Question about Canon ZR500 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
My computer does not recognize the device, even though my camcorder says "DV-in". How do I get my Windows 7 to recognize this ZR500 Camcorder?
ZR500 doesn't support windows 7 64bit. Your camcorder will say DV-in if plugged into any such input.

SOURCE: connecting camcorder to computer
if this doesnt have USB interface, you need a USB Audio and Video Combo Adapter. something like this http://www.computercablestore.com/USB_Audio_and_Video_Combo_PID1600.aspx for optimum video performace, use S video connector. let me know if you have question.

IF, your camcorder has FIREWIRE, than you can use that, and suitable DVR software. IF not, then I always recommend that, one use a TV/Video "Capture" card or USB "Dongle", either way, you simply connect that up, via, the AV, leads, usually S-VHS, or Composite, Or Component, or Firewire, Use a DVR, and basically, "Play" the "Video" and "Record" on the PC, with Digital Video Recorder, DVR, and save as a "Digital Format" then you can do whatever you wish, after recording. You can get propretory software from the manufacturers website, and download, drivers, and software to do as you wish. I recommend a program called Dscaler, it is the BEST DVR there is.

SOURCE: can get mt canon zr500
You have to use a firewire connection in order to transfer your videos. The cambera will not transfer the videos through the usb ports. There is no specific driver for Vista, and this isn't a driver issue. Use your firewire port and cable, and you should be fine.
Good luck,and hope this helps.
