I have the same problem (iPhone is completely dead and when I connect to my system, doesn't appear to be charging, doesn't open iTunes, nothing).  When I try the reset (pushing both buttons at once), still doesn't turn on, even after being plugged into my USB port for an hour.  Any ideas?

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2007

I have tried all the suggested solutions to turn on my Iphone but have not had any success. My battery was fully charged and for some reason registered no service. I turn the phone off by holding down the top button and slid the power off slide. Now the phone will not turn back on regardless if I do a hard reset of plug it into the cradle. Help

I have the exact same problem. My iPhone's screen went green when I watched a YouTube video so I did a hard reset (home+power) and now it won't turn on.
I have tried to do more hard resets in hope that it'll turn on again, and I'll continue to do that.
I don't live in America but if this doesn't work I'll have to ship it back to my friend that bought mine there and ask her to go to the store and get a new one for me.
Mine is hacked but since the phone won't turn on or show up in iTunes I don't think the guys in the Apple store will ever find out, so hopefully I'll get a new phone.

  • dynastykang Mar 13, 2008

My problem is pretty much the same as all stated here with just one difference... Battery died, I put it on charger walked away, came back couple hours later picked it off of the charger (dock) and nothing happens. When plugged into the back of my Imac, nothing happens, When dock is plugged into power outlet and iphone is in dock it gets power, but not plugged into wall and out of dock no power. Also have a dual cable, 1 part goes into back of dock or iphone and splits into 2 cables, 1 is standard USB 2.0 and other is 1394 IEEE when both are plugged into the back of computer and other end in iPhone or dock iPhone gets power as well as acknowledged by itunes, IEEE cable taken out and no power... I dont understand does anyone have a clue??? Thanks

The battery was low, so I plugged it in - the screen went all white and wouldn't respond.

I didn't think to restart - so I let the battery run down.

It never started again since. I can't charge it, its not detected in iTunes. NOTHING!

i dropped it on the floor of a convenient store then a little while later I was texting and the screen just went white and then green and it has been dead ever since. I tried resetting it with the home/power button hold that didn't work. It wont respond whenever I charge with the dock/wall/computer.

I asked a co-worker at work if i could use their ipod charger to charge my IPHONE, i plugged the usb into the computer and the other connector to my phone....... took a while to show that it was charging about 1 minute...... after unplugging the charger from the IPHONE...... the menu button had stopped working!!!!!...... i could barley do anything....... so i turned the phone off. after being turned on , a message displayed on the screen stated..... THIS FEATURE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE IPHONE..... if you wish to try and use this feature try putting the phone on airplane mode.NOTE.... you wont receive any calls. YES OR NO..... i clicked no, button still wasn't working...I then tried to put the phone into restore mode, but all it did (since the menu button didn't work) the phone would just shut off. I then would have to turn it back on and get the same message displayed. I WAS PISSED.... after work as i was driving home i plugged the phone into my car charger which actually was the correct wire that came with my IPHONE, and the light would turn off on the cigarette lighter plug..... When i arrived home i plugged the usb into MY computer, with MY charging wire..... IT TURNED MY COMPUTER OFF when i plugged the usb in.... i unplugged it quick... THE COMPUTER TURNS BACK ON.... i replugged it.... OFF GOES COMPUTER..... unplugged it quick again... BACK ON GOES THE COMPUTER.....

WTF IS GOING ON, CAN PLEASE RESPOND AND HELP ME WITH A SOLUTION!!!!!

The application started and after a while said that it can not unlock the phone(the phone was already unlocked by the way). It then prompted me to restart the phone but it went completely black and I can get it back on. There is no response!

  • str8mac1979 Jul 27, 2008

I was charging my iphone with my wall charger over night, when I went to unplug it in the morning I noticed it was hot as hell. I immediately unplugged it and tried turning it on and got nothing, so after letting it cool off I replugged it in to the wall charger and suddenly seen the apple logo come up however that's all that happens.... I've got the 4gig, let me know as soon as you have the solution.

  • Whtamaroon Oct 12, 2008

Iphone was charged. Took it out to make a call and couldn't wake
it up. Holding the two buttons at the same time worked but now it's
telling me to plug it into itunes. When I did it says I have to restore it.
It's a hacked 1st gen. should I hit restore or will I mess it up and really
    lock myself out?

