No Power to face plate

I have installed a 2nd hand kenwood kdc-2020 that was working perfectly in my friends car. There is currently no sign of power in the face plate, but cds can be inserted and ejected using the eject button. There is obviously power going to it, and the security light is blinking when the face plate is off. The reset button doesn't produce a result. Any thoughts?

Re: No Power to face plate

You need to make sure you are getting power to the red wire. Both the red and yellow wires need to have power going to them to make sure the radio works. Yellow should be constant power and controls the memory, red should be switched or ignition so it turns on and off with the key.

Control head will not power up. I put power to the unit and hear the cd player movement working inside but no control head activity

make sure the face plate is in correctly. This unit has a removable face plate and it could be half way in. Also, check to make sure the little copper contacts are clean.

it needs a new ribbon cable. Some car audio repair shops stock these (mine does). Part is about $20-30. Labor will depend on the shop.

Kenwood KDC-715s problem.

the kenwoods with the motorized face platesdevelop one problem with time. the flexable ribbon cable between the main unit & the face plate. as the face open & closes, over time wares out the cable. problem consists of face plate not opening/closing, display missing & and/or some or all buttons not working. note these can also be intermittent problems. typically the part number is located on the cable itself on the side where it pluggs into the main board. since you have a service manual, you should verify it in the manual. good luck.
