If you have some problems with your iphone like it wont turn on or it wont react even though you tried all these stuff written above....there is the last possibility before you have to go to an apple store....and hope that they fix or replace it!
you have to bring your phone to the DFU modus...for it follow the next steps:
start itunes and plug-in your iphone even if it is turn off or it just shows the apple logo....
further press down the power button for about 3 second,
then press the home button WITHOUT release the power button and hold both simultaneous at least 15 second....
finally release the power button and continue hold the home button for about 30 seconds...
now the iphone should be detected by itunes. it ought to recommend to restore it to the factory defaults! after that you iphone should works correct again...
hope my instructions are useful and let me know if it works on ur iphones!

Unplug your iphone from your pc
leave the cable in the iphone
start Itunes (leave the phone unpluged from the pc for now)
Hold down the power button and the home button until your screen goes blank
release the power button but keep holding the home button and connect your iphone back to your pc
keep the home button held for 20-30 seconds
Itunes will see your phone
restore with itunes

I finally took my iPhone into the Apple store. It took them 15 seconds to determine that it was a hardware problem and replaced the phone.
They confirmed this by holding down both the button on the top (power) and the button on the front of the phone for 15 seconds. When nothing happened, they plugged it into a working USB connector to a MacBook and when that did nothing, they replaced the phone.

I just had the same problem.
My phone died for no reason and would come on.
First held down the power buttons for 40 seconds. - no luck
Second tried holding down the power and home buttons for 20 seconds - Still no luck
Tried holding the home button for 30 seconds and
pluging the usb cord in to the phone end while holding the home button - still nothing
LAST out of desperation, i combined all three, I held the power and home buttons for 40 seconds or so and pluged in the usb to the phone while holding both buttons. Fifteen seconds later, to my shock and relief, I was looking at an apple logo.

I had the same problem
and i tried holding down the power button and that did not work.
then i read a bunch of these comments and saw people trying the power button and the home button at the same time.
i tried this and held it down for about 5 seconds and got nothing.
i was starting to get really frustrated.
then i pressed them again angrily and held them for about 20 seconds.
and the start up screen with the apple came up.
i was really happy.
and it took a while for it to actually turn on but it did.
i was relieved.
now it is working.
hopefully this will not happen again and i hope that apple or att will fix this because i do not want a scare like that again.
after all my phone is only about a month old.

this happened to me, past 2 weeks i couldnt use my phone but i found a solution,
plug your usb into your pc, but dont plug it into your iphone.
turn off your iphone
press and hold the home button on iphone, then plug in the usb.
hold it until the "connect to itunes" comes up.
connect to itunes, then restore!! :)

Right top button on iphone and home button on the face of the phone. Hold BOTH down and it will work
Posted on Jul 21, 2009
I tried this and it worked:
try resetting it by pressing and hold the Sleep/Wake button (on the top right of the unit) and the Home button (circular button on the iPhone?s face) simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Mine has been not turning on for the past two days. I was freaking out because when i plugged it into itunes it said it was charging so i knew it was not dead. I got on here to see what the problem was. It probably just froze. I held down the power/sleep button and the home button at the same time. Keep holding it for no more than a minute and it the apple logo should appear and it will stay the apple logo for a few minutes before going to your slide screen. it works and it if doesnt then thats nots whats wrong with your iphone/itouch

SOLUTION #18 helped

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
After spending numerous hours of tweaking with my iPhone 2G, which i unlocked and jailbroke myself, i figured out a way to fix it. My phone would not tun on, after i had to reboot it from downloading an app. like the rest of you, all i got was the apple logo, and after a few seconds, would turn off. iTunes would also not recognize my phone and i could not charge it.
Here is the solution. Get your hands on an iHome, or in my case i used the Sony version of an iHome. im sure any speaker system that charges your iPhone will work. Put your iPhone on the dock. you should see the apple symbol pop up. at this time, hold the power button and menu button for 10-15 seconds until it has turned off and turned back on, when you see the apple logo for the second time, let go of the power button, and keep your finger on the home button, the connect to iTunes screen should appear. LEAVE THE iPHONE IN THE iHOME!!! at the point, go to your computer/laptop. hard reboot it, by holding down the power button. then holding down again to turn on. take your usb cable and make sure it is NOT plugged into the computer. when you computer is at the desktop screen, take out your iPhone and in a timely manner, plug the usb cable into the iPhone, and then plug the other end into your Computer (in that order). Your computer will then recognize your iPhone, and open iTunes.
The good news is: You have turned on your iPhone!
The bad news is: You have to restore your iPhone to get it to work, which means reactivating it. so you will have to reunlock and rejailbreak it again. so if youre sim card is not on the iPhone plan, then youre only half way there.
By the way, i unlocked and jailbroke my iphone using this video

