Last week a shirt sleeve was caught in between the door and the drum. eventually the seal gasket and the sleeve entangled and the whole load created a gigantic knot. after getting the laundry out and getting the gasket and the sleeve seperated i had to 'install' the gasket again and tighten it down with the wire (this was easy).
however, our washer won't spin anymore now.
i have a hard time believing that a technician has to come out (in our case for $ 85) just to diagnose it as this seems to be a common 'safety hazard' with front loading washing machines that something gets caught between door and gasket...
is there a safety feature like a switch or fuse that just needs to be reset or do you guys think that it blew the engine?

What you're describing is probably the inner drum rubbing on the door seal.
It could be because the rear bearing assembly has collapsed or because the drum is distorted.
Turn the drum slowly by hand and see if the gap between the rim of the drum and the rubber seal stays the same. This will tell you if the drum is 'round' or bent out of shape.
Alternatively, if the drum flops up and down inside the outer drum it would be because of bearing collapse
Either of these situations would require a service visit and parts.

If the machine is working alright otherwise , then there is an alignment problem on the door or your seal gasket is worn out. Since this is a mechanical failure it must be inspeccted before we can confirm on the fault. If you find the gasket worn out or the sides cut along, then it needs a replacement. The same type of gasket is available from different sources, try the LG dealer or the appliances hardware shop. If there is any hinge problem on the door remove and adjust. The door must close and seal well. Hope you can sit in front of the door and look carefully to logically confirm and repair. Hope you get this right. Good day
If the w/m washes and drains now but doesnt spin then almost certainly the spin side of the motor has gone faulty. Im assuming the jambing up of the clothes took place while spinning, it would only take a short while to become faulty if the drum wont turn. If so, a new motor is needed. If the drum tries to turn half heartedly then check the 16micro farad capacitor.
If you haven't gotten a solution yet, I did this myself. It is pretty hard to remove the spring that is holding the gasket in place. Once you do that, just replace the gasket and reattach the ring w/spring.
you will have to take off the front off washer to put it back correctly.
remove the top panel 3 screws in top rear remove the bottom panel 3 screw in bottom front remove the top led control panel 3 screw or more along front lip if you disconnect any wiring mark it well . now the front of washer can be removed with or without the door (your choice) careful with the door lock wiring. be sure to unplug the washer. while you are in the innards its a good time to wipe around the drum any buildup of soap etc.. and to clean the filter trap in the bottom access tube below drum.
The rubber seal fits over the lip around the door opening. Carefully seat the rubber seal all the way around the door opening first. Then, place the wire hoop in the crease where the rubber seal fits over the lip. Insert the hoop with the spring pointing at the bottom. Starting at the top and work your way around the door opening to the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. While holding the hoop in place, stretch the spring apart enough to allow the rest of the hoop to snap into the crease at the bottom of the door opening. You may need a second pair of hands to help you with this. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
