I could not find information about this old 30 # scale. It looks like a mechanical scale containing a large coil spring and a number of levers that attach to the spring. With that in mind you need to open it up and look inside. Once you see if the readout is fully functional you will need to find the screws to adjust it using dumbbells or bar lifting weights at 10 or 15 # intervals.

SOURCE: need manual to reset scale to weigh properly

Either do a search for that particular scale brand & model, which should take you to the company, whom should have a manual on-line or go back under search and type in "users manuals". There should be several manual websites that come up. Just don't click on the websites that require money for their manuals, when you can get them for free at other sites.

Take a 5 pound bag of sugar, flour or what have you. Put it on the scale. If it is off, turn the scale so that you can check every possible place for an adjustment. Adjust and go for it!!! Good luck...Lee

My scale does not scale properly?

Does it not start from zero, or is there a problem when adding known weights?

I mean, does it correctly weigh, say a 1kg bag of sugar but not three?

Salter scales weighing more than double the weight

Sounds silly but check the scales for a Kilogram or Pounds switch. its usually under the scales and is a sliding switch. It should tell you on the display if you are weighing in pounds or kilos.

Model 9114 salter scale shows Lo. I have changed the batteries but it still only shows Lo.

I had the same problem and, suspecting that the metal contacts weren't making proper contact with the batteries, I used a long nosed pliers to gently bend all ten contacts towards to the batteries (there are eight small tabs in the battery compartment, and two on the battery cover). If you don't have a long nosed pliers a small screwdriver should do it if you held the fixed part of each set of contacts so it doesn't detach during the process.
Unfortunately, it worked, but only for one weigh, and then it reverted to "Lo". This happened twice, so I telephoned the Salter Customer Service Helpline (01732 360783) who recommended a reset, which is done by removing the batteries, standing on the scale for 20 seconds, and replacing the batteries. That also only worked for one weigh, so they are looking into it further and I'll post the results here, but in the meantime I hope one of the above solutions will work for others.

Keeps showing err. Thinner scale

Tap the scale twice with your foot so 0.0 appears first, then weigh yourself. If you step on the scale before 0.0 appears, the scale will not function properly.

Inaccurate weighing

mcdevito75, Most scales have a zero re-set screw or knob close to the weight indicator, if yours does simply re-set to zero with no weight on the scale, it may be a screw or small knob. If nothing than the scale might have to be replaced.

Scale is not weighing correctly. Weighs correct

The scale must be on a hard, level surface. Make sure there is absolutely no dirt on any of the pivot points. Calibrate it with a KNOWN 25 pound weight.