My phone was fully charged and functional and five minutes later juts shut down.
Solution: Press the top power button and circular home button at the same time for about 15 seconds.
Posted on Apr 16, 2010
None of the others worked for me but I plugged the iphone into USB on the computer and held both buttons for maybe a minute until the USB-itunes logo appeared on the screen and the PC detected the phone. Itunes then asked me to restore the phone as there was a software problem. It now works fine
Posted on Feb 22, 2010
Ive tried charging and holding both buttons but nothing that means it is a hardware problem or the motherboard

After having the same problem, I followed some of the postings' advice. What worked : plugging in iphone to mac with USB cable, then after 10 min, pushing home and reset button (upper top) at the same time for 15 seconds (doing this before connecting to mac with USB cable did not work even though the phone's battery is not dead).

Ok, so i had this problem and now it's SOLVED!
For some time now, after i have upgraded my Iphone 2G to the 2.2.1 version, my iphone kept giving me an error that goes something like "this accessory is not made to work with iphone"...
After some 2-3 weeks of this error at least once a day, at some moment i forgot to charge my iphone and the battery went empty after night. In the morning it have noticed it can't charge, can't reset, can't go into DFU, etc. I have tried all the tricks found on numerous forums but nothing.
What i did to solve this problem is:
1. I have opened my iphone using a cutter and a screwdriver. You can find info on how to open your iphone on google.
2. i took out the batery nicely cutting the three wires at the midle (black=minus, red=plus, white=ground).
3. Following the instructions at
i took two wires from the usb of my computer (V BUS (5V) and Ground) and joined them with the wires from the battery of my Iphone. (USB 5V+ to Battery plus / USB Ground to battery minus). You could use i guess any charger that outputs DC 5V, but i didn't had any in hand.
4. I left the battery charging for about two hours.
5. I deconected the batery from the usb "charger" and joined the wires back on the Iphone, as they first were. ! be carefully at the exact order of the wires, and don't short-chircuit the wires together or touch the Iphone board with them. Isolate them with duct tape or whatever you have handy. (i have used paper :) i know ... )
6. I put the Iphone back together.
7. My Iphone booted after pressing the upper right power button at first try. It can charge and is detected by the computer, i can restart it, DFU, whatever.
8. I have upgraded my Iphone to 3.0 as the problem seemed to be related to some update/unlock procedure for 2.2.1.
In the past 3 days my Iphone haven't complained about anything, no errors, no "this accessory is not made to work with iphone", it seem to work just fine.
BE VERRY CAREFOULY if you decide to do this, but I think it is worth a try as otherwise your Iphone will remain a paper weight anyway.
sory for my bad english

The home and power button technique worked for me! Thanks everybody!
my iPhone was low on charge last night so I left it charging alll night, the morning after it was dead and no buttons were doing anything on it. So I googled "my iPhone won't turn on anymore" and found the solution, I was already thinking of having to buy a new one!

