Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

DVD no video output

I have Toshiba Notebook M40-P545 with Mata DVD-RAM UJ-8315.
Problem:
1. When playing any DVD movies, cannot get video output, only audio is heard!
2. When playing any CD movies, both audio and video are okay.
3. When playing only CD music, audio is definitely okay.

Software modification recently:
1. Nothing much, only installing the driver for external DVD R/W from Samsung.

What been done:
1. Using recovery DVD to reformat the whole thing.
2. The recovery was successful and DVD RAM seems to run the recovery.
3. Afterwards, try to replay DVD movies, still no video output!!!!

Wish to know if anybody can help me
thanks in advance

Factory DVD... you mean original? Yes I think so. Anyhow, the same DVDs were played using the same Toshiba laptop. So in the past, it used to play the movies (with pictures output) very well, but now it's only audio; the video did not play at all a.k.a no picture.

So, if we say the DVD RAM on the laptop is spoilt, why is it that the audio is still okay, and the DVD recovery disk can also be played to reformat the whole harddisk (which turned out to be unsuccessful to troubleshoot the problem)?

    Dear everybody,

    thanks for the reply.

As to clarify reinstalling the DVD software, it didn't help at all because I already in fact recover (rather, reformat) the OS.

Do you think it's more on hardware problem?

    thanks

First there is no such thing as DVD RAM to my knowledge.

If you were using an internal DVD drive, then you probably messed up the driver for it. Have you wnet to DEVICE MANAGER to see if it shows anything wrong with the internal drive?

If it was working ok before installing the driver for the external DVD R/W, try removing that driver anreinstalling the originaldriver for the internal DVD drive.

Does the external drive paly DVDs properly? If so just use it to play DVDs as sell as buring them.

    I hope this helps.

This was probably caused by an update, just reinstall your DVD encoder/decoder software.

Not enough video memory to play a DVD?

Go to www.crucial.com download their Advisor program and run it on your machine

It will report how much memory you have on board

1gb is the bottom line for running XP, 2gb for Vista

Using XP and a DVD player it is a 2gb application

3gb if you are running Vista.

Some laptops allow you to limit how much Ram Windows can steal on start up
