Couple things you can do:

1) Go to HP 1280 Support
There is a link there to detect to see if your printer has the correct driver. Click on it and see if it will install the Vista driver automatically.

2) You can download and install the driver manually by going to the same page above and click on "Download Drivers and Software". On the next page select your operating system...Vista.There is only one choice...the driver. Click on "Download". When the download window opens, select Save and save it to your Desktop. When the download is complete, run (double-click) the file on the desktop.

If you have trouble, comment back.

My hp deskjet 1280 windows 7 drivers update driver but not working properly full driver setup need please helpme

If your running windows 7 try this place the driver file on your desktop and right click on it and choose trouble shoot compatibility. windows will ask if you want to use recommended settings, or try additional options choose try additional options. it will then ask you if it worked on another os, choose vista service pack 2 , then click the start program button, this will start the install shield in vista compatibility mode. and follow the wizard thru the installation. Reboot and that should solve your issue.

Printer will not operate on Windows 7 computer.Computer was upgraded from Vista to 7. Vista was completely removed before installing 7. Tried downloading new drivers, didnot work.

Possibly HP rare not supporting this printer in the new OS, although most Vista drivers are compatible with Windows 7, so have you tried installing the original drivers that came with the printer?

Also, Windows 7 has a driver "compatibility mode". Here is use of the mode explained on the Microsoft tech forum:

I am trying to install my printer to my laptop with Windows Vista and the laptop says it is ready. I click print and nothing happens. The software details say that I need to upgrade to Windows 98, NT, or...

I think that the printer driver that you installed in your computer is not a driver for Vista. I checked the supported operating systems and it's compatible with Win 2000 upto Win XP.

BUT, I saw this on a site:

Supported software
Windows Vista HP Deskjet 656c Printer driver utility.

Meaning that there's is a possibility that HP has a Vista driver for your printer. You need to contact HP and ask them where can you get the Vista driver for your printer. I had a feeling that it's the only way that would make the printer work.

Have a great day!

Drivers for this printer are already pre-installed with Vista.

Power down your PC.
Plug in the printer (wall and PC).
Startup PC - Vista will install the drivers and printer automatically.