Plugging it to laptop + Holding Both buttons (i think it was even less that 10 sec) did it for me ... thank god it came back to where it died off for no apparent reason ... didnt have to hard reset to factory defaults thus loosing all those nice pics / vids i hadent synched with Itunes for a while ... fiou! that was close! (phone is 2 month old)

Your iphone's battery drained completely. there are a couple ways to get past this, but they aren't always guaranteed to work.
attach the iphone to your computer using a separate cord. this will rule out it just being the charger itself that's defective
try holding down the sleep/wake button for ten seconds, followed by holding down the home button for thirty seconds after releasing the sleep/wake button, this usually forces the iphone to wake up
time for a reset!
press and hold the sleep/wake button + Home button for thirty seconds at the same time. this should run a factory reset on your phone. Yeah, it's a pain in the *** trying to get all of your old settings back, but it's better than paying for a new phone AND getting your old settings back.
Still no dice?
try to replace the battery on your own. you'll need a paperclip (remove the sim tray) a case opener tool (guitar picks work fine) and a #00 phillips screwdriver. flatheads occasionally work too. you can find further instructions easily if you look up Iphone takeapart or iphone battery replacement. doing this WILL void your warranty though. If you stil have a warranty and none of the above steps fixed it, definitely take it into apple.
if all else fails...
sell your iphone on ebay. depending on the model and the memory, you should be able to fetch a hundred bucks or so at least for it
Sell it on ebay

Well same thing happened to me but the solution was much simpler i tried doing everything but with the iphone plugged on to the charger...nothing happened...after charging it a few seconds, i just had to unplug the cord from the charger but leave the iphone plugged on to the cord and it turned on immidietly...

It appears my iphone only does this "turn off and not charge" thing when I use to the camera for more than 5 or 10 minutes.
The holding down of both butons fixed turns it back on and didnt affect the apps or data i have stored on my iphone.

This one worked for me: After trying all the above to no avail...
1. What do I have? A month old 3GS.
2. What happened? I completely drained my battery.
3. As a result? My iPhone wouldn't start. In the screen I just get a picture of an empty battery (filled with a tiny red line) and underneath that a bolt sign. (BTW if the iPhone isn't connected it shows the same battery but with a blinking red line and underneath it also a plug.
4. How did I manage it to work? Using the above described reset method: Hold the upper button and the home one. That didn't work. Then I connected it to iTunes. That didn't work either for 4/5 times. Then it suddenlu gave me the restore screen and iTunes asked me to restore my device. I really didn't want to loose all data, so I did the reset again... now it gave me the apple logo! And booted... and worked!!!!

I have had this problem with the 4! The battery might be going bad! I charged mine for a while then held both home and lock button and it worked for me!
Posted on Nov 26, 2014
I held both the home button and the power button for approximately 15 seconds and the apple logo appeared. About a minute or two later my phone came on. I will never let it die again!

I had the same issue. My iPhone wouldn't switch on and it is only a month old.
I too was freaking out but did a google search on how to fix it and so I held down both the home and the power on key and it worked and now my iphone is working again but it was pretty scary.
Posted on May 02, 2010
Did u get it fixed yet? Try holding down the home button and power button for 10 sec. and c if that resets it. If that doesn't work try plugging it into itunes and c if that will work. You might have to restore it. If that doesn't work and u have not jailbroken it call either at&t or apple and get it replaced. You have a 1 year warrenty unless u jailbroke it.

Hold the power and home key for about 5-20 seconds. Though many solutions say just the power, it didn't work for me. My phone died and then I charged it full and looked at a picture, put it in my pocket. When I go to check it, the screen is black and it's unresponsive... so, initially I freak out, but these helped. So, home key and power together should be your solution, thank god. Haha.

Ok then guys, i had a completely unresponsive iphone for over a month. i pulled it out of the draw ready to sell it. heres what I did to get it to power so that i could reset.
1. Unscrew iphone screws at bottom.
2. Get a suction cup (mine was off sat nav holder) and the front of the phone will easily come up.
3. All wires are numbered, take out numbers 1, 2 and 4. number 3 is a pain in the arse and is not worth removing because it is only for the speaker. Ive learnt the hard way and broke the connection and now only have speakerphone to rely on.
4. Put them al back together (they only push on)
5. Do the reset thingy ( hold top and bottom buttons for 10 seconds) and do this twice.
Hey it worked for me guys and I've bought a second iphone to replace the one ive now got working and i wouldn't be afraid to open the phone, if you have no warranty/insurance you have nothing to loose, and if you do have warranty/insurance then you would just send the phone back to be replaced wouldn't you?
let me know if this works for you

The first tip worked for me too, just try resetting it... Here\'s the logic: When your iPhone dies, the internal RAM shuts down after the reserve battery power is used. This in turn sleeps the motherboard, which is why it appears dead. Resetting the RAM on the motherboard will juice the very small amount of energy out of the battery to re-boot the motherboard. If resetting your iPhone doesn\'t work for you at first. Lay it in your cradle for approx. 10 minutes then try resetting. Although it doesn\'t appear so, you will actually be charging the battery, just without waking the motherboard.

