Amana fridge freezer AS2628HEKB fridge warm & freezer frosty inside

This sside by side fridge freezer is warm in the fridge no sound & the freezer is working but a lot of frost at back of the freezer. Inside the fridge when you remove the cover off the control on the left there is a kind of circuit board which is burnt out. I have removed everything & let fridge defrost. But is this a "jazz board" problem I have heard that mentioned a few times or freezer defrost problem?.

The board should be replaced before the unit will operate properly. Be sure to check out all circuits to make sure there is not some kind of short. If there is, it may burn out the new board also.

SOURCE: Need to defrost behind freezer since fridge won't work.

Hi, If the vent is plastic, it most likely snaps into place. If you look in the middle of the vent, there is a small tab holding it in.
Since you are needing to defrost this, do you know what to test to find out which part is bad?
I hope this helps and, if you need assistance testing the defrost, please let me know.

SOURCE: MSD2456DE - fridge side warm

Forcing the frig into a defrost cycle may not solve this problem long term. The old fridgs had a sliding door which bled cold air from the freezer into the fresh food compartment which you simply adjusted to keep your fresh food compartment at more or less the proper temperature. This simple manually operated sliding door has now been replaced by a motor actuated sliding door that is controlled by the fresh food compartment thermostat. On Whirlpool side by side fridges, the door has, for some reason, been designed so that the sliding door itself will shear or break if the door encounters an obstruction such as ice in the sliding track. Those geniuses designed it so that the door will always fail in the CLOSED position. This means that if this door breaks, the door letting cold air from the freezer into the fresh food compartment will stay closed and not permit any cold air to enter the fresh food compartment and all your food will spoil. The stupid fridge, will continue to run and run because the thermostat in the fresh food compartment will continually call for more cold air, which is just not available due to the broken door. Eventually, the freezer coils will completely ice up and you will see frost on the outside of the panels that cover the coils. If the door is broken, defrosting the freezer will NOT result in any cooling of the fresh food compartment because the door is closed. To check, use a mirror to see if the door is open. The door is typically on the upper back corner of the fresh food compartment on the freezer side. It will have louvers on it. Using a mirror and a flashlight, you should be able to see if the door is open. If it is closed, using a small screwdriver, you should be able to move it open (unless it's iced up). If you can easily move it open with the screwdriver, the door is definitely broken. At this point you have two alternatives. One is to replace the unit and be very careful about too frequent door openings and overloading the frig with food that is warmer than room temperature. These motor controlled units are not cheap. I should know having bought three of them before getting smarter. The other alternative is to attempt to rebuild and/or repair the sliding door assembly. Dis-assembly is accomplished by carefully cutting off the styrofoam front with a box cutter or something similar. This will expose the door and motor assembly. You can either try and glue another piece of plastic where the readily identifiable broken piece was, or attempt to fabricate a whole new door from a suitable piece of plastic. In any case, finish the job by applying lots of silicone lubricant to the door and door tracks to keep it from sticking again. Simply taping on the styrofoam front is good enough till the next time. I hope this helps you with your problem.

SOURCE: Freezer frosty and fridge warm.

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: defrost stat heaters evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck & thanks for using fixya! Mike

Did you also check the defrost thermostat? That may be the only part you missed. Any time I change a defrost heater I make a simple habit of replacing the defrost thermostat. Sea Breeze

My may tag fridge GS2126PADB seems to run fine but the freezer is not blowing cold air and fridge & freezer are warm.

There are more than reason: first check the fan in the upper part of the freezer (you have to unscrew 3 bolts of the cover),second check the freezer door sealing, third is to check that the cooling tubes inside the freezer are cold enough without heavy snow (you have to unscrew about 6 bolts of the cover),Heavy snow reduces cooling and it means that the timer is not working or the heater is not working.I hope to help you in reform

Bottom half of fridge and freezer are cold top half warm?

This sounds like an air flow issue, If your freezer fan is running still you may have a defrost problem starting in the freezer cooling coils. This will cause the cold from the freezer to back flow into the bottom of the fridge and only the lower half of the freezer to keep very cold.
Most likely culprit for defrost issues would be the terminating thermostat (inside freezer behind back wall and clips to top of coils).
Good luck and let me know if you need more help!

Did you leave the freezer running while you cleaned the fridge? Warm air from the outside latches onto the cold frosty areas and has stopped the fan or auger. Suggest you switch off unit and defrost completely. Then retry.

My amana bottom freezer won't cool both the fridge and freezer are warm

I just had the same problem with the same fridge. When I removed the inside panel in the freezer, I found that the cooling/circulation fan had fallen due to the mounting screws having rusted off. I removed the fan housing to get the screw ends out from the back side and remounted the fan with new screws. The fridge and freezer both work fine now and I'm assuming it will for many more years until it happens again.