  • Anonymous Oct 13, 2008

i dropped my iphone on my foot, but it had a cover and didn't even hit the ground. after about 10 minutes, i tried to "slide to unlock" the iphone and it wouldn't work, as if the touch feature were broken. then, the whole screen turned black. i went home and connected it to my wall charger and nothing happened so then i plugged it into my mac and itunes recognized it. after deleting some files from it (just in case it was over-loaded), i pressed the button on the top and on the face of the phone to remove it from itunes. i pulled the wire out of the phone and computer and the phone apple symbol showed up, just like when you first turn it on. it took a minute to load up and was fine.

if nothing else works, send it in to apple or your carrier or wherever you got it from and they'll try to fix it and if not possible, they'll send you a knew one.
btw, my phone was not a hacked one.

    hope this helps!

i installed some applications and came back to main screen by pressing home button my iphone was busy to processing.after a long time i restarted it by pressing home button and power button then iphone had restarted and showing apple but not going on.i keep start my iphone till bettery dead.

  • 4thandLast Oct 20, 2008

My iPhone wouldn't turn on either - I pressed both buttons for 10 seconds and it came back on.

  • wagnerl715 Oct 23, 2008

I had the same problem. My iPhone just would not turn on. I had tried the resetting it by holding just the main on button, but that didn't work. And then I tried holding the main button and the other push button at the same time for 10 seconds. Nothing happened; so then I tried pushing the main on button again and holding it and it came on! so there is something to holding both buttons at the same time. I also had mine plugged in to charge for 20 mins or so, and I don't believe the battery was dead to begin with. And now that it has come back on, it shows it has a full battery. Weird!!!

    Thanks for the tip!

Here is my problem with my iPhone. I Had purchase an iPhNone through craigslist. I used my phone for almost one year, then finally it went dead then the apple loge started to show now wont turn on. the only way to turn ti back on is to charge it so while its charging you can turn it on and use it then it will work fine but when it goes to sleep mode the apple logo shows again then u cant turn it on again. so i have to keep charging to turn it on.... i hade calle Apple and they only to find out is to send it to us. so i went to the us and brought it to the Apple store in seattle. The tech staff looked at it and said its been on the water, which it NEVER was in the water and he said they cant fix it and plus since its been use the canada and its been unluck they cant do anything with it..... pls pls pls need some advise...

  • jacostamd Dec 20, 2008

My 2 months iPhone, purchased from ATT had a similar problems this morning. I let it charge overnight, so it was charged, I turn it on this morning and briefly showed me the screen to unlock, but immediately after it went dead. I came to this website and saw the tip of holding down the sleep and home buttons for 10 seconds and I did and it did work. However, here is the caveat, I did it before I plugged my iphone in my computer and the trick did not work. I then plug the iphone to my computer and it did open iTunes and it did a full back up of the phone. Only after that, pressing both buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds recover the functionality. This is something for our Apple people to look into since my phone is 2 months old, it was fully charged and it just went dead for not apparent reasons (no drops, no heating up, no nothing). Hope that helps guys. jacostamd@yahoo.com

i need help when i open my iphone it opens to the apple logo and then nothing happens ive tried resting and recgharging it many time i even let the battery die out and charge it again yet when i open it it open to the apple logo and it seems to freeze any solutions?

  • suejohnson60 Mar 19, 2009

Ok I've read through all the solutions on this page and tried them all but nothing has worked for me so far. I purchased an iphone for me 17 year old for his birthday (I know...I know..stupid!). I have one, too and have had to use the solution of holding down the home and off switch a couple of times so I am already familiar with that trick. Well his phone won't turn on or charge at all. Screen is completely black. Tried all the tricks on this website and nothing worked so took it to Apple. Of course they stuck that light in the phone and saw that the phone had been exposed to moisture. So then I tried the trick of leaving in a bag of white rice for a couple of days which has worked for people who have sent their iphone though the wash cycle for cripes sake. Still no power up...no charging...black screen. Any other ideas anyone? I'm not buying another phone and it makes me sick that this one is not turning on after only 1 month!