I've shared some instructions below which is work on any iPhone or iPad boot up and work properly. If they don't, your device should have a h/w issue that prevent it from booting.
1. Charge with wall Charger - And Wait
2. Hold Power + Home to Perform a Hard Reset
3. Restore the iOS Operating System With iTunes (In this case you see a error instead of logo)
If unable to do by own, make a call @ +1 (844) 355-5111 (Toll-Free) number for instant tech help.

Reset the phone by pressing home and start button
Posted on Sep 03, 2015
It can be either due to:
1. iphone charger issue
2. iphone charging spot issue
3. iphone battery issue
first of all check from your friends if your charger works fine on their iphone, if no then try charging with the same charger and at same location where they're charging it to see if something changes.
There can be a huge list of issues for which iphone may not charge, you can find that at: http://nabtron.com/iphone-not-charging-finally-solved/1820/
However usually it's the charger issue or the charging port one imho.

P.S. take it in if nothing works!!!

My iphone has done this twice now and each time it eventually turns on. the first time i kept pressing the silver button on the top over and over really fast and it turned on.. the second time i held down the home button and the one on top until the screen turned on, and it did. just hold the two buttons down together and keep them down until the apple appears.
Posted on Jan 23, 2011
If you get no reaction at all, you probably have broken dock connector or broken logic board. Did you try a hard reset (on/off button and menu button together for 5sec.) If that fails, Bring it to the apple store to see if you geta replacement through them. If you can't, there are third party iPhone repair services, that will replace the broken parts for cheap. Also, I found an DYI iphone repair guide, so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is available on ebay.

This usualy happens when you have replaced your lcd on the iphone,
the phone gets stuck is lock mode and cant recover from it.
the fix is easy.
if you replaced your lcd just pop the charging cable it and press the power button and the home key together for about 3 seconds then release power "keeping the home button pressed still" after a further 2 seconds release.
what this actualy does is it starts to send the phone into recovery mode but because the buttons arnt pressed long enough it will force a logic board restart and therefore kicking it out the lock mode making your phone working again.

I read a solution online on how to get your iphone to turn back on anit worked . Toggle the switch above the volume on the swided back and forth twice then push the on button on top and the click button on the bottom at the same time, hold for about 5 seconds and the Apple icon will come on, followed by the menu screen.

My iphone ran out of battery and then would not charge or turn on. So here is how I fixed my iPhone when it refused to turn on:
As everyone has stated, push down the slim silver on/off button on the top right of the phone and the circle home button on the bottom front of the phone (pretty much the only two buttons on the phone) simultaneously until the apple logo appears on the screen (about 10 sec).
That's it and your back in business, and I did not lose any information (contacts, emails etc.)

If your phone is "hacked" or "jail broken" where its been unlocked by a dodgey market stall and not by your network then if your hardware pops your stuffed cause your phone is classed as void warrenty, try turning off all ur firewalls / antiviruses before u update your phone and restore your phone as new thru itunes

Solution #2 worked awesome. In the middle of the night I went to check the time and my phone wouldn't respond at all. The battery was fully charged when I went to sleep, so I knew it couldn't be a charging issue. I know it could not have been a damage issue either because I have had it six months and have taken better care of it than I have myself....not a single blemish on it. After the initial freak out, I calmed down and got on the internet, and guess what, the people on here actually helped. Hold down the power button (top right) and the home button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and you'll get the silver apple; then you are safe. Weird though, I still can't figure out what would have caused the phone to turn off in the first place, bu it works now

Holding the two buttons at the same time until the APPLE appears worked like a charm.....I thought I was going to have a meltdown when my phone just all of the sudden shut down! THANKS A MILLION for the solution!

