UL number for Intermatic spring wound Timer FD15MWC

I want to replace my Intermatic Spring Wound Interval Timer and I found the matching timer online, but when I opened the switchplate the original one has the UL number on it, and my new one doesnt. Does this matter?

1) Probably not if the timer looks identical and is approximately the same weight, and not a lightweight knock-off product.
Which doesn't make sense why a chinese company would knock off a timer that doesn't sell in giant quantities, and there are so many other similar timers on the market from Utilitec, Woods, GE, Tork, etc.

http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/038_FD-series-sell-sheet-with-wiring.pdf

2) The Intermatic brand FD and FF series timers have phillips-head screw terminals for connecting wire, and wire enters on the side.

3) All spring-wound timers are rated heavy-duty for 1HP at 120Volt and 2 HP at 240Volt. Set times are approximate. Timer has 1 year limited warranty against defects in manufacture and will last many years as long as amp-rating is not overloaded.

SOURCE: For an intermatic EJ341 spring wound timer, there

Switch has 2 wire > one of these wires is Hot and it connects to Timer black wire > the other wire goes to Load and connects to Timer red wire.

If you get these two wires reversed, timer will not run, so switch them. You know timer is running when dial on front of timer rotates with passing time. You can test for Hot wire by taking out switch, separate wires, turn on power, test each wire to bare ground, tester lights up with Hot wire.

Timer white wire goes Neutral. This wire is necessary to run clock inside timer. Locate Neutral wire inside box >> it is usually two or more white wires twisted together and pushed to back of box. If you do not have a Neutral wire, connect Timer white wire to bare ground wire ... until you can hire electrician to run additional wire to box.

SOURCE: The spring that turns off

Parts are not available for WH21 240V water heater timer.
Timer has 1 year limited warranty.
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service/frequently%20asked%20questions.aspx
WH21 is rated for 25Amps and works on water heaters up to 4500Watts.
Look at label on side of tank to see wattage.
WH21 is SPST and turns off one hot wire to water heater.

I ran a business for many years.
Cost of stocking, organizing, and shipping parts is near same cost as new timer.

Following page shows selection of replacement timers:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Boxtype.html

For example, I have tested WH40 and T104 and other timers that show on page.
Trippers and motors are available for Intermatic box timers WH40 and T104, so you can maintain these specific models for many years.
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/timer-accessories/timers/electrical/ecatalog/N-8hi
WH40 and T104 timers are SPDT and turn off both hot wires to water heater.
Both timers will work on any wattage residential water heater

SOURCE: broken press on knob for

Intermatic makes replacement plastic knobs, but I have not run across a metal knob.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html#FD-knob

Since the plastic knob sells for $3-4, and probably is not a high volume seller, there would not be much incentive for industry to make a knock-off imitation of Intermatic knob out of more costly material like metal, let alone have a viable market outlet for that product.

I'm looking for a timer to replace the thermostats for 2 furnaces in a riding arena.

1) Yes a spring-wound timer will work.
Woods 59717, Intermatic FD60, etc
There are other models depending on length of time, and color of timer
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#countdown
http://waterheatertimer.org/Countdown-timer-horsepower-ratings.html

2) How to wire to 24 volts
24 volt circuit has 2 wires going to load.
Cut one of the wires and then connect cut wire to timer.

3) Buy Woods 59717 or Intermatic FD60 timers at Amazon.com in home improvement.
Both products have 1 year warranty, and both are strong companies.
Spring-wound timers last many years, and set-times are approximate.

I have eight appartments with AMF Paragon timer fans in the bathrooms and the switch knobs are starting to give out, can't find anything as deep to fit over the turn crank...model PSW 15 M, am I going...

PSW15 is typical spring-wound timer with metal cover and 15 minute time range.
Paragon is no longer making this timer.

