Question about Bosch Nexxt Premium WFMC6400UC Front Load Washer

1 Answer

My Bosch WFMC6400UC washer is not spinning up to speed. The drum turns but very slowly and will not get up to high speed when on the Spin Cycle. I hear a slight vibration or humming when it is spinn

The washer is 8 years old with no prior issues. It simply started doing this today. Drum will not get up to speed in Spin cycle.

Okay so I performed a test. With an EMPTY drum I ran the spin cycle. It took longer than normal but it definitely got up to full speed (1200 rpm) and sounded fine. Is there a possibility that there is something else going on like a worn belt that is slipping with the motor under load with towels or something? I thought of running a small load of clothes to see if it gets up to speed. I appreciate all your help!

Like all of us, our joints and muscles are getting old and slow. The motor may be suffering from evaporated lubrication in its bearings so it is resisting its own motion. RGive the old guy a rest, retire him.

My wife ran a small load this evening and no issues. She said it seemed to spin out fine. I am wondering if it might have had something to do with the belt slipping rather than the motor. Either way, I will keep an eye on it. I don't think he's put in enough years to warrant retirement at this point. I expected way more than 8 years out of this fine piece of German Engineering.

The motor is losing its power due to dry bearings or burnt windings. It will probably need to be replaced (after 8 years..wow!).

Thanks. I was hoping it was simply worn brushes that needed to be replaced but I was told this one has a brushless motor. Bosch said the motor is discontinued and the replaceement motor requires a new motor control circuit. All at a cost of nearly $450.

    YIKES!!!!

Please read my other comment about the test I performed. With an empty drum, motor did get up to full speed. Could it be something else?

SOURCE: Bosch Washer

Yes, check the brushes. Our 7-yr. old WFK-2401 just stopped spinning and a brush change did the trick. Repair people wanted $350 for a whole new motor, but it was only the brushes. Replacing them is not very difficult if you are somewhat handy with a 1/2in. wrench and have some common sense about mechanics and electrics. Just look carefully as you loosen motor - disconnect its wires first, and think, and study, and try to understand what you're doing. I took lots of photos just in case. In the end it was easy; make sure to get belt off motor and motor will be out in no time; just two bolts to undo. Also, make sure you put brushes in properly - their tips are slanted and need to go in the right way and make full contact with commutator inside. Again, common sense. Bosch sells brushes, also RepairClinic.com, for slightly more but real Bosch parts. I paid the latter $45 with shipping - Bosch part No. 154740. Another option is to take motor out and find local motor repair shop and have them do it. Bosch won't help you. Power to the people - and the motor!

SOURCE: Bosch classixx 1000 washing machine - stops on spin

Washing machine stops at the spin cycle - light flashes. Have to drain water out manually. Happened last week and was then able to run an empty rinse cycle. Machine worked normally for another week. Same problem today but have had to drain water manually from the drum after trying an empty 90 wash and rinse cycle (both stopped on the Spin and flashed). Any ideas? Thanks. x

SOURCE: I have Bosch Nexxt Premium WFMC6400UC Front Load

Hello and welcome to fixya.

I`d suggest removing the back panel and inspecting if the belt has perhaps come off.

**Unplug the unit from the wall first**

If so, put the belt around the motor pulley and start it around the drum/drive pulley. As you hold it in place spin the large pulley and it should go back on, careful not to pinch your fingers...ouch :(

Let me know what you find out or if you require further assistance.

If this indeed solves the problem please take a second to rate my solution accordingly.

Thank you for choosing`"fixya" and good luck.

Check connectors on motor assembly they can become loose due to the high speed and vibration. Motor and drum are tied together. I had similiar problem with mine after spending a few hundred on a control board which made no difference.

Machine will fill and turn slowly but will not

Check motor capacitor first.Try moving the drum and see there is no extra friction. If your washer has got braking mechanism check the brakes also. ( I have no idea about this model regarding break)

Clothes come out wet

HI, this is a common issue that is easily fixed by, replacing the control unit. this control manages the motor functions during operations. if this unit is not spinning correctly, replace the Control unit. aka(motor control unit). In you washer, they call the motor control board a (Control Unit). replace this asap if possible. this will fix your washer. ADDITIONAL CHECKS--(Make sure that this unit is also draining water properly as well. this will cuase wet spin outs as well).

yes it could be normal if the balance control senses that the load is uneven however the same problem could be caused by a blocked filter or blocked sump hose.
