Question about Gateway MX6421 Notebook
Found this here http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=16740
There is nothing wrong with the driver. It's the SETUP program that's damaged. If you reinstall the driver but tell Windows to let you pick the device driver yourself, scroll down the list 'till you see sound and game devices, click that. A window appears with 4 drivers. Select the Conexant driver. XP will tell you that it's not the right driver, install it anyway. It'll ask for 1 file (sorry didnt write it down). Browse to the folder where the gateway drivers were downloaded. It finds that file, installs the driver and sound works!

Here is the link for all drivers for your computer. The sound drivers are about halfway down the page. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn¶m=5956
