The keyboard may still work for starting safe mode. Use the right shift while pressing F8 on startup. See if you can change some of the keyboard settings and restart. Then see what it does. You might have to check device manager if no change. It's a start.

Had an external keyboard unplugged it now laptop keyboard wont work right

Having an external keyboard won't disable the internal one, they will just work side by side. After removing the external KB the internal one will usually still work. So the two things don't seem to be related.
Assuming you are under Windows, press Win+R and enter the following:
devmgmt.msc
(press OK)
Make sure you don't have any yellow exclamation mark under the Keyboards section. If you don't, most likely your internal keyboard is bad and may need replacement. If you do, just select the keyboard with the exclamation mark (or any other sign), select Uninstall and reboot. After rebooting, check again. If you still have the mark, you might want to restore your OS

Can asus k42f be ugraded to windows 8?

Windows 8 has updated drivers as much as you would get from Asus built into win 8.

Go to devise MGR, if windows 8 did not load drivers, you will see a flag.

See what hardware did not load a driver and then use the win 7 driver.

You don't do anything to make a win 7 driver work, if the driver is newer, and signed it will install, if it's older then the driver windows installed, it won't install. If you see a flag and windows did not install a driver, then try the win 7 driver, or go to the MFG of the hardware and see if there is a win 8 driver.

You can also run windows update, if win update see's a newer driver out it might pick it up and give you a install option.

Now, your chipset, and most hardware has windows 8 drivers out.

The drivers are the biggest problem, the biggest problem for you is the BIOS was not set for windows 8.

So you could find even with the best drivers, win 8 slower or has bugs more then win 7 will have.

Me, I would bench test all the hardware with win 7, then with win 8 and see which one is better.

Upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 ,now storage device not showing.

Have you tried to shut down the computer, unplug the usd external drive, reboot the computer, plug in the USB external HDD the should apply the driver. That said, Have you tried a Thumb Drive or any other USB device in the USB ports? It's a common problem when upgrading a OS that Hardware issues popup. Open the Device Manager, Is your USB controller working? Enabled? Any other devices in error? Unknown devices? Use the Win 7 drivers for your computer found on the computer manufacturer's website. Change the compatibility on the driver for Win 8.

Acer 5570z keyboard is locked..Mouse works fine. Tried it in safe mode..keyboard still wont work..but mouse will...Even reloaded the operating system and keyboard still doesnt work..

Hook an external keyboard to the laptop, if okay! replace the laptop keyboard. If no change check bios setting to make sure the laptop is not disabled, and reset bios to factory default.

I have a Seagate ST3200822AS 200 GB Hard Drive(windows XP).I want to use this as external but I don't want it to mix with HD on new computer(windows 7). How do I keep them separate and run one or the other...

Is the Seagate ST3200822AS an External Drive ( like USB connectivity ) or actual Hard Drive ? Even if it is Internal Hard Drive, You can make connect it to Win 7 and still keep it as Seperate Drive.

Connect the Hard Drive to Win 7 PC and Make it Slave ( partition ) by changing the Jumper on the Hard Drive ( jumper is a small pin or a lock that makes a Hard Drive Primary or Slave.

Once you connect the HD to Win 7, you will find new Drives Created in Win 7, this way you will differentiate between the Win 7 Drives and XP Drives

This link will how you the jumper position : Remove the jumper from slot 1 and put it in slot 2
