HP Designjet 5500 - Black not printing

In Sept last year we replace our carriage assembly and line sensor together with pen carriage, the colour black will not print, when you do a printhead alignment, it plots the other colours except black. I looked at the pen station and found that the tube in which the colour black feeds thru is clear meaning that no black is going thru. Opened the cover at the back and checked the tubes, all the colours seem to be running from there but there is a blockage somewhere along the line. The other colours on the pen station tubes is visible except for the black.

What can i do and why isn't there ink running thru that tube

There is a blockage and you need to replace your tube assembly. and maybe your APS.

T1100 unable to detect media edge. replaced line sensor, carriage PCA. Cannot calibrate line sensor. Panel reads calibrate sensor to black but does not print pattern and says "return error: 2".

I have seen this error occur when the carriage does not move smoothly left to right...are the shafts properly lubricated and the carriage belt in good shape (not frayed or teeth missing)?

Also there are special paper considerations for the calibration to work...Bright White Inkjet Paper is recommended., not just plain paper.

I have problem with my 5500 hp: check printhead path 2

The most common cause of the Check Print Head Path Error 2 is a worn out carriage belt. Open the top cover and locate the carriage belt. It is the long thin belt that extends the full length of the plotter. Use a light and look under the belt for debris that looks like pencil erasure crumbs. If the crumbs are there, the belt is disintegrating and needs to be replaced. See:

I am getting an 060309 error code on a HP DesignJet 650. What do I need to have repaired?

Probable cause:
The optical sensor on the carriage has
failed to locate lines drawn during the
pen calibration routine. Reduce the
ambient light. If the media is not clean
and reflective, change the media. If
the lines are faint, replace the pens.
Clean lenses. Replace LED. Use the
Edge detect test, found in the service
menu, to help troubleshoot.

The trailing cable is probably runing the printhead. Try replacing the printhead and trailing cable together. Parts available at:

HP designjet 750c Plus smears and prints a lot of black in everywhere

If you are sure your cartridge is not leaking, ie a refilled unit then it sounds like your waste tank is full. This should be cleaned out when a service is done on the machine. Another problem could be the wiper on the black cartridge is not working. Bottom line if its not the cartridge you will need tech support to help.

Ink Cartridge problem? (HP designjet 5500 ps 42")

you are correct, this is usually caused by the contacts going bad on the carriage assembly. try cleaning the contacts, if this does not help, than you need to replace the carriage assembly. hope this helped.

more than likely the slot in your carriage assembly is faulty. try cleaning the contacts on the carriage assembly if that doesn't help, than more than likely you need to replace the carriage assembly and also the trailing cables. if you are going to keep this printer for awhile than you should also replace the carriage belt. if you can find a certified hp repair person, the cost should be around $500-600.