  • balmy54 Mar 20, 2009

woke up this morning to find phone dead. tried to switch on a few times by holding both buttons (top right and bottom) down simultaneously as I normally do and it woouldnt switch on. put it on the charger and tried that and still no luck. plugged it into laptop and stll didnt work. then i tried to just switch on as normal again, did it by holding both down for about 20 seconds and it worked. try 20 seconds and see if that wakes it up

DUDE YOU GUYS SAVED MY LIFE. So I'm chill'n on break and like two minutes into the second song I was jammin' it just dies. Damn near full battery, cause I had just charged it, no warning no nothing. So I work the rest of my day go home plug it into the computer for a good hour. tried holding down the power button like a million times like I normaly do when it starts freeking out. I'm mentaly prepareing my self to go the the att store when as a last ditch effort I google " my iphone won't turn on" and try the dual button thingy. I press both buttons for like 40 second twice. Hold down the home button for 20 then insert power. Then out of desperation I hold both buttons down for 40 seconds and insert the usb cord while countinueing to hold both buttons. Which is harder than it seems. I'm about ready to say forget it and go to bed but 20 seconds later my phones pops on. HURRAY! This site is awsome I'm gonna book mark it. MY PHONE FREEKING WORKS! Thanks folks who posted.

solution 4 worked for me.However, does anyone know why this problem is occuring??? I have had my iphone less than a week- i did not expect it to have problems so soon. Apple have just put out 3.12 software update which is said to fix 'sporadic no turning ons'.

I take it then that this is just a software fault and i shouldn't take this phone back???

  • SarahAnne03 Jan 30, 2010

    Here is my problem:
I went to plug it into my FM transmitter and once I had it plugged in, it restarted. Then it came up with the "plug into itunes screen". I wasn't anywhere near itunes at the time so I kept restarting it. Then it said the battery was dead so I plugged it into the car charger, which didn't charge it at all. Now it doesn't work. It doesn't turn on, and itunes doesn't recognize it either...I have done everything above...any other solutions????

I just found out that iPhones can be so discharged that they don't even respond when plugged in. I "fixed" my phone by just allowing it time to charge to the minimum amount needed. After about 7 minutes, it came back to life and charged normally.

If you have some problems with your iphone like it wont turn on or it wont react even though you tried all these stuff written above....there is the last possibility before you have to go to an apple store....and hope that they fix or replace it! you have to bring your phone to the DFU modus...for it follow the next steps: start itunes and plug-in your iphone even if it is turn off or it just shows the apple logo.... further press down the power button for about 3 second, then press the home button WITHOUT release the power button and hold both simultaneous at least 15 second.... finally release the power button and continue hold the home button for about 30 seconds... now the iphone should be detected by itunes. it ought to recommend to restore it to the factory defaults! after that you iphone should works correct again... hope my instructions are useful and let me know if it works on ur iphones!

Unplug your iphone from your pc
leave the cable in the iphone
start Itunes (leave the phone unpluged from the pc for now)
Hold down the power button and the home button until your screen goes blank
release the power button but keep holding the home button and connect your iphone back to your pc
keep the home button held for 20-30 seconds
Itunes will see your phone
restore with itunes

Thank you so much for your help, it saved us having to go to the Vodaphone shop and send
    the handset away...
the problem we had was that the phone would come on.. however, it was just the black screen with the apple logo on it, after a few seconds it would just switch off, the phone had good battery at the ttime it just switched off and all night we left it on charge but still encountered the same problem in the morning,

we tried all the above solutions 1 by 1 and had no sucess until solution 14!
    :)
would just like to say a huge thanks!!

  • sunnie d Mar 21, 2011

thanks for the great tip... i did NOT have to restore and lose my contacts, apps or photos by following your above steps after my phone just went off for no reason (battery was not dead, phone wasn't dropped, wet or anything... it just turned itself off and wouldn't restart)

at first screen wouldn't recognize my finger to unlock with a slide so i waited about 15 seconds and then all was good. thank you very much :O)

I finally took my iPhone into the Apple store.  It took them 15 seconds to determine that it was a hardware problem and replaced the phone.
They confirmed this by holding down both the button on the top (power) and the button on the front of the phone for 15 seconds.  When nothing happened, they plugged it into a working USB connector to a MacBook and when that did nothing, they replaced the phone.

I just had the same problem.
My phone died for no reason and would come on.
First held down the power buttons for 40 seconds. - no luck
Second tried holding down the power and home buttons for 20 seconds - Still no luck
Tried holding the home button for 30 seconds and
pluging the usb cord in to the phone end while holding the home button - still nothing
LAST out of desperation, i combined all three, I held the power and home buttons for 40 seconds or so and pluged in the usb to the phone while holding both buttons. Fifteen seconds later, to my shock and relief, I was looking at an apple logo.

