SOURCE: 1995 geo tracker won't start.

DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY AND RECONNECT, THIS SHOULD RESET THE BRAIN.

ALSO...WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, LISTEN TO HEAR IF YOU CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COME ON...IF NOT, GUESS WHAT? HOPEFULLY NOT!... BUT,YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, IF YOU CAN'T HEAR IT WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, AFTER YOU'VE RESET THE BATTERY!

HOPE THIS HELPS!

SOURCE: how do you repair an

This is pretty common. You have a broken upper lock actuator. the FORD base part number is 3E723.
This is a plastic arm with gear teeth on it that has a steel pin in one end of it that connects it to the lower lock actuator (which actuates the ignition switch). It works sort of like a rack and pinion with the ignition lock cylinder. When you rotate the Lock cylinder, the teeth in the upper actuator engage with the teeth on the lock cylinder gear. This makes the lock actuator slide up and down inside the steering column. The problem is that the steel pin falls out of the thing and causes the problem you are now experiencing. When this happens, the upper lock actuator will not pull the lower actuator back up the steering column and turn the ignition switch off.

The part only costs about $9.00. The problem is that the steering column must be removed from the vehicle and completely disassembled to replace it. Unless you have been into many steering columns, I do not recommend trying this at home - especially if your truck is equipped with tilt steering.

If you look at the diagram below, the part that the person is holding in his hand is the part we are talking about. You can see at the lower (rounded) end of it where the steel pin goes in. The pin is "moulded" into the part and comes with the part listed above.

Engine won't shut down

Look on the back of the injector pump for a wire connection. If there is no wire there find it and reconnect it. If it is there, the ignition switch may not be stopping power to it.

98 chevy cavalier turns over but won't start

i know industry jargon can be confusing, but lets try this. if it turns over but won't start, it could be your ''ignition module'' that sits on top of the vave cover on the motor or it might be the fuel pump or filter. make sure when you crank the engine that the key is all the way turned or it may not always make a proper contact to activate the ignition module. iv'e seen this before & had to change the ignition switch & all worked ok after that. i would need to know engine lt size to give you more details on the matter. please get back to me.

My 96 yukon wil not start. Sounds like it will crank over but won't. It is not the fuel. I changed the ignition coil still won't start.

try spraying some carb cleaner into a vaccum hose and see if it will run. If so then you have ignition but no fuel delivery. If not then you have an ignition problem. make sure you hear the fuel pump hum when you turn the key to the run position. It should run for +/- 5 seconds then shut off. remove gas cap and listen for fuel pump operation through the fill hole. If you can hear the pump then you have a fuel injection issue. If the engine starts and runs for a few seconds then shuts off then you can suspect the crank or cam position sensor. The fuel pump runs through the oil pressure switch which could also be an issue.

Are you able to start the truck with application of the gas pedal?

When I turn on the vehicle the headlights and windshield wipers come on and won't turn off. When I turn the key off there is a delay before it actually turns off and the headlights won't turn off.

This sounds like an issue with your ignition switch. Basically what is happening here is that you are shutting off your vehicle, but the ignition switch is not working correctly and is allowing certain accessories to stay on.

Front right side hit . replaced concerter and won't crank over /or start fuel pump doesn'd even come on when key is on ?

ricks63toy, I believe that Ford still uses what is called an inertia switch even in the hybrids. This switch will shut off in the event of an accident shutting off the fuel pump. This is a safety feature built into the vehicle. Seeing that this is a newer vehicle I trust that you still have the manual. If not, the switches are usually located in the trunk. Look on the side walls of the trunk and see if you can locate it. It is usually marked by a sticker. When you find the switch, push the red button down until you hear a click. This will reset the switch and allow power back to your fuel pump. Good luck with this.

1993 gmc 1500 350cid - engine turns over but will not start. Fuel is good

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
If it's not turning over then the problem will be on the firing. If there's no current to the plugs, the engine won't fire up. Few things to look at to resolve the issue... First, the ignition coil can be faulty. Second, The ignition switch can be faulty. Third will be the starter. If it's faulty, it won't kick the flywheel. One good reason why it won't turn over.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
