Question about Rainbow Rainmate Air Purifier

2 Answers

I just set up my new rainmate in my son's room with the eucalyptus scent (he has a cold/cough), and I needed to know how safe is it to leave the unit running overnight, and how long does it take for the water to run dry with continuous operation (I filled the water to the line on the bowl as instructed).

Hey im a dealer for Rainbow. RockyNR1 is correct but let me just add that you can fill it to over the line if you want as long as the 'misting' still happens, be careful that the bowl is not near the edge of the surface as the spinning water might make it fall off the side. How long the water lasts is also very dependent on how large the room is that its in. Lastly you should be able to leave it run for 24/7

Water evaporates fairly quick. We were running RainMate for a while in our shop and we had to refill it several times during the day. It is only effective while it splashes water on the sides of the bowl. How soon water evaporates also depends on the room temperature and humidity. As far as the fragrances themselves - I do not believe that eucalyptus plants or oils were anywhere close to the manufacturing facility where the fragrances were made (and if they were close to the building they were trees with live leaves playing in the wind ). This is my personal opinion though and I hope that I am mistaken. If I were you I'd look for eucalyptus oils and oil containing ointments or cough syrups. Rainmate is made to be used with water soluble fragrances but you can try putting some oil (I'd say 5-20 drops). Shop for oil as prices may vary greatly. Go to your local Whole Foods store if price is not a concern (they should have it). Price there is probably going to be double if not triple of what you can get it for online but you will have it today.
Do not worry about Rainmate working with no water - It is safe.

I "won" a Rainmate from

No, not that I'm aware of. But, the problem itself, may be in the electrical receptacle. A loose wire, a bad connection or interior damage could all cause the circuit breaker to trip. Or it may simply be the case, of line that air purifier is plugged into, is simply overloaded, because of other electrical appliances are on the same circuit of tripped the circuit breaker. Most air purifiers have their on circuit breaker or fuse built-in to the unit. And that, will usually trip before the circuit breaker in the breaker panel of your home.

Here's how you test that theory: Plug the unit into another outlet, that is on an entirely different circuit than the original one and turn it ON. If this trips a different circuit breaker, then you know it's an internal problem with the unit. If it doesn't trip the circuit breaker, the problem is with the original receptacle or the line that feeds that receptacle and it's circuit breaker.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Rainbow Rainmate Air Purifier Looking for information if the aromas/oils are safe in households with birds! Also, where can one find the MSDS documents for the oils etc.

I'm not sure if this will help or not. I never thought about the aromas/oils possibly being bad for any birds in the house. I ran mine in the small room I use as an office and I have a parakeet in this same room. She didn't have any ill effects from it. So I would suppose it would be okay. That or I have a tough old bird (which she is).

How much water should i use

I run mine day and night while home and clean and re-fill it every morning. I also use one of the room odor eliminators in my Rainmate. Fill the water one inch above the line about an inch off the bottom of the water container.

Shortness of breath, coughing when working out near unit.

I think you've answered your own question: "symptoms cease when unit is turned off".
I don't want to be alarmist, and I certainly do not suggest that there is anything unsafe about the Breeze AT.  Nevertheless, this machine generates ozone, which is an upper respiratory tract irritant.  It is absolutely vital that you follow the manufacturer's instructions to the letter when operating it. Personally, I would never want to be in the same room as a working ozone generator (and I know of at least one ozone generator where the instructions specifically tell you to keep out while it's working).
Your machine may be on a setting where it is producing more ozone than is desirable. If you no longer have the manual, you can download a copy at www.ecoquest.com (click on the DOWNLOADS tab, then on OTHER on the green bar. The Breeze AT is in the Owner's Manuals list.).
If in doubt, play safe!

I was just wondering if the fragrances contain oil in them?

You simply remove the spindle and wash it out, and the spin wheel too if ot gets a build up. I use an antiseptic sort of smelling scent in mine and it helps capture dust. That is part of the build uop on the spindle. Simply turn it on the spin wheel and remove it and then wash it under hot water and let the hot water course through the spindle to clean it out.

Rainmate question

Hey im a dealer for Rainbow. RockyNR1 is correct but let me just add that you can fill it to over the line if you want as long as the 'misting' still happens, be careful not to place the machine too close to the edge of whatever it's on as it may fall off. The rainmate can be ran 24/7 (mine does :D)as a side note the only upkeep it should need (other than the water of course) is check the little hole on the bottem of the spinner. if that is ever clogged just punch it though with a toothpick.

Got Rainmate yesterday and either my house is REALLY clean or it isn't working

i had the same problem. The goo pulled from the air gums up the small orifice atthe bottom of the stem that sticks down into the water. If the water cannot be pulled up into the stem and expelled out towards the bowl at high speed, it cannot work. Take the upper, motor half off, unplug it hold the plate with one hand and twist the stem 1/4 turn and it comes right off. Clean the crud (yes, its your own skin cells) and the hole with warm water and soap. put it back together and refill with water and it works like new. this is now monthly maintenance for me
