Downgrading from Vista Basic to XP

Hi

Have you tried the "compatability" mode built into Vista. Also go to Microsfts site and search for answers as they now have better number of "fixes" to issues similar to yours.

How to downgrade vista to winxp pro at Hp pavilion DV4-1204TU ?

Well, this may make you think twice:

I bought a presario from circuit city last year, and I paid $200 to downgrade to XP. Everything was fine until it crashed last week. IT went completely bizzerk. HP won't provide support, cause I changed it. Circuit City is out of business, not much help there.

Basically, I am completely #$%%@@.

I am now paying to get Vista put back in. :-(

Yes you will get all the drivers here
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4315.html
However only Vista Premium and Vista Ultimate users can perform a direct downgrade. You can start a fresh installation from a bootable disk of WinXP. Be aware that this will replace the Vista with XP.

Downgrade from Vista TO Xp

Hi Bienana,

Steps must be taken in advance. Laptops are different from desktops. They have proprietary drivers that need to be available for boot or bad things happen. For example the CD-ROM won't be there any more. Then how will you load anything?

What you will have is a plastic rectangle that keeps asking for an operating system you can't install.

First, create a boot disk.
Second, create another boot disk.
Test them both. Make sure the CD works.

Now for some alternatives to formatting your hard drive.

Click here for a site thats offering Windows XP recovery CD's to those Vista owners that want XP. The offer is good through July 31, 2009.

Click here For the Toshiba site specifically for downgrading Vista to XP. It's a source for the drivers that inevitably don't get copied, what rights you have for which version and so on.

Both sites will give you some important insight before you take the plunge.

Downgrade vista to XP

If your laptop is under warranty try calling the support number. They may provide you with a recovery CD that has XP, or have you send it in to be reformatted with XP. If you have a friend with a full version of XP, you could ask to barrow it. Then enter the serial number from the Microsoft sticker on your PC. You will have to call Microsoft's 1800 number to verify and just tell them your downgrading to a previous version. Otherwise there is no legal way to put XP on your machine that I can tell you.

Toshiba A135-S4527 downgrade to XP

Let's start by not calling it a downgrade, Vista hasn't proven itself to be an upgrade yet.

I have litterally done hundreds of Vista to XP swaps at my shop. Don't be affraid to do an XP reload, manufacturers have realized the mistake of not offering XP drivers for thier hardware and now have them on thier site. Out of the machines I've reloaded with XP, I've only run into a couple of Acers that I had to break down to get the info from a video or sound card. You shouldn't have any problem loading it yourself.

XP Downgrade

You need to start windows setup straight from cd. To do so you may need to change the boot sequence from bios. You will also need a bootable windows xp cd (not the upgrade version). Setup xp as new installation. Ensure you can get all necessary drivers and software for windows xp.

Hint: Vista works fine if it has enough ram memory, and you wont lose your valid licence and all software provided with vista.

cheers