"Hold the power and home buttons for 40 seconds or so and plug in the USB to the phone while holding both buttons" worked like a charm. Saved my weekend. Not sure what I can do without the phone nowadays. It was a wake-up call, not to rely on this Phone too much.

I had the same problem
and i tried holding down the power button and that did not work.
then i read a bunch of these comments and saw people trying the power button and the home button at the same time.
i tried this and held it down for about 5 seconds and got nothing.
i was starting to get really frustrated.
then i pressed them again angrily and held them for about 20 seconds.
and the start up screen with the apple came up.
i was really happy.
and it took a while for it to actually turn on but it did.
i was relieved.
now it is working.
hopefully this will not happen again and i hope that apple or att will fix this because i do not want a scare like that again.
after all my phone is only about a month old.

Right top button on iphone and home button on the face of the phone. Hold BOTH down and it will work

Posted on Jul 21, 2009

I tried this and it worked:

try resetting it by pressing and hold the Sleep/Wake button (on the top right of the unit) and the Home button (circular button on the iPhone?s face) simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Thanks guys, I live in Rwanda and I had purchased a used 3GS iPhone from USA one month ago, the same problem happened last night, it was not starting up, when I google that's when i read the above solution (pressing sleep botton and the home button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds) and it worked. I was wondering if I will send it back to the Apple store in US, many thanks to the person who posted the above solution, Zeph, Rwanda

thank you man. i was worried. my iphone have had this issue for the 3rd time now. When i slept this was totally okay and working and switched on. When i woke up it wouldn't show me the display. and i was thinking of changing it this time round as the previous 2 times i went to this mobile shop and he revived it but would not tell me how he did it. I need suggestions. What could be the problem here ? It all of a sudden switches off display and doesn't turn on. is it the jailbreak problem and the software problem, or are there any hardware issues? please tell me ill be waiting for your replies man.

Mine has been not turning on for the past two days. I was freaking out because when i plugged it into itunes it said it was charging so i knew it was not dead. I got on here to see what the problem was. It probably just froze. I held down the power/sleep button and the home button at the same time. Keep holding it for no more than a minute and it the apple logo should appear and it will stay the apple logo for a few minutes before going to your slide screen. it works and it if doesnt then thats nots whats wrong with your iphone/itouch

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
After spending numerous hours of tweaking with my iPhone 2G, which i unlocked and jailbroke myself, i figured out a way to fix it. My phone would not tun on, after i had to reboot it from downloading an app. like the rest of you, all i got was the apple logo, and after a few seconds, would turn off. iTunes would also not recognize my phone and i could not charge it.

Here is the solution. Get your hands on an iHome, or in my case i used the Sony version of an iHome. im sure any speaker system that charges your iPhone will work. Put your iPhone on the dock. you should see the apple symbol pop up. at this time, hold the power button and menu button for 10-15 seconds until it has turned off and turned back on, when you see the apple logo for the second time, let go of the power button, and keep your finger on the home button, the connect to iTunes screen should appear. LEAVE THE iPHONE IN THE iHOME!!! at the point, go to your computer/laptop. hard reboot it, by holding down the power button. then holding down again to turn on. take your usb cable and make sure it is NOT plugged into the computer. when you computer is at the desktop screen, take out your iPhone and in a timely manner, plug the usb cable into the iPhone, and then plug the other end into your Computer (in that order). Your computer will then recognize your iPhone, and open iTunes.

The good news is: You have turned on your iPhone!
The bad news is: You have to restore your iPhone to get it to work, which means reactivating it. so you will have to reunlock and rejailbreak it again. so if youre sim card is not on the iPhone plan, then youre only half way there.

By the way, i unlocked and jailbroke my iphone using this video

My phone was fully charged and functional and five minutes later juts shut down.

Solution: Press the top power button and circular home button at the same time for about 15 seconds.

