, there are three pins on the compressor and the device has three holes in it,you line up the holes and push the device onto the pins and to remove it pull back on the device to slide it off the pins, the easiest way to check it is to shake it,if you hear pieces rattling around inside the device it's bad,you can check it with a meter.if it's bad call your parts store, give them the full model number and they will send you the correct part,if the start device is good, there's also a computer board in this machine part W10446514 and it's around 90 dollars.hope this helps you out and good luck.

Whirlpool Gold refrigerator water leaking

If it's flooding, it's NOT the drain pan. It's probably the water valve has gotten stuck in the open position. Hope this helps!

Water Filter

most whirlpools have the filter located in the bottom kickplate, right below the freezer door. turn counter-clockwise and toward you to remove. if it has never been removed before, they are hard to get out the first time.
