Hi! I had the same problem. Press the pause button on the RECORDER for 5 seconds and the progressive light will go off. Not the remote, the recorder.
Hi I have the same issue. What do you mean by pause button on the RECORDER? There is not pause button on the Recorder, I tried use remotes pause button, but no luck. Please help.
I had a very similar problem but mine got stuck on DVD 1 and I could not get the System Menu to come on. I read the whole manual from front to back. Holding the Pause button and the DVD button did not work. Neither did unplugging the unit. But I discovered (pg. 26 of manual) that there is a COMMAND MODE switch which can get you out of the Progessive Mode or DVD 1 mode. If you look at your remote, on the bottom there is a panel that you can slide down. Look at the very bottom right - there is a tiny little switch and you should have the factory label over it that says Do Not Remove. Gently peel back the label, being careful not to remove it entirely and move that switch to the LEFT. Voila! Everything works. You may have to go back and re-set everything the way it was before manually but now you have access to the System Menu to do that! Now if I can only get this to work with my digital converter I'll be in good shape. GL.
Thank you so MUCH batata!!!! Same proble, SOLVED!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your suggestion. I read the instructions in the book that came with the VCR and it states the same thing you suggest. However,, the book says to push the pause button repeatedly for 5 seconds. You say push the pause button for 5 seconds. Do you mean push and hold the pause button for 5 minutes? I am so dumb when it comes to reading instructions. Please help. The VCR is at home and I can not wait to try your suggestion. Thank you so much.
My RDR-VX530 is also stuck in progressive mode. The tv display is now blank and this recorder is now a brick. I tried unplugging the unit for 3 hours, holding down the power button for a minute, holding down both the channel up/down buttons and holding down the pause button. Nothing resets the unit so I can get back into setup. How can I reset this box to the factory default settings?
SOLUTION: I had the same problem after forcing progressive setting when I shouldn't.
Manual's solution on hint, page 102, works IIF you THEN turn off the unit, wait 10 seconds, and then turn on the unit.
Forced progressive (dumb, I know) and it stayed there. I concur with previous post: There is no pause button on the DVD side of the recorder. Because the screen is solid black, I cannot get the System Menu to display. Just before the progressive LED indicator comes on the digital readout in the from displays "LINE 2" and then everything goes black. Serious engineering flaw (me and the machine both). Since there is only one button that says pause, I'll give that a shot. Ah-HA! The pause button works for both DVD and VCR mechanisms and activating the DVD button sets the operation for that side. Good point about turning off the power after holding the Pause button. I hel Pause for 30 seconds and waited 30 seconds after turning off the power to ensure full discharge inside the equipment. Thanks folks. I'm out of the doghouse!