None of the others worked for me but I plugged the iphone into USB on the computer and held both buttons for maybe a minute until the USB-itunes logo appeared on the screen and the PC detected the phone. Itunes then asked me to restore the phone as there was a software problem. It now works fine

Posted on Feb 22, 2010

Ive tried charging and holding both buttons but nothing that means it is a hardware problem or the motherboard

Hey everyone, this is how I fixed my iPhone when it refused to turn on. As everyone has stated, push down the slim silver on/off button on the top right of the phone and the circle home button on the bottom front of the phone (pretty much the only two buttons on the phone) simultaneously until the apple logo appears on the screen. This may seem like it takes an eternity, but do not let go of those buttons until this apple logo appears. After the apple logo appears, the phone will need you to connect to iTunes. Get a phone charger/connector with a USB end, pop it in the computer, and iTunes will tell you that you need to restore your phone. You will lose all of your contacts, photos, apps, etc. In my case, this was the only way to fix it.

thank you thank you thank you!! ive had the iphone 3gs for about 7 months now and its done this about 4 times. the only thing ive been able to do for it is leave it on the charger for about 3 days and eventually it will be fine. Well my back up phone took a **** and my phone is my life. I did what you said and it worked. and i have my phone back now after about 20 mins of it being dead. not the normal 3 days

  • erice1_chris Jan 14, 2011

all you do is reboot the phone by pressing and holding down the on/off button and the home button then you wait for it to turn off take out the sim card at the top of the phone there should be a millimeter big circle you have to use a pen or a paper clip to press inside of it then you pull out the sim card put it back in and then reboot the phone again now you hook it up to a laptop or wall charger and press the on/off button and it should begin to charge you should see the battery symbol and a small bolt and your done .

Yes! This worked. It takes about 90 to 120 seconds of holding down the buttons. I tried it and it worked the second time. I had it on the charger over night, even though it was black screen. It did have a full charge when it finally came on. Once the apple logo appeared, I connected it to my computer and it synched. Just wondering what they heck that was...piece of expensive junk....what they heck???

After having the same problem, I followed some of the postings' advice. What worked : plugging in iphone to mac with USB cable, then after 10 min, pushing home and reset button (upper top) at the same time for 15 seconds (doing this before connecting to mac with USB cable did not work even though the phone's battery is not dead).

Ok, so i had this problem and now it's SOLVED!
For some time now, after i have upgraded my Iphone 2G to the 2.2.1 version, my iphone kept giving me an error that goes something like "this accessory is not made to work with iphone"...
After some 2-3 weeks of this error at least once a day, at some moment i forgot to charge my iphone and the battery went empty after night. In the morning it have noticed it can't charge, can't reset, can't go into DFU, etc. I have tried all the tricks found on numerous forums but nothing.
What i did to solve this problem is:
1. I have opened my iphone using a cutter and a screwdriver. You can find info on how to open your iphone on google.
2. i took out the batery nicely cutting the three wires at the midle (black=minus, red=plus, white=ground).
3. Following the instructions at
http://dailycupoftech.com/2008/07/21/usb-pinout/
i took two wires from the usb of my computer (V BUS (5V) and Ground) and joined them with the wires from the battery of my Iphone. (USB 5V+ to Battery plus / USB Ground to battery minus). You could use i guess any charger that outputs DC 5V, but i didn't had any in hand.
4. I left the battery charging for about two hours.
5. I deconected the batery from the usb "charger" and joined the wires back on the Iphone, as they first were. ! be carefully at the exact order of the wires, and don't short-chircuit the wires together or touch the Iphone board with them. Isolate them with duct tape or whatever you have handy. (i have used paper :) i know ... )
6. I put the Iphone back together.
7. My Iphone booted after pressing the upper right power button at first try. It can charge and is detected by the computer, i can restart it, DFU, whatever.
8. I have upgraded my Iphone to 3.0 as the problem seemed to be related to some update/unlock procedure for 2.2.1.
In the past 3 days my Iphone haven't complained about anything, no errors, no "this accessory is not made to work with iphone", it seem to work just fine.
BE VERRY CAREFOULY if you decide to do this, but I think it is worth a try as otherwise your Iphone will remain a paper weight anyway.
Good luck.
sory for my bad english

The home and power button technique worked for me! Thanks everybody!
my iPhone was low on charge last night so I left it charging alll night, the morning after it was dead and no buttons were doing anything on it. So I googled "my iPhone won't turn on anymore" and found the solution, I was already thinking of having to buy a new one!

