I unplugged the power cord, left it for 9 hours, plugged it back in. It is still stuck in MANUAL.
So, I do not accept the 1st solution.

I cleaned the rod, and the print head on the ink cartridge. The plotter still reads: MANUAL [please install print head] The print head is on the ink jet cartridge, correct?

  • sunteriorfla Jan 30, 2009

the control panel has 6 buttons. None are stuck.

You need to go to your "start menu" and select "printers and faxes". Once you're there you will see maybe 1 or more printers. Look for yours which is the CalComp Techjet720 and right-click it to select "set as default printer". If you don't have that option then it already is and should have a check by it. After that right-click it again and make sure it is on "resume". Because it may be paused.

Hi,Can you give me some details on your OS and what programs you have running the 720?

We had the same problem when we tried running AutoCad2000

It sounds like it may be just a driver issue.

If the printhead is on cart and your getting error message to install print head then try to clean the print head and install and if get the same error then you may need to change the print on the printer ...please follow these steps :
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If the p0lotter will not go ONLINE, might it be that it can not sense the computer it is attached to? If this hold true, then the issue might be how it is connected to the computer or if the port in the computer is enabled. Pls check port settings in printer properties.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Check out if any button is stuck up inside.or the sensor controlling the pannel is moved from its position.otherwise it can be the internal control pannel circuit problem.

PAPER JAM WITHOUT ANY PAPER FEEDED

there is a common fault on this particular printer which also affects the t770/t1200
when trying to feed a new roll of paper the plotter is asking to remove the paper from manual feed even though there is none.

the fault lies with the way the plotter is using the manual feed sensor,
there has been a technical release from HP regarding this same issue.
what to do -
1) firstly you need to find out whether the sensor really is at fault or if there is another fault which is confusing the manual sensor output.
a:- upgrade the firmware on the plotter ( always make sure your plotters firmware is upto date), cycle the power of the plotter and retry.
b:-use your user operating guide to take you through 'calibrating manual feed sensor' and retry.this is a quick process which sets the values for paper present/not present on the formatter.
c:- if the above two have failed then order a new PCA and calibrate the sensor immediately after first initialize of new Main PCA.

if the sensor fails to calibrate then I would first order a new sensor ( cheapest option first) if that fails then replace the main PCA. but always first check for any new firmwares.

Tried upgrading Canon iPF710 firmware from 1.35 to 1.40 on 2 separate plotters and received a !Error E196-4040 Call for service message. Plotter will not come to a Online status.

Power off and unplug the printer for several minutes. On power on the printer had the same "ERROR E196-4040 Call For Service" after Initialization. Next start the printer in Service Mode, turn on the printer while holding down the [Paper Source/Feeder Selection] button and [Information] button until Initializing appeared in the display. An "S" will appear in the upper right of the version display. Power down and do a normal Power On and the printer should do a normal initialization and came On Line.

Why my HP designject 500 PLU can't turn on, no power after lunch, before lunch is ok.

This sounds like a heat related problem. Try running the plotter with the back cover removed. Also, try turning the plotter off before lunch and back on after lunch to see if it works ok. If it does, you may be looking at a power supply replacement.

Hp design jet 750c plus. while plotting auto cad drawing,i command it to plot black/white (mono) but it plots all in color instead.I selected mono button on the printer as well.

Your plotter driver needs to be set to either black or greyscale. The driver will overide the settings on the plotter unless you set up the plotter in manual. ie the pen thicknesses, colour etc are set in the control panel to manual. The driver takes priority always.
