Question about HP Compaq Presario C500t Notebook

1 Answer

Windows XP is not starting.

On starting, it starts on the safe mode. (there are 5 options: safe mode; safe mode with Networkin; safe mode with Command Prompt; Last known Good Config; Start Windows Normally) I have tried all 5 options but it does not go beyond that. It closes and restarts repeatedly. What do you tink can be the problem?

Your operating system may have been corrupted , try 2 go 2 safe mode if you can and restore your computer at earlier time by system restore. if this doesnt solve your problem you can repair it using your installer.

I have a black screen that says safe mode, safe mode with networkin , safe mode with command prompt and laast known good configuration but when i go to safe mode my computer just reboot all over again

This recycling/rebooting into this screen is normally caused an error (hardware or software).
You MUST turn off - Automatic Restart to see the error message.
Power down your laptop.
Press the power button to turn-on laptop.
Start pressing the F8 key immediately AFTER the DELL logo screen and BEFORE the windows screen.
You SHOULD be brought to the same screen as you described above but with an additional option: TURN-OFF automatic restart. Select this option and press ENTER.
Let laptop cycle and you should see blue background screen with white letters giving you information.

Please provide the ERROR message on screen BEFORE we can advise you any further.

Go to the safe mode option then once there go to start-run-then type in MSCONFIG then go to system recovery then go to recovery for an earlier time. This will reset your Windows to an earlier time you may be able to salvage it without having to re-install the operating system. F8 also will bring you to "Safe Mode" if not do it through the Dos command screen. If this does not work then you might consider re-installing Windows again. John

Ok-Go to Safe Mode-any-click on start menu-run:msconfig-hit enter-click on restore option-choose date-go! If you can't do that, on boot you machine should tell you what other option you have-like"push ESC button to aces setup" or something like that. Hit that button and go to RESTORE function.Good luck and Happy Holidays!

How do you put windows into safe mode?

Power on or Restart your computer, keep tapping F8 on the keyboard while it boots up. After few seconds, you'll be taken to the "Advanced Boot Options" with "Safe Mode" in the lists. Use the Up-Down arrow keys to highlight the "Safe Mode" and press enter on the keyboard to confirm the selected boot options. Black Screen with white texts will be displayed on the display, wait for few seconds until you see the windows logon Screen. You'll also see a confirmation message box asking you to confirm to boot into Safe Mode, click "yes" or "Ok" and proceed forward. There now you are in the Safe Mode.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

what you are describing is the blue screen of death, meaning theres a hardware or software problem, try to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore, if that doesn't work use your XP cd, let it load the drivers and the ask it to fix the existing XP installation, anything that you have saved in my documents should be safe and the problem should be solved. If the blue screen reappears then you have a hardware problem

Windows XP fails to load and Computer will not start up.

Boot from startup floppy disks or CD-ROM, choose repair option during setup, and run Recovery Console. When you are logged on, you can run FIXMBR command to fix master boot record. This should solve your problem.
