Geforce 8600 GTS recent drivers cause random freezes using vista

Updated drivers about 6 months ago and since then I have random computer freezes requiring reboot. Computer may work for several hours and then just freezes. I've tried all drivers currently on Nvidia site but can't find one older than when my problem started. Hardware or driver issue?

Hello,

Are you sure that it's the driver that's causing it?

I suggest that you run an anti-virus scan. It might have been caused by a virus infection in your computer.

You can also try using RadarSync to scan your computer for driver problems (outdated drivers), then you can google the drivers and install. RadarSync will give recommendations. If you want RadarSync to do all the things for you, then you can buy the license.

I hope this helps!

Did you try installing and updating the driver of the graphics card dedicated to the operating system "VISTA" ? Sometimes there is some difference between vista's driver and XP's driver.

Most like the sound card you have is not compatible with Windows Vista. You need to check the manufacturers website to see if there is any patch for Windows Vista

try downloading " Driver Magician ". This searches for and updates all drivers on your system. There is a small fee for registration but this has been a God-send for me.

Well if you installed the correct drivers for your video card and have the proper power supply requirements, then the vertical lines you're getting most likely indicate that your video card is bad.

Try it in another computer if available, or get another video card.

Autocad 2007 causes PC to freeze, may be graphics card related?

I feel you are right on target with the Video. I was thinking you could back off on video accelerator .
right click open area of the desk top-right click-properties-settings-advance-troubleshoot...
then take your slide about half way back and click apply and ok....
I would try and resteat the vid card and give the drivers another shot, if you can download them from another source such as major geek.com
hope this helps...please leave rating

1. Download this driver.
2. Go to the Control Panel, Programs and uninstall the current nvidia driver.
3. Shut down computer.
4. Remove video card and re-install it.
5. Start computer and install new nvidia driver.
