It might not be the reading the OS from the CD. The CD would either be corrupted, scratched or dirty. Try using a differnt CD, and i m sure it would work.

In order to change the boot drive you have to change the boot settings in BIOS, or sometimes you can get a separate boot menu which allows you to change this setting on a one-off basis. During the boot sequence you need to press the "F12" button during the POST testing to bring up the boot menu if one is available, otherwise you need to press the "Del" or "F2" button during the POST process to bring up the Bios screens. Navigate to the BOOT option and alter the boot sequence, save the settings, exit BIOS and reboot.

Linux mint 12 won't boot from CD

Restart your computer, press repetedly a key to enter BIOS, normally Del, go to Advanced BIOS Features probably and change to boot primarly from CD/DVD (1st Boot Device CD/DVD , or something like that), save and exit BIOS, and restart your computer with Linux Mint CD inside. Be aware that if you make wrong changes in BIOS, you could damage your computer.

How to make CD Rom run as BOOT? please key in

Go into the BIOS and change the boot startup device order. Make the CD the first boot device and the hard disk the second boot device.
If you do not wish to change the BIOS you may select the CD drive as an alternate boot device by pressing F10 or F!2 as the laptop boots up to bring up a list of devices to want to boot from, select the CD drive and the follow the screen prompt.

How to put a os on my aspire computer

1. Press f12 as soon as the laptop starts up. This should give you a menu which allows you to select a temporary boot device, you'll need to select your cd/dvd drive.
2. Make sure the os disc is in there, and when it says 'press any key to boot from disc', press a key.
3. Follow on screen instructions.

If F12 doesn't bring up a boot menu, then you'll need to go into the bios. You do this by pressing F1, F2 or del usually, it varies between computers. For instance I have an iBM laptop and I have to press the thinkvantage button to interupt normal startup and then select either F1 for the bios or f12 for the boot menu. But whatever you have to press, it should tell you.

Once you're in the bios then you should be able to find an option to enable a boot menu, enable it, and once you've saved and exited the bios proceed from step 1.

If you can't find a boot menu option, then you will be able to find an option to change the boot order, you'll need to change it so that your cd/dvd drive is at the top. Once that's done save and exit, then proceed from step 2. In this case, once the os has finished installing, you may want to go back into the bios and put your hard drive back to the top of the boot order, this isn't necessary but if you don't then the laptop will give you the option of booting from cd/dvd every time, thus slowing the overall startup time.

My system is not giving option of booting from cd room

You can either change the boot order by going into the bios and setting the cd as the first option or by pressing F12 as the computer boots to bring up Dell's boot order menu.

My dell optiplex does not boot and when i try to reinstall it wont boot from cd

I wonder what error message you're getting.
Click here to enter your service tag and to find out if your PC is under warranty. If it is then call Dell and your're good to go.
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?c=us&l=en&s=gen
Run the on-board diagnostics: (essentially F12)
http://www.mss.net/Links/DellDocs/OptiGX260/UserGuide/advtshoo.htm
If it's not making it to the Windows splash screen then this should lead you in the right direction. If you have decided to reinstall and are booting with the OS CD-Rom, but it's not booting you will need to adjust the boot order to include the CD-Rom in the BIOS.
