Did your PC come with start up disk such as Windows 7 or current operating system? If so insert and follow prompts to do a complete restore this will delete all files and pics. It may offer you the chance to store them in a file mark old files or something like that. If you can actually get into the system then go to Control Panel and look for system restore and follow prompts. Hope this helps

I put the computer up a few years back because I'd gotten a new one. I forgot the password and now I'm trying to restore it so I can use it again. I didn't have much on it anyways. But it's a eee pc notebook. There isn't a disc slot.. I have tried EVERYTHING! I can think if and I think I'm doing more damage than good. I have heard people say at the start up screen press f10 to restore and they have told me ways to get to the restore screen. But, it always brings me back to the screen shown above.. I don't know what else to try..

SOURCE: hp laptop keeps restarting

If the laptop is not popping up any windows before it shuts down it could be the built in heat protection, you can see if your fan has a lot of dust by turning off the laptop off and then blowing into the area where it pulls in air. If it is popping up a window before it shuts down disconnect it from the internet and see if it does the same thing, if it stays on while discod from the internet then run your antivirus if possibl.

  1. Turn on the Netbook Start up the Netbook as usual, but instead of watching it load, immediately press the F2 key until the Setup Utility screen appears.
  2. Disable the Boot Booster Use the arrows to select the Boot tab. Click the Boot Booster option, then press Enter to disable it. Move to the last tab, then select Exit and Save Changes.
  3. Restart the Netbook Restart the Netbook, and press and hold F9 as the computer restarts until you see the loading screen. Click the "?" key to confirm when a message appears asking if you want to perform the operation.
  4. Wait as the process completes Do nothing as the restore process starts and completes. No human interaction is needed to finish the process. The computer reboots on its own and makes new configurations. The computer then automatically restarts again. At this point, the computer is now fully restored to its factory settings.

Reset bios

  • Restart the system. Click on "Start," "Turn off Computer" and "Restart."
  • At the Dell loading screen Tap "F2" to enter the BIOS. "Entering Setup" will appear. Certain models may use a different key. The key will be displayed during the boot process. For most Dell models, the key is "F2."
  • Once loaded, depending on BIOS version and type, you can reset the defaults by using "F9" key to Load Defaults, the "Load defaults" button on screen, or the "Alt" + "F" key combination to load factory defaults.
  • Press "Esc" on your keyboard and select save and exit.
  • Choose the "Enter" key to save all changes and exit the BIOS screen. Allow your system to restart for the BIOS settings to reset.

Toshiba portege r600 wont boot

Your BIOS settings may be wrong, or there may be a problem with the motherboard of the system.

I would check the BIOS settings on the laptop first.

When you first turn on the laptop - you might see something that says something like "Press F2 to enter Setup" or "Press Del to enter Bios" or "Press F1 to enter Setup" - or something along those lines. You will want to hit whichever key it is specifying and try to get into the BIOS/Setup.

Once you are in the BIOS, look for an option to restore defaults or reset factory settings. Do that and then save the changes and restart the computer.

If resetting the BIOS doesn't help, make sure that when you turn the computer on you are not plugged into a network cable at all.

If the system still gives the PXE error - then it is likely that something has gone wrong with your laptop motherboard. Unfortunately to get that fixed - you'll need to take it to a computer repair shop.

I hope that you can get the BIOS reset and it works for you though!

Hi,
Try this....

Get into BIOS (hold down F2 during start)
Find and disable 'boot booster'
Save and exit
Hold down F9 during start
Wait 10 minutes
Resume XP setup

Following instructions for factory settings on asus notebook but when i hit f9 on start up nothing happens please help

ASUS netbooks have a Boot Booster which renders all activity obsolete, you need to disable the boot booster first.

First you need to access the BIOS/Setup Utility, on an ASUS machine/Motherboard you need to hit "Del" or "F2" not F9 at this stage.

Once in the Setup Utility, using your arrow keys navigate to the Boot options page. Using down arrow key navigate to Boot Booster option and hit Enter to disable. Once the option is disabled navigate to the last tab Exit, and using down arrow key to navigate to Exit and Save Changes.

Your laptop will then reboot and as soon as it does you may start to hit "F9" which will start the Factory Settings utility. You can then follow the on screen instructions to continue wit the resetting of your machine.

F9 wont restore factory settings during the splash screen. is there a different button combo? running a8jp

F9 will restore factory screen only when its pressed in Bios settings screen ..to go there you have to press f2 or del during the start-up...(on boot) ..if you follow the screen that appears on boot ..you see that its says t press del to enter setup..immediately when it starts recognizing the devices..
after pressing f 9 in the bios press f10 to confirm the changes and exit ...but ..if this wha you want to restore is something related to the operating system it will not have much effect but in seeing the devices and restoring factory setings for them ...(hdd...ram mem ..CPU ..overclocking ..atc)
if you want to restore the operating system you either roll back to an earlier date by system restore in the control panel ( system maintenance ) or use a stored recovery procedure from the hdd...(if available ) or the recovery cd that came with the machine ...
remember that for some computers the recovery cd wil not contain the operating system ..so it will only restore factory settings for hot keys ..and drivers and them settings in original ..if you want to repair windows..you probably have to use a boot-able cd with operating system ..and boot from it and reinstall /repair..after case...
