Can't get plastic cover off starter relay in ge gbs22kbrbbb refrigerator

Can't figure out how to remove plastic cover from starter relay. It looks like there's a rectangular hole on top that I'm supposed to stick a screwdriver in, but there's only about and inch and a half between that and the side of the fridge.

The fan should be a standard 12v DC computer style fan , test that you are getting voltage to the fan connector . You should also be able to get the fan to run by connecting it to a suitable supply . Once you have eliminated the possibility of fan failure then it gets more involved.

SOURCE: ge fridge

Most likely it is the defrost heater. (it's that thing at the bottom of the coils with two wires leading from it.) To test it for sure, you'd have to use an ohm meter, but many times you can visually see that the heater is bad. Defrost the coils with a hair blower. If you don't have the heater on hand, the refrig will work fine for a week until you can replace the heater.

SOURCE: GE fridge: Freezer working but fresh food side not cold

The problem is the refrigeration evaporator, located in the freezer section is blocked with frost and ice and not air can pass through it. Four different failed parts can cause this problem. The defrost timer, the defrost heater safety thermostat, the defrost heater, or the evaporator fan motor. Unless you are very good with a volt-ohm meter, it wiil be difficult to distinguish which one of these parts has failed. A qualifed refrigeration service tech or a good appliance service tech with a refrigeration certification can find this quickly.

Install whirlpool starter/relay kit

you should of ordered part number 8201786 and this is the whole start device that slides onto the compressor, this replaces the overload and relay and it's around 60 dollars. unplug it,pop the clip off and remove the cover, slide off the device, read instructions, wire it,slide the device onto the three pins on the compressor, put the cover and clip back on and you're done.hope this helps and good luck with your machine

Freezer door was left open...everything thawed out even refrigerator side is warm. Fan was still on when I noticed door open. Took out all the food...closed door but no fan is on and it's...

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. The relay is a small usually black cube shaped electrical part plugged into the compressor or wired to it nearby. It may appear burnt or rattle when shaken if it's bad. The two connections should show continuity with an amp meter. If it's good then it's most likely the compressor causing the problem.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
If it's iced up really heavy you have an auto defrost problem. Melt the ice with a hairdryer and check the defrost system.

How to replace a starter for a 96 toyota 4runner, 4wd, 6cyl

  1. Connect the battery ammeter to the starter as shown in the illustration.

0900c15280060948.jpg enlarge_icon.gifenlarge_tooltip.gif

Fig. Fig. 4: Make the connections to the battery, ammeter and starter as shown here

  1. Check the rotation of the starter, it must be smooth and steady with the pinion gear moving outwards. Compare the ammeter reading to the starter specifications chart.

See Figure 5
Replacing the starter while the engine is cold is recommended. A hot engine can result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the nut and disconnect the battery cable from the magnetic switch on the starter motor.
  3. Disconnect the remaining electrical connections at the starter.
  4. Remove the nuts and/or bolts securing the starter to the bell housing, then pull the starter toward the front of the vehicle to remove.

To install:
  1. Insert the starter into the bell housing being sure that the starter drive teeth are engaged with the flywheel teeth, not jammed against the flywheel.
  2. Tighten the attaching hardware to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm) and replace all electrical connections.

Fig. Fig. 5: Exploded view of a common starter mounting found on Toyota trucks

  1. Connect the positive battery cable (starter wire) to the starter.
  2. Connect the negative battery cable.

See Figure 6
The starter relays on most of your Toyota trucks are located either in the relay block in the engine compartment or on the driver's side junction block. The cover for the relay compartments should be marked, "starter'' or the relay will have a part number with a suffix of 28300-XXXXX. Simply locate the relay, pull it out, and install a new one if needed.

GE profile bottom freezer refrigerator clicking

Your relay on the compressor is bad. It is called a PTC relay they are known to go out.

First be sure to unplug frig. Remove the cardboard cover that covers most backs of the units. Remove the plastic cover that is on the side of compressor. It is held on with a metal clip. Now you should be able to see the relay pry the relay straight off. note the wiring and position of relay. Only three prongs on compressor. Go to a parts house for appliance's and with your make and model number should be able to get a new one. Let me know if you need any more help. ken