Open up iTunes, connect the iPhone. Hold down the power button for 3 seconds, hold both power button and home button for 10 seconds, release power button while still holding down the home button. This puts your iDevice into DFU mode, so it can be restored using iTunes.

Let your Iphone cool down then plug it in to charge. Let the Iphone has charge for a decent amount of time. if the iphone still won't turn on hold down the home and power buttons at the same time until the apple logo shows up on the screen, this will force a restart.
If the iphone has charged and after a minute of holding the home and power buttons the logo still hasn't shown up take the iphone to the genius bar.

You might need to do a hard reset or you could look up on youtube how to get pass the itune logo on an iphone

iPhone can lockup and stop working or just show the Apple symbol and
not do anything else. But panic not, normally an app has caused the
phone to crash and it needs to be restarted.
Here’s how you do it:
Sometimes just pressing and holding the home button for about 5 seconds, can help. But if not try this:
Press and hold the iPhone’s Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for several seconds, or until you see the apple logo on the screen.

You may need to press and hold the sleep button. If not try to treat it like an ipod. Hold the center button at the bottom and the top one at the same time. Should reboot.

If you are comfortable with opening devices you can take a multimeter to the battery. If the phone doesn't turn on if you battery has 3.7V or more you have a logic board issue. Oh, did you do a hard reset yet? Press menu and sleep/wake button together for 5 sec. If after all revival attempts you still don't get it to turn on It's usually an issue with the logic board, so ultimately if you want to resolve it, the logic board needs to be replaced. There are iPhone Repair guides that show you how.

This means the device was reset to factory settings. You need to connect the device to iTunes. Go to a Mac or PC with iTunes, start iTunes and connect iPhone to the Mac/PC and follow on-screen directions. You will need to reestablish your iTunes account to the iPhone for apps and music (assuming you use iPhone for apps and music). If you have only download apps/music to iPhone and never performed a sync/backup to iTunes (really bad idea, BTW), I would suggest making an appointment at apple.com with the Genius bar at a local Apple store.

Connect it to iTunes, you might need to activate it, or restore it.

Just hold the menu button and the turn off button
works for me :)

Press the menu button and hold it. Then plug in the USB cord connected to the computer. Your iPhone will now boot into recovery mode. It should connect and let you restore it. after that you should be be fine. If not, and if Apple doesn't replace it for you, you can find a new logic board at iPhone 3GS Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to put in the part at iPhone Repair Guide.

I'm not sure if you have damage, bad chipset, or if your iphone is "bricked". google "wonder how to", on search tab"fix your bricked iphone" it might be worth a try. look around on the web site, you may find another way. hope this helps.

What you can do is hold the power On/Off button + Home button at the same time. Your iphone will reboot. When you see the apple logo, quickly let go the power On/Off button. If you want to jailbreak your iphone, go to www.blackra1n.com and download the jailbreaking tool.
Follow these easy steps below...
- Turn off your iphone
- Run the jailbreaking tool
- Turn on your iphone
- The jailbreaking tool will everything by itself.
- If you want to unlock your iphone after it is jailbroken, hit the blackrain icon and select install Cydia and unlock with Blackrain.

You may have damaged it when it was dropped. If the restore won't work then it's going to be a hardware problem.
If your lucky it might just be a ribbon cable that has come out of it's socket. If you have the first gen iPhone (2g) i wouldn't bother opening it up and it's a nightmare. But if you have a iPhone 3g then you could open it and check the cables.
Use this video as your guide to open it

Allrght .. when the battery dies out, the iphone needs to be charged for atleast 10-20 minutes before even the charging indication comes on.. for the first 10-20 minutes u wun't even know if it is charging or not.. but after 20 minutes if u switch it on ,, it will come on and then it will show charging..
if this doesn't help , pls take it to the place where u bought it from and have them look at it..

Try using another cable or charger. A damaged charger or cable could cause it not to charge.
Otherwise, contact apple or apple store for repair.