Your iphone's battery drained completely. there are a couple ways to get past this, but they aren't always guaranteed to work.

first
attach the iphone to your computer using a separate cord. this will rule out it just being the charger itself that's defective

no dice?

second:
try holding down the sleep/wake button for ten seconds, followed by holding down the home button for thirty seconds after releasing the sleep/wake button, this usually forces the iphone to wake up

no dice?
time for a reset!

third:
press and hold the sleep/wake button + Home button for thirty seconds at the same time. this should run a factory reset on your phone. Yeah, it's a pain in the *** trying to get all of your old settings back, but it's better than paying for a new phone AND getting your old settings back.

Still no dice?

fourth
try to replace the battery on your own. you'll need a paperclip (remove the sim tray) a case opener tool (guitar picks work fine) and a #00 phillips screwdriver. flatheads occasionally work too. you can find further instructions easily if you look up Iphone takeapart or iphone battery replacement. doing this WILL void your warranty though. If you stil have a warranty and none of the above steps fixed it, definitely take it into apple.

if all else fails...
sell your iphone on ebay. depending on the model and the memory, you should be able to fetch a hundred bucks or so at least for it
Sell it on ebay

Had a similar problem with my iPhone 3G this morning. I followed the instructions above and nothing happened. I tried three times but all I got was an annoying red battery screen with a lock. Then on the 4th try the lock disappeared but the red battery remained. By now I was frustrated because I knew the phone was 100% charged less than 10 hours ago. The phone is not even a year old. Anyway, I left it plugged into the charger while I was reading the comments on this page and about two minutes later I hear a beep from the previously silent phone. I look over and sure enough the thing is now swtiched on and charging, although the annoying red battery is still there. The phone reads 5% and charging, it's now two minutes later and it's up to 12%. Am assuming it will continue to recharge. Thanks to all for the wonderful advice. Much appreciated! :)

It appears my iphone only does this "turn off and not charge" thing when I use to the camera for more than 5 or 10 minutes.

Anyone else?

The holding down of both butons fixed turns it back on and didnt affect the apps or data i have stored on my iphone.

This one worked for me: After trying all the above to no avail...

1. What do I have? A month old 3GS.
2. What happened? I completely drained my battery.
3. As a result? My iPhone wouldn't start. In the screen I just get a picture of an empty battery (filled with a tiny red line) and underneath that a bolt sign. (BTW if the iPhone isn't connected it shows the same battery but with a blinking red line and underneath it also a plug.
4. How did I manage it to work? Using the above described reset method: Hold the upper button and the home one. That didn't work. Then I connected it to iTunes. That didn't work either for 4/5 times. Then it suddenlu gave me the restore screen and iTunes asked me to restore my device. I really didn't want to loose all data, so I did the reset again... now it gave me the apple logo! And booted... and worked!!!!

The best thing to do is to take out the battery for 5minutes and then put it back in. This should solve the issue

I too was freaking out but did a google search on how to fix it and so I held down both the home and the power on key and it worked and now my iphone is working again but it was pretty scary.

Did u get it fixed yet? Try holding down the home button and power button for 10 sec. and c if that resets it. If that doesn't work try plugging it into itunes and c if that will work. You might have to restore it. If that doesn't work and u have not jailbroken it call either at&t or apple and get it replaced. You have a 1 year warrenty unless u jailbroke it.

Hold the power and home key for about 5-20 seconds. Though many solutions say just the power, it didn't work for me. My phone died and then I charged it full and looked at a picture, put it in my pocket. When I go to check it, the screen is black and it's unresponsive... so, initially I freak out, but these helped. So, home key and power together should be your solution, thank god. Haha.

Ok then guys, i had a completely unresponsive iphone for over a month. i pulled it out of the draw ready to sell it. heres what I did to get it to power so that i could reset.

1. Unscrew iphone screws at bottom.
2. Get a suction cup (mine was off sat nav holder) and the front of the phone will easily come up.
3. All wires are numbered, take out numbers 1, 2 and 4. number 3 is a pain in the arse and is not worth removing because it is only for the speaker. Ive learnt the hard way and broke the connection and now only have speakerphone to rely on.
4. Put them al back together (they only push on)
5. Do the reset thingy ( hold top and bottom buttons for 10 seconds) and do this twice.

