Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

Have a portable kerosene heater in my shop. Thermoheat 17,000-210,000 BTU. I get an error reading on the screen E-1 says could be photo cell or spark plug. It starts then goes out with a big puff of smoke. What do you think the problem is and where do i get the parts?TU.

There should be some sort of fire eye on this, either a visually operated sensor of a thermocouple that is reading the temperature of the flame. If it senses no flame it will shut the unit off so you don't get poisened by fumes.Does it re-set when you try and start it again or do you have to push the reset button, either way it needs to be re-set before operating again. I suspect that this sensor is causing your problems. These units also have fuel pumps, this may also cause the problem, hard for me to tell without seeing the unit.

Thermoheat dtu torpedo heater reads E1 error

These are some possible causes:
1. Wrong pump pressure
2. Dirty Air Output,Air Intake or Lint Filter.
3. Dirty Fuel Filter.
4. Dirt in Nozzle.
5. Dirty Photocell Lens.
6. Photocell Assembly not
Properly installed.(Not seeing the flame)
7. Bad electrical connection between photocell and MAIN PCB assembly.
8. Defective Photocell.

If all those check out ok, then check these:
1. No fuel in tank.
2. Wrong pump pressure.
3. Carbon deposits on spark plug and/or improper gap.
4. Dirty fuel filter.
5. Dirt in Nozzle.
6. Water in fuel tank.
7. Bad electrical connection between ignitor and MAIN PCB assembly.
8. Ignitor wire is not attached to spark plug.

I would try Reddy heater parts google them and there is a whole list of places to order them from. As far as a local distributor I would not have a clue but myself if there is a Grainger store close by you I am sure that they may have parts or be able to send you in the right direction.

check to see if the photo cell is clean.to check it open the side compartment and look for the blue and white wire comming from photo cell,on the reset switch there is a white wire and a blue wire.hook these two wires to gether at the switch and try to refire the unit.if the unit keeps running the photo cell is bad and NEEDS to be changed.if the unit shuts off the safety switch is bad.

Kerosene Portable Forced Air heater comes on, runs awhile

The unit should have a fuel & air filter. Check that both are clear. Inside the burner tube, there will be a photo-cell, if the lense is dirty it will shut the flame off. The photo-cell needs to see the flame. You can carefully and gently, clean the lens with a tissue, soft cloth, or Q-tip. Please let me know how its coming along.
