What operating system are you running? What is the specifics on the printer?
Open the document in your editor (Word etc) Then hit ctrl+p (this means to hit the Ctrl key and the p key at the same time) you get a pop box Select the Properties box located in the upper right hand side of the box Select the Effects tab Check the Fit To Page check box and select the paper size you want

"Paper Jam" issues are common with printers. They most often occur right after there has been a paper jam. Most people (not necessarily YOU), don't take the time to read how to properly clear a paper jam in their printers and often yank the jammed sheets backward thru the paper tray. Most times you should remove the cover in the back and pull the jam FORWARD out the rear, or if the jam made it close to the output tray, then FORWARD thru to the output tray. Pull sheets backward can cause two issues. It makes tearing the paper easier. This can result in tiny pieces being caught in places where the printer detect them as a jam. The other issue is that pulling backward can damage the feed rollers that pull the paper into the machine, as well as the mechanical sensors that detect paper jams. If you cannot find ANY shards of paper in the machine, you may have printer damage that results in the jam indication.
In most systems, you have at least two possibilities to alter output to the printer. Assuming you have installed the printer driver for your printer and version of the operating system, the first place to look is whatever document program you have and it is likely that you have some basic version of Microsoft Word. Opening Word to start a new file, click on 'File' on the upper left and choose 'New File.'Look on the new window for a selection of 'Document' and 'Template;' choose the latter. This will open a page and name it 'Template 1.' You can set whatever margins you want and also settings for your default (favorite) font, font size, and its appearance.Saving this when finished, will create a default format called 'normal.dot' so that any time you open a new document file, these settings will apply. You can set up a number of templates for different purposes and saving them will create a file extension of '.dot' with a file name of your choosing. The second place you can influence the printer is via the printer driver settings itself but it isn't possible to give you detailed advice on this since each mfr. provides different degrees of flexibility.Selecting the printer through the 'Start' menu, then 'Printers' (may also include 'Faxes'), look for your printer's name and model which should be there if the printer has been installed on your system.Right-clicking on the printer icon and selecting 'Properties' will give you access to the settings provided by the printer manufacturer.
Check that the line that you are drawing fits "between" the LEFT and RIGHT margins that you have defined for the document.
Click Control Panel
Select the HP printer
Right-mouse-click the printer
Check that the "paper-size" that you have selected matches the size of the paper loaded into the printer.
go to start / control panel / printers and faxes / your default printer properties / and then printing preferences / and go to each tab and set it to default ....and if that doesnt work.....unplug and turn off printer and uninstall all drivers from uninstall or add remove program and the reinstall the drivers ...it should work
