Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Printer saying there is a printerhead carriage jam. There doesn't appear to be any obstruction and ink cartridges do not need replacing. Any ideas?

Manually checked for any obstruction, printerhead does not appear to be jammed. Also checked ink cartridges - which do not need replacing.

SOURCE: Printer keeps saying carriage jam

I hate to state the obvious, but maybe your printer has a carriage jam. Fortunately, HP.com publishes a web page that can tell you how to clear the problem:

Good luck.

SOURCE: Printer keeps saying ''carriage jam error''...

Friends,

The encoder strip may also be dirty, this causes the printer to believe that the carriage moves less than it actually does and tries to compensate by moving the carriage even further - slamming into the left side of the printer as a result.

Carefully leaning the encoder strip with a lint-free cloth wetted with luke warm water (it should not drip!) can fix this problem.

If the carriage stays in the middle of the printer and doesn't move, the carriage drive belt may be broken. Usually this is not replaced so the printer unfortunately has to be scrapped. But contact your local HP support for further advice.

Ink cartridge jam

Try cleaning the carriage bar. This is a shiny rod that the ink carriage slides back and forth on. Wipe it off with a clean rag and put a drop or two of light oil on the rod. The carriage should move easily back and forth.

Hello. My Epson Stylus CX 4200 now flashes the letter E and all the lights flash, including "error." How do I get it working again?

here's what you can do:-disconnect the printer from the computer-turn off the printer-inspect for anything foreign inside like jammed paper-turn the power back on-remove the ink cartridge-check the chip connnector at ink tank and at head carriage. If its dirty clean it with soft moist cloth. -check the status monitor. which ink tank not recognized. -press ink light (1-4 times) depends on number ink tank not recognized, press 1 time again, carriage will move co replacement position, unplug and plug again all ink tank, press ink light 1 more.
if that doesn't work, replace ink cartridge ONLY if you have a spare. DO NOT BUY new ink as the printer is bound for repair.

Sounds as if there is a small bit of paper jamming it. Also, if it is just out of the box, make sure you haven't missed any of the packaging tape that is used to secure everything.

Alarm message says "cartridge jammed". Does that

What you see moving is the print carriage. The carriage moves the cartridge, adjacent to the printhead, back and forth.
Although the carriage is moving, the ink cartridge can not dispense ink because an obstruction is
blocking the path of the ink.
Remove the ink cartridges, inspect the cartridges as well as the cartridge holders for any foreign debris and reinstall.
If the alarm message continues, I suggest changing the ink cartridges.

I have a carrier jam on my dell 944 printer

Hi,

Printers have small paper flags (plastic levers) that tell the printer where the paper is, also if the motor that drives the inks up and down the metal bar inside cannot turn (due to an obstruction) you will get carriage jam. Open the lid and check the ink carriage moves up and down freely (maybe the ink cartridge has popped out slightly).

Also see if you cand see these little flags and make sure they move up and down ok. Sometimes they work on a tiny spring that pops out.

If there is no obstruction and you can move the carriage by hand (with the power off of course) and it still says carriage jam then i always have a lot of luck by lubricating the carriage bar (shiny steel bar) with some WD40 or other oil.

Hope this help.
Cheers!!!!!

Remove ink cartridge

I found that the proper way to do it only worked when the ink light was flashing red. Then when I pressed the stop button it moved across and stopped beneath the marker to show which cartridge needed changing. The I pressed the stop button again and it moved to a place where I could change it.
This happened despite the fact that the pictures I was printing blatently showed that I needed to replace my ink, it wasn't until I had printed the liney pictures a few times that the printer decided the ink level was low enough to turn the flashing light on and let me change it.

Carriage jam on HP Officejet J5780 All-in-One

We have several of these in our company and the most common "Carriage Jam" cause is a glob of black ink in the bay on the right side. Once glob is removed, and "Carriage Jam" message appears again, press OK, and it prints fine from then on. Today the black ink glob was flat on top. Watch out for leaky cartridges, as the design of the particular HP device provides a nice catch pan for the tri-color ink cartridge, but not for the black one, so a leaky cartridge, besides being expensive and wasteful, can goop up the bay causing the carriage jam error message to try to get you to take a closer look.
