Question about Computers & Internet
I have a Toshiba Satellite m45-s331 laptop and a panasonic viera plasma HDTV. I am trying to stream my laptop through my television. I was wondering if I buy a S400 to HDMI cable and hook it up, if it will work. I understand I may have to install some drivers to recognize the connection but wasnt sure if the video card outputs audio and video through the S400 port.
This is my first time using this site, but I will try my best to assist you.
From what I understand, you want to connect your laptop display to your T.V. In turn using your T.V. as a "monitor".
So you were wondering if you could use a S400 to HDMI cable to accomplish this. Unfortunately I don't believe this is possible with that cable. To my best knowledge, S400 ports are only capable of transferring DATA between devices, not VIDEO. A VGA or HDMI cable will accomplish what you want. I don't think your laptop has a HDMI port, so I recommend buying a male-to-male VGA cable.
I looked up your T.V. and it looks it should have a VGA input port. This is what I did for my laptop and 32 inch LCD T.V. when i accidently cracked my laptop's screen.
It may not be High Definition, but you should be able to get fairly decent resolution. Make sure your T.V. is on the "Computer" input channel. (Or equivalent)
I don't recommend buying a VGA to HDMI cable converter as it usually doesn't result in improved quality.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

If you get your wallpaper to show on your TV, then you should be almost there.

If your computer has a VGA port on the side then it has video out. I've never seen a laptop without one but I guess that does not mean they don't exist :) I'm not sure what model of Viera you have, but the one that comes up on Amazon has a VGA input built in. If yours does then a simple old school monitor cable from a desktop computer will do the trick.
Here is a good one cheap:
If not, you can buy a VGA adapter:
Also, if you want audio to play through the tv/stereo, you will need to get a cable to carry audio as well. This is what you will be needing:
The stuff I linked to are for 25' so you can hide the cables around the room from wherever you would be sitting but you get the idea.
If it gives you hope, I did this with my Fathers compaq laptop to his panasonic 50" plasma and it worked great!

Youll need a regular VGA cord and a 3.5mm to RCA conversion audio cable from Radio Shack like the one below.
forget going the HDMI route, it isn't worth the money youd have to spend on a converter. once you got your cables hooked up, consult this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/northrup_multimon.mspx

If you are using windows, try going to the screen resolution page(right click desktop and click properties and then click the last tab for xp, or right click desktop and click personalize and then screen resolution. There you should see two black rectangles. Click the second one(he one that's grayed out) and set a resolution in the dropdown menu. Then the tv should show your computer screen. You can also fool around with the resolutions. Good luck!
