Electrical wire gets hot to outlet

Wire always heats up when the amount of current flowing through the wire is more than what it is rated for. For example a lamp cord is usually between 16 awg - 12 awg, and If some one is to screw a 200 watt incandescent light bulb into a lamp with a 16 awg cord, It would be hot to the touch.

100 amp federal pacific stab-lok panel. It has a 70 amp main breaker, can I up-grade to 100amp? 41 year old home, copper wire, many empty slots in panel

I would recommend replacing the panel. You will pay just as much for one breaker as you would for a new panel. Please up grade ....Federal Pacific is not a safe panel to have. Breakers are know for not tripping. Please research to gain knowledge on FP...Jim

Give the allowable number of wire for each conduit sized listed below. size wire 15mm(1/2) 20mm(3/4) 25mm(1 inch) No. 2.0mm(No.14 AWG) No. 3.5mm(No 12 AWG) No....

The fill would depend on the wire type because the type of insulation determines teh circular mills of the conductor here are some examples though of THHN,THWN,THWN-2 wire.
Based on NEC2008 Annex TableC.1
1/2" (16mm)conduit=12-#14THHN,9-#12THHN,5-#10THHN,3-#8THHN,2-#6THHN

Just installed new steam shower, it produces steam for about 5 minutes and then blows the fuse

Based from your comments, a new steam shower that blows the fuse in five minutes. You could have installed a new steam shower that is much bigger than what you previously have.
1. For a 5000 watts steam shower at 220 volts
power must have a fuse rating of 40 amps, supply
wires of at least No. 6 AWG Type THW ; and at
110 volts a fuse rating of 80Amps, supply wires
of at least No. 2 AWG type THW.
2. For a 4000 watts at 220 volts, Fuse: 30 amps,
Supply wire: No. 10 AWG type THW. At 110volts
60 amps, Supply wires : No. 4 AWG Type THW
3. For a 3000 watts at 220 volts, Fuse: 20 amps
Supply wire: No. 10 AWG type THW; At 110volts
Fuse: 40 amps, Supply wire: No. 6 AWG THW
4. For a 2000 watts at 220 volts, Fuse: 15 amps
Supply wire: No. 10 AWG THW and at 110 volts
Fuse: 30 amps, Supply wire: No, 8 AWG THW

10/3 or 12/3

Nozzle,

AWG Ampacity from table 450-5b of the National Electric code states the maximum ampacity;

12 AWG = 20 Amps
10 AWG = 30 Amps
8 AWG - 80 Amps

According to this, an electrician would pull 10/3 (or 8/3) for a dryer service because 12/3 is not allowed (by LAW) for this application.

Hope this helped,
SG
