Question about Dishwashers

Bosch SHX4605UC/30 dishwasher won't turn on

There was a wire nut burned through in the box where the power cord ties in. The breaker wasn't tripped but after replacing the wire nut and checking that there is power to the dishwasher it still will not turn on.

Since you have power to the dishwasher, check to see if there is a push button reset, there could also be a fuse blown.

SOURCE: led wont light up. no power to dishwasher

Measure for 115 volts AC at the junction box behind the front lower panel where the incoming power connects to the washer wiring. If ok, you will need a wiring diagram of the washer to go further.

SOURCE: I have a Bosch she44c dishwasher that I used just

Hi,

In some cases, the heat element lining wears out and the element shorts out to the chasis of the dishwahser, thus tripping your fuse.

In other cases, the dishwaser leaks water, and shorts out an electrical component.

It is best to get a repairer to check this out for you.

We sold our bosch dishwasher, working perfectly. New owners transported it on its back. Now it won't start, or even show that it is getting power, though the outlet works. What has happened?

Hello KT;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Transporting the dishwasher on its back should not have been a problem. It is only with refrigerators and freezers that need to be transported up right, to prevent compressor oil getting into the refrigerant sealed system.

You may have a power cord problem. You have a 3 or 4 wire power cord. If you have a 3 wire power cord you need a 15 amp circuit breaker. If you have a 4 wired power cord you need a 30 amp circuit breaker.

The wall socket that you are plugged into my not have a ground.

You need to check the wall socket and the wire connects at the dishwasher. Send me a model number so I can see what you have. If you have a 4 wire connection you can chance the cord to a 3 wire. On a three wire you have a neutral and two hot with a small green ground wire. On a 4 wire you have a neutral two hot wires and a neutral in the center with a ground wire.

I would put my money on the wall socket not having a ground.

Send me a model number and I will help you.

Hi gwmkjm,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: YOUR BOSCH DISHWASHER MODEL #SHU43C06UC/17 WILL NOT START. NONE OF THE LIGHTS TURN ON AS IF THERE IS NO POWER GETTING TO IT. YOU HAVE CHECKED THE POWER CORD AND THE BREAKER BOX AND EVERYTHING IS O.K., BUT YOU STILL CAN NOT GET IT TO TURN ON. AT ONE TIME THE LED LIGHT LIT UP FOR A BRIEF SECOND, BUT NEVER AGAIN. ANY OTHER SUGGESTION?

Yes. 9 times out of 10 it's a loose or broken wire in the d/w junction box under the d/w behind the kick plate on the right. Make sure to turn off the electric before you expose the wirenuts. Remove them and install new.

No power lg dishwasher

A large dishwasher should have a dedicated circuit breaker in the circuit breaker panel, check to see if the breaker is on, tripped, or off, it should be on. If it is on, remove the panel cover and check for power coming out of the circuit breaker, if there is power coming out of the circuit breaker, check for power at the dish washer. Checking for power at the dishwasher may involve pulling the connector cord if any and check the power outlet for power, if there is no power outlet and the dishwasher is hard wired into an electric box, the electric box needs to be opened and the wires need to be tested for power, involving removing the wire splice nuts or wire nuts. Once the power is verified to the dishwasher and the washer is still with no power, a fuse should be sought inside the dishwasher control panel or that the power feed wires are properly spliced. A voltage testor is needed to test for power. electric shock hazard on live wires, please be carefull or call out a electrician or handyman if power testing skill is questionable.

I have a shu43 bosch dishwasher and the whole machine is dead. No power. The circuit breaker is good but I would have to pull the dishwaher out to check the outlet. Is there an internal fuse?

There is no internal fuse (at least I've not seen or replaced any) on Bosch dishwashers. The most typical problems for Bosch are: 1) one of the power cord connections to the internal wiring is corroded and doesn't make a contact; or 2) the power button has failed.

