I had the same problem, and nothing I tried worked. I tried every tip on the Internet, and all but gave up. I stumbled on the fix by accident, and here is the solution that worked for me. I simply held the button on the top until the screen showed the slider to power off. I shut it down and plugged it into the wall to charge. The next time I grabbed it and turned it on, everything was back to normal! Now when I plug it in to charge, I always power it off. Works great now! Resetting and everything did not work, only this did.I think most people never turn their iPod off completely, and only put it in sleep mode. Shutting it down basically reset it. Good luck hope this helps some frustrated people out there. Now I have my iPod 2gen music and everything back as it was !!! :)

I think you may have a first gen iPod touch. If you do, then that IS all that will play through the speaker and there is nothing wrong!

And you are sure the volume is all the way up? If the headphone jack thinks there is something in there the ipod touch will only play through the headphones. you can try to blow out any dust in there with a can of air and that might solve your problem.

High pitch noise from speakers

Hello there!
Sometimes High pitching its just that, static on the area, like if you are near a microwave, or near other electronic equipments, but, if the skreetching sound keep going or even if you do nothing it could be a line inside the sound card, or you need to clean the volume botton with special electrical cleaner. other that these, its contacts, or bad cap for the volume board inside.
Good Luck!

Open the unit and inspect for damage and repair as necessary. It does no good to just look at it. Likely something has fallen into the speaker and damage could be worsened if you don't repair it before trying to use it,

Sony Ericsson W890i ringtone and alarm doesnt make noise walkman works.

The front speaker needs replacing. Songs/MP3's are played through the back speakers, thats why you can hear them when you play them individually.

Ive been quoted around £50 from an online mobile phone repair centre to replace it.

Needless to say, Ive sent my phone back for a refund, and i wont be buying this phone again.

Loud and strange noises

The built-in speaker amp or the volume switch may be going bad on you. A quick test is to disconnect the speaker set and replace it with a headphone or another working speaker set. If it behaves normally then the problem is in your original speakers, if not then you may have software driver issues or less likely an issue with the sound card. Let us know what you find out.
