Question about RCA P52960 52" Rear Projection Television
Made a popping noise, shut off and on , and now the picture is blurry and the sides of the picture are concave and the red is off set to the blue. When looking at numbers the red shadows the blue. six years old was wondering if it is worth fixing. Model no. P52937
The shape of the picture indicates that the convergence circuit is not working properly. Generally speaking this occurs without making any sound at all. The popping you heard may have been a capacitor in the power supply. If the power line effected supplied the convergence circuit, repairing the supply should return the set to normal. If not, then the convergence ICs may be faulty. If you can solder, and are confortable working inside the set where potentially dangerous high voltages exist (even when unplugged), you may be able to repeir this yourself.
Let me know and I'll provide additional details and instructions.