The number one is so far the most common problem. To check: Turn off the power to the dishwasher by any means necessary. Remove the kick panel on the bottom. There should be a small metal box with power cord and 2 or 3 wires coming into it. Remove screw(s) holding the cover on that box. There should be 2 or 3 wires connected to the power cord wires by wire nuts. Any burnt insulation or wire nut will be the problem area. Cut burnt wires, remove 1/2" of insulation and clean of both connecting wires to bare copper. If you have an electrical contact grease - apply to copper. Install new wire nut.

Good luck,

The dishwasher will not turn on. I've already checked my breaker box, and nothing seems to be wrong there with the dishwasher. It worked a few days ago, but now all of a suddden seems to have died.

I would first take a look inside the junction box were the power cord connects to the dishwasher. The junction box is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and can be access by removed the toe plate.
I have seen were one of the wire nuts that connect the power cord will come loose or burn off.
If the power cord is connected ok then I would check the thermo fuse with a ohm meter to see if it's blown.

Repairman says it is getting no power. The circuit is fine. Could the box inside the dishwasher need to be replaced. He said he isn't an electrician.

Sometimes the wire nuts come loose inside the connection box due to vibration. I have
also seen them burn through (when aluminum wire is connected to the dishwasher).
The power to the circuit should be shut off at the breaker panel and checked with
a "Non Contact voltage detector" before removing cover to inspect wire connections
in the connection box. The non contact detector is sold at many big box home
improvement stores for around 12 dollars. I recommend it since many breakers are not
marked at the panel or incorrectly marked, and the wiring can contact the chassis if
the wire nuts are burnt through. Check the detector at a working outlet prior to using.
Hope this helps.

Am interested in buying bosch 500 series dishwasher, but notice power cord and water cord are not included. I currently have a kitchenaid DW, can I just use same cords, or do I need to purchase new cords...

you should be able to use same cord. I would use 14 guage wire will run 15amp.
it will probably say 14/2 or 14/3 on the wire.
I would say your old wire is right. make sure you find the breaker for the dishwasher and turn off power before you work on it.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

**Before I begin I will inform you B/S/H/ ( Bosch Thermador, Gaggenau ) issued a recall on certain models between 1999 - 2006 depending on the serial number.** Here's the link so you can see for yourself.

http://microsites.boschappliances.com/safetyrecall/dishwasher/

Aside from that and based on your post "my bosch shu43co5 made a burning smell and stop working in middle of a wash the breaker seems to be fine" it may just be a loose/burnt connection in the dishwasher junction box.

**Now I would start by first shutting off the breaker...safety first**

Then removing the kick plate ( access panel at the bottom )...

macmarkus_133.jpg

...and checking the wiring at the junction box for the dishwasher 120vac supply line.

Remove the murret's and visually inspect the wire for "resistance burn" and strip the wires back and install new fastener's if necessary to repair.

i.e.

60f6a31.jpg

This is actually quite common to find a wire connector come loose due to improper fastening and once the unit is in use for a while the connections heat & cool, become loose from normal operating vibrations and burn up from all the added heat caused by "resistance".

Typically this will manifest in just the manner you've described.

Let me know what you find and I'll try to assist you further if necessary. I'd still suggest looking into the possible recall for your machine though.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Hey daddy1264! You hit the solution right on the head. This is what was wrong with mine. The repair man came in and before he even looked at the dishwasher he guessed that this was the problem. There is a little more though... although ceramic wirenuts will not burn, they will become very hot.. That is why Bosch has a little steel box around the connection. Technically you are wireing 12 gauge wire from your house connection to what is supposed to be 12 gauge wire in the dishwasher. The reality is that in order to be a "greener machine" it has a certain percentage of recycled materials, including the wireing. Although the dishwasher wire is 12 gauge in thickness, it is more likely the equivelant of a 14-16 gauge wire in purity of alloys. The result is the massive amount of heat generated by the starving washing machine's draw. This will also lead to a shorter life for the dishwasher.
