It is located under the passenger seat. May have to loosen the pass front seat mounting screws and remove the two rear screws and lift the seat up at the rear about 3 inches to replace it.

The eighth digit of the vehicle identification number (VIN) tells the engine size. The VIN is 17 digits long and is visible on the windshield and drivers side door jam. 2001 doesn't interchange. You can find the codes on the engine, but you will have to remove parts to read it.

, it needs replaced, your car has a small auxilliary battery located behing the main battery located under the right front seat in a 'well' this battery purpose is to operate the electric shifter back to park if the main battery dies.

The code should be on a card that came with the owners manual. Usually everything is located in the leather case assuming the procedures are the same there as well as other locations. Otherwise, you will have to call the dealer and provide them with VIN and what other information they request for proof of ownership.

Thats actually not uncommon for a battery to run out of juice after sitting for a while. What is uncommon is the amount of time that elapses in your case. It shouldn't be empty after a week. However, this is assuming that you have a "Good" battery, or one that starts out at 100% before you leave your ML for the week. Factory installed batteries usually need to be replaced after 3-5 years. If I were you I would get the battery checked at AutoZone.

In the rare case that you have a 100% "Good" battery, you may have a constant draw from the battery when the car is off. This is highly unlikely. Check the battery out, and report back if you have any more questions!
