Thank you for your suggestion. I read the instructions in the book that came with the VCR and it states the same thing you suggest. However,, the book says to push the pause button repeatedly for 5 seconds. You say push the pause button for 5 seconds. Do you mean push and hold the pause button for 5 minutes? I am so dumb when it comes to reading instructions. Please help. The VCR is at home and I can not wait to try your suggestion. Thank you so much.

My RDR-VX530 is also stuck in progressive mode. The tv display is now blank and this recorder is now a brick. I tried unplugging the unit for 3 hours, holding down the power button for a minute, holding down both the channel up/down buttons and holding down the pause button. Nothing resets the unit so I can get back into setup. How can I reset this box to the factory default settings?

SOLUTION: I had the same problem after forcing progressive setting when I shouldn't.

Manual's solution on hint, page 102, works IIF you THEN turn off the unit, wait 10 seconds, and then turn on the unit.

Forced progressive (dumb, I know) and it stayed there. I concur with previous post: There is no pause button on the DVD side of the recorder. Because the screen is solid black, I cannot get the System Menu to display. Just before the progressive LED indicator comes on the digital readout in the from displays "LINE 2" and then everything goes black. Serious engineering flaw (me and the machine both). Since there is only one button that says pause, I'll give that a shot. Ah-HA! The pause button works for both DVD and VCR mechanisms and activating the DVD button sets the operation for that side. Good point about turning off the power after holding the Pause button. I hel Pause for 30 seconds and waited 30 seconds after turning off the power to ensure full discharge inside the equipment. Thanks folks. I'm out of the doghouse!

Hi! I had the same problem. Press the pause button on the RECORDER for 5 seconds and the progressive light will go off. Not the remote, the recorder.

I had a very similar problem but mine got stuck on DVD 1 and I could not get the System Menu to come on. I read the whole manual from front to back. Holding the Pause button and the DVD button did not work. Neither did unplugging the unit. But I discovered (pg. 26 of manual) that there is a COMMAND MODE switch which can get you out of the Progessive Mode or DVD 1 mode. If you look at your remote, on the bottom there is a panel that you can slide down. Look at the very bottom right - there is a tiny little switch and you should have the factory label over it that says Do Not Remove. Gently peel back the label, being careful not to remove it entirely and move that switch to the LEFT. Voila! Everything works. You may have to go back and re-set everything the way it was before manually but now you have access to the System Menu to do that! Now if I can only get this to work with my digital converter I'll be in good shape. GL.

I would like to make a copy from my video tape to a DVD How do I do it?

Turn on the TV and set it to the video source to be able to easily see the menus as you set up the dubbing process. Put the source tape you want to record in the VCR. (Copy protected tapes will not be dubbed.) If you want to avoid dubbing from the DVD to the VHS tape, remove the erase protection tab from the cassette. Put a compatible recordable disc (non-finalized disc, unprotected disc) in the recorder and make sure there is sufficient available capacity on the disc.

Press Rec Mode/Speed to set the speed (SP, LP, SLP, or XP). Press DVD/VCR and set the unit to VCR mode. Confirm the mode with the indicator light on the unit. Press Dubbing and the mode should switch to DVD automatically. Select Yes (with the left/right arrows) and press Enter to start the duplication. The unit should indicate the VCR playback, dub and DVD recording are in progress. Press Stop to halt the dubbing process or it will stop when the unit reached the end of the tape or the disc is full.

The dubbing button is only on the remote control; if your original remote isn't working make sure that your replacement remote has the feature. Remotes.com often has exact or substitute remotes with the matching features. Search just by the model number not the brand.

BTW: the manual is available here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/26967/SANSUI-DVD-VCR-Combo-L0311311?brand_name_search=sansui+VRDVD4005 .

I hope this helps.

Magnavox DVD/VCR player stuck in progressive scan mode

Right, mine was stuck for a couple of weeks and i tried lots of different things. What worked for me was plugging it out and in again. Press the power switch and then just before the tv switches from normal mode to dvd recorder press the eject button. However, I pressed it a few time so not exactly sure which one worked.
The burned DVD is now in a thousand pieces at the bottom of my bin!
Good Luck!
