With your computer on and the SD Flashdrive fitted correct side UP in the USB port, go to 'My Computer' on the desktop and select the flash drive. The computer will ask you what function you want to perform on the drive and you must select 'format.' You did not say what kind of operating system you are using or I could give you more information. Let me know what happens,
Myself have a Cruzer Contour (4GB) also, I happen to meet this error when use it on one of my client notebook. It seems that a antivirus/anti-malwares software blocking the "Autorun" program been execute, in order to prevent wide spread viruses came from pen drive information sharing.
(Sorry.... cannot recall which antivirus software...)
Some how the Sandisk Cruzer is carrying a build in program called "U3 Luanchpad", which also happen to using "Autorun" approach. Very high chances you might caught in this situation.
Please perform a virus/malwares scan on the thumbdrive. if USB happen to be found nothing related to the "Autorun" after scan, and able to use on other PC/NB environment (which not the same anti-virus amd anti-malwares been used). It will be pretty sure the problem lies on the software I mentioned in your PC/NB.
Your system will automatically recognize your sandisk and will automatically install the drivers for it (this will show on the time taskbar located at the lower right side of the screen). After successfully loading the drivers you can now access your usb drive by going to My computer and should have the drive letter after your cd/dvd drive.
The filesystem appears to be corrupted. Try right-clicking the drive's icon, going to Properties, Tools and Check Disk. If that doesn't help the partition that holds the data may be unreadable, and if that happens try asking a data recovery service if the data is important.
Right click on my computer and click manage. Now on left side please select Device manager and look on the right side if you have any device that says "Unknow Device" or any device that is showing an Exclaimation Mark. If any of this exists then right click on that and uninstall. After this unplug your Flash drive and restart your computer and try inserting flash drive if it works or not. If not, again go to device manager and expand an option that says "Disc Drives". Please check if it shows anything related to your Cruzer Flash Drive. If it's there, then go to Disc Management that will be there on left side of this same window. There, you need to look for your Removable disc and right click on it and click change drive letter. Now choose a different drive letter preferable one of the last alphabets like Z. After this click OK and now try going to my computer to check if it appears or not. Moreover, if none of these solutions work please get back to me with some more info like if you have U3 on your Cruzer that comes preinstalled on your flash drive and the version of your OS.
