Question about LG 37LP1D 37 in. LCD Television

Open Question

No sound, no picture

My neighbour was throwing out this TV, he said the sound didn't work but the picture was fine. Now I'm turning it on, the green LED on the front flashes a few times, the backlight comes on (still a black screen) the LED continues to flash, then it goes solid about 20-30 seconds. I've taken the back off, no sign of dodgy capacitors, so rather than just broken sound, I also have no picture, also I'm not sure the remote works. On the main board there is an LED at the top with 3.3v written above it, it is flashing very very quickly, it also looks like the PCB is burnt a bit around it. On the right hand side of the PCB there are two other LEDs (one green, one red/green), they flash differently depending on the buttons which are pressed (input/menu etc) on the front pannel. Any ideas? It was about -10C on the day he put it on the curb and it was out there for an hour or so before I got to it, but it wasn't physically damaged. I've got my multimeter ready, but I'm not sure what to test.

SOURCE: works fine for 10-15 minutes, then screen goes

It can be caused by unstable DC in the power supply due to bad DC filter caps, that will be the first place to look. I have a feeling that it may be the main board.

SOURCE: Turn tv on. green light solid display, no picture or sound

The flashing green light is likely indicative of a self-test failure, indicating the TV has detected some sort of internal fault. With no picture or sound, one strong suspect is the power supply. Flat-panel TV's have an internal DC power supply that converts the inbound AC current, and when these fail, or are unable to supply a minimum level of power to the set, it can behave as you describe, providing only enough power for the green light to illuminate.

Sound doesn't work in HDMI mode, just picture. I tried buying a new HDMI cord but that didn't work either. Then one night the TV just turned off and now it won't turn back on.

Likely not related but HDMI does not like being connected if either unit is plugged in or powered up.

As to the TV let me know the brand and model number and what if any lights at all come on when you plug it in etc.

Turn on TV, sound from program but no picture, just a bright screen. Picture begins to fade. Brand new led TV, was working perfectly fine last night.

Hi,
Your TV have problem with its T-Con board. T-con board is one which drives the LCD Panel Pixels in rows and columns. As you didn't specified the brand and model number its not possible to give you the exact picture of T con board How its look like. You can find this board On the top center of the tv. Which will be covered with metal case or aluminium foil to avoid external interference. Here i have added a picture of T- Con board which used in Led Tvs.

PN63C7000 plasma turns on but shows no image.

HERE'S THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEM:

There could be a problem with your aerial or set box if there is something wrong with your TV picture or sound. Don't forget that there may be work going on at your local transmitter, or some kind of local interference.

Here's what you've got to do: Check with the local neighbours or another TV connected to a different aerial in case you are not the only person's aerial affected.. If only your TV is affected, the problem is likely to be in your TV, set-top box or aerial. If other TVs are affected, it's more likely to be caused by work at your local transmitter, or possibly the weather.

Your problem is solved. Thanks.

I share a TV antenna with my neighbour. there are three splitters in the line - one to give an output to a next door bedroom TV, a second gives a signal to their lounge TV with th other leg continuing to...

I suspect there is a Mast Head Amplifier to supply enough signal to split so many ways and the power supply is powered from the power socket supplying the neighbours TV. Switch it off and no/poor signal.