Hey it worked for me guys and I've bought a second iphone to replace the one ive now got working and i wouldn't be afraid to open the phone, if you have no warranty/insurance you have nothing to loose, and if you do have warranty/insurance then you would just send the phone back to be replaced wouldn't you?

let me know if this works for you

The first tip worked for me too, just try resetting it... Here\'s the logic: When your iPhone dies, the internal RAM shuts down after the reserve battery power is used. This in turn sleeps the motherboard, which is why it appears dead. Resetting the RAM on the motherboard will juice the very small amount of energy out of the battery to re-boot the motherboard. If resetting your iPhone doesn\'t work for you at first. Lay it in your cradle for approx. 10 minutes then try resetting. Although it doesn\'t appear so, you will actually be charging the battery, just without waking the motherboard.

It can be either due to:

1. iphone charger issue
2. iphone charging spot issue
3. iphone battery issue

first of all check from your friends if your charger works fine on their iphone, if no then try charging with the same charger and at same location where they're charging it to see if something changes.

There can be a huge list of issues for which iphone may not charge, you can find that at: http://nabtron.com/iphone-not-charging-finally-solved/1820/

However usually it's the charger issue or the charging port one imho.

My iphone has done this twice now and each time it eventually turns on. the first time i kept pressing the silver button on the top over and over really fast and it turned on.. the second time i held down the home button and the one on top until the screen turned on, and it did. just hold the two buttons down together and keep them down until the apple appears.

If you get no reaction at all, you probably have broken dock connector or broken logic board. Did you try a hard reset (on/off button and menu button together for 5sec.) If that fails, Bring it to the apple store to see if you geta replacement through them. If you can't, there are third party iPhone repair services, that will replace the broken parts for cheap. Also, I found an DYI iphone repair guide, so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is available on ebay.

And just how should i exactly do this basically can't energy on my cell phone? BY THE WAY, the telephone was in no way touched by any kind of fluid or was harmed. It merely requires sat in one place for years.
Indeed, set by my initial post, We already said I tried plugging this into a pc and it did not work. You will find no signals whatsoever which my phone is actually turning upon. I listen to no sounds or even see anything at all.

This usualy happens when you have replaced your lcd on the iphone,
the phone gets stuck is lock mode and cant recover from it.
the fix is easy.
if you replaced your lcd just pop the charging cable it and press the power button and the home key together for about 3 seconds then release power "keeping the home button pressed still" after a further 2 seconds release.
what this actualy does is it starts to send the phone into recovery mode but because the buttons arnt pressed long enough it will force a logic board restart and therefore kicking it out the lock mode making your phone working again.

I read a solution online on how to get your iphone to turn back on anit worked . Toggle the switch above the volume on the swided back and forth twice then push the on button on top and the click button on the bottom at the same time, hold for about 5 seconds and the Apple icon will come on, followed by the menu screen.

My iphone ran out of battery and then would not charge or turn on. So here is how I fixed my iPhone when it refused to turn on:
As everyone has stated, push down the slim silver on/off button on the top right of the phone and the circle home button on the bottom front of the phone (pretty much the only two buttons on the phone) simultaneously until the apple logo appears on the screen (about 10 sec).
That's it and your back in business, and I did not lose any information (contacts, emails etc.)
Nice fix...!

If your phone is "hacked" or "jail broken" where its been unlocked by a dodgey market stall and not by your network then if your hardware pops your stuffed cause your phone is classed as void warrenty, try turning off all ur firewalls / antiviruses before u update your phone and restore your phone as new thru itunes

Solution #2 worked awesome. In the middle of the night I went to check the time and my phone wouldn't respond at all. The battery was fully charged when I went to sleep, so I knew it couldn't be a charging issue. I know it could not have been a damage issue either because I have had it six months and have taken better care of it than I have myself....not a single blemish on it. After the initial freak out, I calmed down and got on the internet, and guess what, the people on here actually helped. Hold down the power button (top right) and the home button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and you'll get the silver apple; then you are safe. Weird though, I still can't figure out what would have caused the phone to turn off in the first place, bu it works now

Open up iTunes, connect the iPhone. Hold down the power button for 3 seconds, hold both power button and home button for 10 seconds, release power button while still holding down the home button. This puts your iDevice into DFU mode, so it can be restored using iTunes.

