Question about Compaq Presario CQ60-220US PC Laptop

1 Answer

I have a HP Pavilion g series laptop. The laptop was working fine, I closed the lid for a few minutes and it turned itself off and will not come back on. WHY?

I have already tried with power cord, taking the battery out and using only the power cord.. I simply don't know what else to try!

If your laptop won't turn on, you could have any number of problems. The problem might be a genuine power issue derived from either battery failure or simply a loose AC adapter. Conversely, it may only appear to be a power failure, and the problem may lie with another component. Errors in brightness settings and LCD display malfunctions can both make a laptop appear to be powered off, and all these problems will need to be corrected. Look at the battery indicator light on your computer. Is it on? If so, check your brightness settings. If your laptop appears that it is not on, it may in actuality have lowered brightness settings. If the brightness setting is at its lowest setting, the laptop screen will be completely dark, and the laptop will appear to be powered off, even though it is not. Try cranking up the brightness settings. Check your AC power adapter. Is it snugly plugged into the wall or surge protector? Make sure the connection is made and it is not loose. Also, try connecting the power adapter into a different wall outlet. Check the status of your laptop battery by considering how long you have had the same battery. Most modern batteries are only good for about 1,000 full charges. After that point, the battery can and eventually will greatly deteriorate. Replace your battery if necessary. Replace your battery by powering off your laptop and then flipping it over and locating the battery cover outline, which will be near the bottom back of your laptop. Remove any screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pop off the battery cover. Slide out the old battery. Put in the new battery by sliding it in until it clicks, and then replace the cover. Consider replacing your laptop monitor. Your laptop may power on, but if the monitor display does not work, it will appear to be off and you will not be able to operate the machine. Check to see if your current LCD display works by plugging your laptop up to an external monitor using a VGA cable. If the external monitor displays your computer contents, your computer motherboard and underlying systems are still working, but your display will need to be replaced. Replace an LCD display by removing the screws around the bezel of your current display with a Phillips screwdriver. Pop off the bezel carefully and remove it. Then, locate the screws on the two metal brackets beneath the bezel and on either side of the display, and remove these too. Disconnect the inverter cable, which is plugged into the inverter. The inverter is located just beneath the display, at the bottom-center of the laptop. Then, pull back and slide out the old display, and replace it with the new. Put the metal bracket screws back in place, reconnect the inverter cable, and then pop the bezel in place. Replace the bezel screws. Hope this helps.

have you checked or cleaned the battery Plug the adapter into the wall outlet or power strip. Most laptop power adapters have a small LED light; the light will illuminate when power is being transferred from the outlet to the adapter. If the light illuminates, chances are you have sufficient power to supply your laptop. Wiggle the power cord if the LED light did not initially illuminate. If the light turns on and off when you wiggle it, you might have a loose cord in the adapter, or the outlet could be faulty. Plug the adapter into another power outlet, preferably a different circuit in another room, if the LED light did not illuminate the first time. If it lights up from the second outlet, the first outlet either does not work or other devices were using too much power on the initial circuit.Connect the other end of the adapter to the laptop and turn the laptop on. When the computer starts up, you should see an indication of how the laptop is being powered in the lower right-hand corner. If you see a battery icon, then the laptop is being powered by the battery, not the adapter. Make sure both ends of the adapter are securely connected. If they are, and if the LED light on the adapter is lit, then you likely have a faulty wire that is not properly connecting to your computer. If you see a plug or adapter icon, then the laptop is successfully being powered by the adapter.

I am going to guess a bad connector in the laptop or a bad cable near the laptop on the power cube.

the hard drive was damaged. Inside the drive, the tiny moving head took the hit. They really are not designed to take shocks like that. Many laptop mfgrs offer "industrial" duty laptops that have on-board shock absorption suspension for hard drives.

When I turn on my HP dv9000 I get a constant loud beep. have to hit escape button to stop it several times

Re: dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 recall ubatz - Just got my laptop back from repairs a couple of days early. Cosmetically it's perfectly fine.

I kept the easy peel plastic on the lid, had an extra one and covered all around inside the keyboard (but not the keyboard itself). Got a page that says the LCD cable was fixed.

The rubber circles at the bottom of the LCD panel are pushed in at an odd angle but I'm afraid if I try to move them back, they're going to pop backward and disappear altogether behind the LCD.

I did order my Vostro last night and changed my sig file a few minutes ago to remove the DV9700T from it.

I haven't turned it on yet. Mixed emotions. Ah well.

Pavilion dv 1000 won't reboot, stand by nor turn off

I had this kinda problem solved on a Acer 5920 LAptop. The webcam driver was the culprit. Remove the cam driver for the same, the windows driver will take over and then i guess it will work fine. I figure its a driver issue or a TSR program not quitting. If this fails try uninstalling recently addes program or driver.

HP Pavilion dv1000 works fine on CRT but no LCD screen

Sounds like the LCD backlight or inverter went bad. More probably the inverter, and that's good because,of the two, it's usually cheaper and easier to replace.
Before considering those, check the lid switch to make sure that it is operating correctly and not stuck down.

Lid switch location??????????

HP DV 5000 LID switch location is here:
65cfd24.jpg

If You want test lid switch, just connect A+B together for a monent!
If the monitor flashes on...? Lid switch is faulty.
It is too dificult to change the lid switch, so the easiest way is connect these pins together forever. :))

Dont forget to turn off your notebook... he wont sleep anymore ;))

The screen goes blank at start up

If you can not see anything, then it may be your inverter (Replacement part cost is around $50.00), if you can see a dark image then your CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) is out. (Replacement part cost is around $15.00)
