VLC Media does not play the file at all. It simply opens the file and the bar quickly goes along to the right, no sound or footage. GSpot does not give me any info, it displays only: File Type: Unknown and Mime Type: Unknown.

This fix was posted by Janek in this topic:

ANSWER:
Having being frustrated and looking everywhere for almost 10 hours straight I had accumulated enough imformation on all 2048 error occurances I could write a book. So since it seems no one has written an affermative answer. I’ll post what worked after my research.

1st: I must thank all internet users out there because It wouldn’t have worked if not for them. They gave me hope!

To start:

Rename all your files that quicktime can’t read, to .wmv all occurances of the -2048 error come from codec misuse by the mis-naming of the 'quicktime' files.

Then download any transcodal translator. I used VLC Player, which can do pretty much anything.
VLC Site: — > http://www.videolan.org/

Once downloaded you’ll find it can play your 'broken files'.
Proceed to click on File — >Streaming/Exporting WIzard...

Go through: 'Transcode/Save to file'

Then: Select either select streaming file from location:
Or:
Select File from existing playlist. (Open(ed) files)

Last: Select how you want it TRUELY encoded as anything from mpeg4 video and audio to DivX to H. 264 to Theora REMEMBER: select the transcode buttons.

(Don’t forget bitrate has an extreme importance the more bits the higher quality but it comes at a price as the video becomes larger. It won’t be 100% quality, maybe 95% max; usually around 85 - 90% normal quality.)

Next: select your encapsulation method you want this to match your codec so please match them, it causes less problems.

Almost Done: Select a save location and wammo your done!

Hi,
Error code 2048 refers to Bad Encoding.
There are certain coding that Initial or default download do not have. You need to download coding for Quicktime from websites like :-
http://www.download.com
 Or
You can directly uninstall the previous/installed version and download the latest version that have all the codes you require to play .mov files.

The link for the UPDATED Quicktime is :-

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Copy the above link, paste it into the browser ,Enter.
Install and it would fix your issue.
Thanks and Regards, Taran. ( 24 by 7 Support )

Use a program like GSpot to see which video codec was used to create the file. Once you find that, install that codec on your PC.

Another suggestion I found was to play it using VideoLan:

May I suggest the possibility that your MOV file is corrupted. I would look at a utility to recover or repair the video from the file you are dealing with.

    Here are some links:
    http://video.software.informer.com/downl...

I don't know if VirtualDUB can open MOV files (I think it is primarily AVI files), but you could try that too to see if that may work

  1. Get the latest quicktime available http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
  2. Install FFDSHOW http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDshow.htm
  3. Verify the file is undamaged and working.
You could email me the file and I could look into if its not too big.

    Hi again,

as we have discussed about this over email.

The Mov file is a empty container, there is noting inside the file.
    it is filled with 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 60 MB of 00 00 00.

There is no video, no data, no noting to read on the file. you need to contact the person and get a new copy of the file.

  • Ekse Feb 09, 2009

hi again jaymie, I downloaded the mov file again. and it still is full of zero zero zero

and to compair the internal contents of the mov file to another one that is working.

and below it is another fully working movie file which is anything else but 00

Quicktime

Hi,

You can try the following,

1) Navigate to library, it will be in your main drive.
2) Remove all files from the QuickTime*.PKG, where "*" is your version number. This tells you that those packages are not installed.
3) Click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.

4) Restart the computer.

Cannot view the movies I made on my camera and downloaded to my Vista PC

I assume you can view them in you camera, right? If not, the following solution will not help.

The .MOV Apple QuickTime format Panasonic uses for its camera movie clips cause problem on with viewing, as seen from several other problem posts here and the net.

Some computer use a Win 32Bit operating system, other better ones use a Win 64. It is hard to believe QuickTime would let you load a 64bit version into a 32bit OS, or vice versa. But who knows. Rather double clicking on te file name itself, open QuickTime, then go to File Open and Browse to the file and select it that was. If this doesn't work, go to QuickTime website and try their User Forums first to ask a question or find a thread talking about movie files not playing. Else, CONTACT website and ask question. Post any solution here for readers.