Let your Iphone cool down then plug it in to charge. Let the Iphone has charge for a decent amount of time. if the iphone still won't turn on hold down the home and power buttons at the same time until the apple logo shows up on the screen, this will force a restart.
If the iphone has charged and after a minute of holding the home and power buttons the logo still hasn't shown up take the iphone to the genius bar.

Sometimes the iPhone can lockup and stop working or just show the Apple symbol and not do anything else. But panic not, normally an app has caused the phone to crash and it needs to be restarted.
Here’s how you do it:

Sometimes just pressing and holding the home button for about 5 seconds, can help. But if not try this:
Press and hold the iPhone’s Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for several seconds, or until you see the apple logo on the screen.

If you are comfortable with opening devices you can take a multimeter to the battery. If the phone doesn't turn on if you battery has 3.7V or more you have a logic board issue. Oh, did you do a hard reset yet? Press menu and sleep/wake button together for 5 sec. If after all revival attempts you still don't get it to turn on It's usually an issue with the logic board, so ultimately if you want to resolve it, the logic board needs to be replaced. This means the device was reset to factory settings. You need to connect the device to iTunes. Go to a Mac or PC with iTunes, start iTunes and connect iPhone to the Mac/PC and follow on-screen directions. You will need to reestablish your iTunes account to the iPhone for apps and music (assuming you use iPhone for apps and music). If you have only download apps/music to iPhone and never performed a sync/backup to iTunes (really bad idea, BTW), I would suggest making an appointment at apple.com with the Genius bar at a local Apple store.

Since it is still under warranty, they obviously feel that you have voided the warranty ... by say, "unlocking" the iPhone ....... been there too .....

What you can do is hold the power On/Off button + Home button at the same time. Your iphone will reboot. When you see the apple logo, quickly let go the power On/Off button. If you want to jailbreak your iphone, go to www.blackra1n.com and download the jailbreaking tool.

Follow these easy steps below...
- Turn off your iphone
- Run the jailbreaking tool
- Turn on your iphone
- The jailbreaking tool will everything by itself.
- If you want to unlock your iphone after it is jailbroken, hit the blackrain icon and select install Cydia and unlock with Blackrain.

You may have damaged it when it was dropped. If the restore won't work then it's going to be a hardware problem.

If your lucky it might just be a ribbon cable that has come out of it's socket. If you have the first gen iPhone (2g) i wouldn't bother opening it up and it's a nightmare. But if you have a iPhone 3g then you could open it and check the cables.

Use this video as your guide to open it

good luck!

If it's not charging to the point where it drain the battery, then you could have a damage port in the iPhone. With that said, your device needs to be taken apart to replace the charge port. The part looks something like this image. 94f565a2-1793-4597-9cb5-3ef99270148b.jpg
This one is for an iPhone 3gs, but you get the idea. Best of luck.

Before you can charge your iPhone on the computer, your computer needs to install the drivers for it. You might have to reinstall the drivers for it. A good way to check if the drivers are incorrectly installed is to see if iTunes detects it. Try updating your iTunes since the old version of iTunes won't work with ios6 and all iPhone 5 are shipped with ios6

Try turning it off and then back on, if turning it on and off doesn't work, restoring it might work. Also try to remove the SIM card and put it back into the phone. I recommend simply exchanging the phone at the Apple store if it is still under warranty. Click on the links below to see other soultions for the charge and sync iphone problem

I pluged my 3 week old i phone and it has a

Problem:

My iphone's battery died and i plugged it in to charge it and left it there. Then plugged it into my computer then tried to turn it on and it wont turn on.. I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any ideas

Solution
:
  1. ive tried charging and holding both buttons but nothing that means it is a hardware problem or the motherboard
  2. try resetting it by pressing and hold the Sleep/Wake button (on the top right of the unit) and the Home button (circular button on the iPhone?s face) simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
  3. The first tip worked for me too, just try resetting it... Here's the logic: When your iPhone dies, the internal RAM shuts down after the reserve battery power is used. This in turn sleeps the motherboard, which is why it appears dead. Resetting the RAM on the motherboard will juice the very small amount of energy out of the battery to re-boot the motherboard. If resetting your iPhone doesn't work for you at first. Lay it in your cradle for approx. 10 minutes then try resetting. Although it doesn't appear so, you will actually be charging the battery, just without waking the motherboard.
  4. Hold down the home button then plug the usb lead into the back of the computer at the same time. see if that helps!