However there are many spring-wound replacement timers that come with metal or plastic cover, and various time ranges.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Countdown-timer-horsepower-ratings.html

For example Intermatic FF15 with metal cover:
http://www.electricsupplyonline.com/prod/intermatic-springwound_timers/ff15mh_w005442.php
If you want 30 minute timer range, order FF30

Woods 59713 with metal cover:

If you want 30 minute time range, order 59716

I nees 15 min. timer for my Newtone bathroom heater. I live zip code 94602 Oakland, Ca. Where to find. Thanks

You need "15 minute countdown timer" for a bath fan.

1) Following page shows selection of timer types and brands:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Countdown.html
There are push button electronic types and rotary dial types.

2) Easiest to wire is mechanical spring type countdown timer, FD series.
No electronics that can be affected by 'electric noise' on fan circuit.
Intermatic spring-wound last for years without problem.
http://www.electricsupplyonline.com/prod/intermatic-springwound_timers.php

http://www.electricsupplyonline.com/prod/intermatic-springwound_timers/fd15mc_w005485.php

3) Another reliable timer is GE 15088 sold at Home Depot.
Timer has preset for 20 minutes, not 15
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/

4) Amazon sells reliable 15 minute Intermatic electronic countdown:
http://www.1000bulbs.com/product/3293/ELEC-EI200LA.html?utm_source=SmartFeedAmazonProduct

5) Timex sells 15 minute spring wound countdown timer. Lower price is probably with reason since Timex are generally sold in drug store/dollar store rather than hardware/electric outlets.
http://www.amazon.com/Timex-Minute-Springwound-Countdown-Timer/dp/B00013K69Q

6) Spring wound timers connect easily to same wires that come off old fan switch.
Old switch has 2 insulated wires, connect them to either terminal on spring wound timer.

7) Electronic timers are wired differently:
Instructions for wiring electronic timers appears on following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15088

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.

10 year old timer will not shut off any more

It's broken.
I have a FF series countdown timer on a water heater circuit that's been used for past 4 years.
The FF and FD series timers are heavy duty, spring-wound countdown timers.
I expect 10 years is a good lifespan.
You can buy a new spring-wound countdown timer at Home Depot or Lowes, but new ones are lighter weight than the good ol' Intermatic.

Grainger sells the FF60 (60 minute, metal cover)
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Spring-Wound-Timer-6X546?Pid=search
Grainger shows the FD60 (60 minute, plastic)
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Spring-Wound-Timer-1XC27?Pid=search

Grainger Intermatic timers shows a lot of FF and FD timer choices:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/intermatic/ecatalog/N-1z0r56r
There are several pages of Intermatic timers:
FF5minute thru FF12hour
FD15minute thru FD60minute

I am replacing an old intermatic model EJ341 spring wound timer with a GE15086 digital in wall timer. The old intermatic timer has two black wires from each side (I dont know which one is hot). Each of the...

GE 15086 is a 7-day programmable timer. It has more wires than spring-wound timer because clock motor runs on 120V circuit, just like ordinary electric clock. The clock on spring wound timer operated by a spring.
f7d4104.jpg

If I understand correctly, the old timer has 2 wires. One of these wires is the Hot wire ... and that wire will connect to GE timer black wire.
The other wire from old timer goes to Load ... and that wire will go to GE timer red wire.

Instructions on a lot of these timers say, it timer doesn't work, then reverse the two wires described above ... this is because timer only works when Timer black connects to Hot.

You can also turn on power and test each wire that came off old switch to bare ground wire. When tester lights up, that is Hot wire.

GE timer Green wire connects to bare ground wire.

Moving on to GE timer white wire. This wire is necessary for the clock to run. This wire connects to Neutral wire which is usually white. You can test for Neutral by testing Hot wire to each white wire in box ... when tester comes on, that is Neutral.

If you do not have a white Neutral wire, then connect GE timer white wire to bare ground wire. This is not code, but it will work fine until you hire electrician to run Neutral into box.
